  • — Put your faith in yourself, not God (Atheists are everywhere, unfortunately)

Atheists do not hate God. We just tend to think the world could be better without God, better yet without religion in general. What has religion done to humanity as a whole? Start wars, slavery, genocide, etc. Anything done in the name of religion could have been done in regular goodness. Of course, no one is trying to make us believe in God, but in my own personal opinion, acknowledging God to keep a state safe is preposterous. Where was God

“Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.” — ABRAHAM LINCOLN With the recent economic crisis playing a role in bringing America’s Big 3 automakers to their
  • HD & DirecTV Questions

I've got 2 plasmas (Pioneer & LG), but am in the market for a 32" LCD flat panel HD for the MIL, with an eye towards Cyber Monday: Any recommended? Second Question: Have had DirecTV for 12 years now, but live in an area where I cannot get "local" HD. Anyone aware of a program whereby DTV allows you to link HD local, although that local maybe hundreds of miles away? TIA

  • Painful Lessons Americans have to learn (Hurl Alert)

    10/05/2008 7:00:18 AM PDT · by garbageguy · 18 replies · 533+ views
It is hard to remember tougher times than those of today in America. Our economic system, the model for the planet, is crumbling; our energy costs are out of control; we are engaged in two long and expensive wars; our deficits in spending are higher than ever in our history; our homes are more at risk than they have ever been. Are there any lessons to be learned from all of this, so we can avoid ever repeating all that has taken us here?

Anything humorous come to mind? How about GI asking Biden about his "vast experience in foreign policy", getting the answer and turning to Sarah: "So, how many books DID you want banned?"

Ken Hart: Of lipstick, pigs and politics Geez, Louise, can’t this election hurry up and get here already? Would if possible, if everyone agreed, to hold it tomorrow? I really don’t know whether I can handle two more months of this. Two more months of spin, distortion and outright lies.

Haven't had a puppy in years, but am getting one for my boys. Appreciate any reading material or personal thoughts on all the fun stuff: potty training, etc. The dog is a male English Lab, FWIW.

I keep hearing that McCain voted "90% of the time with President Bush", which is all well and good. However, since the Senate usually votes in blocs I wonder how often Obama voted with McCain?
  • America lost it's 'One Day War' on 9/11 (Projectile Hurl Warning)

    06/14/2008 5:20:50 AM PDT · by garbageguy · 14 replies · 89+ views
On 9/11 we were attacked by cowards whose hatred of our values brought them to kill more than 3,000 innocent fathers, sons, wives and daughters. On a single day we were so painfully reminded that freedom is never free. After that day the nations of the world stood with us with an outreach of empathy and a spirit of unity that was unknown before the tragedy of 9/11. While terrorism had been in the world, before 9/11 we had largely been spared its cruelty and injustice. Never again could we have such innocence.
  • Bush 'discovers' what America has known (Barf Alert)

    05/03/2008 4:56:21 AM PDT · by garbageguy · 14 replies · 49+ views
Friday, May 2, 2008 11:20 AM EDT This week President Bush held a press conference to announce that he has discovered that the country (excluding his friends in the oil industry) is struggling with hard economic times. He also discovered in his in-depth investigation, that these hard times are the fault of Democrats. John McCain, running for president under the “Stay the Course” banner, did not speak out to correct any of the president’s remarks. Other Republicans were equally silent as our president argued that if Congress would just authorize oil drilling in ANWR the gas crisis would not be...

The days of Swift Boating are numbered Friday, April 18, 2008 12:25 PM EDT While the Democrats continue to gnaw at each other for the party’s nomination, there are signs, indications even, that some of the recent methods of electoral success in the past are fading as effective tools. Most notably, “Swift Boating,” may finally be on its way to becoming a historical footnote. Swift Boating describes the effective use on well funded false charges against th
  • Long-Term effort in Iraq can't be justified

There has never been an American war without opposition. So let’s recognize that there are differing and valid perspectives that make sense to many of us with different outcomes in mind. In the last 50 years of American policy Republicans have been more associated with national defense than Democrats. They have been perceived as more attuned to protecting the nation from those who might threaten our nation. That perception is changing. In a recent Pew research poll people stated they trusted Democrats more on Iraq than Republicans.
  • Cheney no match for free speech (Hurl Alert)

For centuries, writers, philosophers and statesmen have written about the balance of power between words and arms, usually giving words the final victory. Perhaps that's what has made the Bush administration so very touchy on the subject of free speech. The administration's resident warlord, Vice President Dick Cheney

Bush administration is 8 years of failure Friday, March 14, 2008 11:41 AM EDT As the Bush presidency winds down we can reflect on what never should have been, like the Iraq war and the attack upon civil rights. But equally important is to consider what might have been, had this president met the needs of the nation.

Fighting Democrats miss their objective Friday, March 7, 2008 11:26 AM EST About 70 percent of Democrats polled indicate that they would be happy with either Clinton or Obama as the Democratic candidate this fall. Their policies, though different in some regards, share more in common than they offer in difference. The race then is now more about the experiences and styles of each candidate as their party measures these subjective values to determine the final candidate against Sen. McCain. So why all the messy attacks between the two camps?
  • There's no hiding real truth about Iraq

There’s no hiding real truths about Iraq Friday, February 29, 2008 11:05 AM EST A new Republican theme is emerging this week, from the president to Sen. John McCain to conservative columnists and radio talk show hosts. It is the updated version of one of the president’s finest bi-partisan moments, “cut and run.” Yes, the president who brought the nation together as a divider not a uniter has a new unity theme, that those who want to end the war in Iraq want to “Retreat.” I like it. It has that same divisive edge to it that cut and run...
