Supposedly the host on the black radio station said, with great dry wit, that the charges were unfounded and unfair, that most blacks weren't going to believe it, and that it wouldn't hurt Hank Jr.'s record sales in the black community.

Williams also noted that it was two black women---he called them by name---who comforted his daughters as they lay in the median of the highway awaiting help after the crash. He choked up describing one of the women praying over his apparently dying daughter.

Williams also said the care at the hospital had been excellent, and how grateful he was to everyone there. Real class act in the face of the tragedy combined with charges of racism.

A caller to a local black station made the charge that Williams demanded the hospital have all-white nurses and other personnel around his daughter. Conservative talk show host on the local news-talk station played the tape of the call.

    Driver's certificate program reopening
State had stopped program for legal immigrants after questions arose

    By Associated Press
    March 4, 2006

KNOXVILLE -- The state will resume issuing driving certificates to legal immigrants Monday.

The program was halted last month because state officials said they couldn't be sure the documents were going only to immigrants living in Tennessee.

Driver's certificates will be available only to people who have papers indicating they are in the U.S. legally. The state has indefinitely suspended driver's certificates for illegal immigrants.

"We're not sure if the program will be revised or scratched," said safety department spokeswoman Melissa McDonald. "The review is barely under way and may take several more weeks."

The program that began in 2004 was shut down by state officials after federal investigations found bribes to state license examiners and black-market shuttles bringing out-of-state immigrants to apply for the certificates. The state issued about 51,000 driver's certificates before the program was halted.

Advocates for immigrants say the change could mean more untrained and uninsured immigrant drivers on the road.

"With the certificates, people were prepared, tried to be safe on the roads and had insurance, but we're going to lose that," said Lourdes Perez, director of Hispanic Catholic Ministry in Knoxville. "Just because they won't be able to get a certificate doesn't mean people are not going to drive."

"The First Female President" alone will be enough to a) vastly increase the Dems share of women who currenly vote, and b) bring out enough new women voters, to easily take the presidency. (The media on MTV and CNN and CBS etc will sway millions of existing female voters and bring in millions of females who have not voted previously. It will have this same affect on liberal men, who are who pansies by definition.)

Unless the Pubs co-opt the "first female president" thing. And even then I would still bet on the Hildebeast. Dems are working now to improve the vote rigging and stealing tactics they used in 2000 and 2004.

The new mall which just opened will cause a rise in crime also, I'm afraid.

Yup. Not only that, but Nonconnah---which makes it so convenient to commute to/from Cville---makes it easy for crims from the hood to get to Cville and to get out and back to Memphis. From the site of this home invasion, they could be back on Nonconnah in a minute and back in Memphis in five, blending in with the other trash there.

I wish the Cville mayor would crack down mercilessly in the aftermath of this crime, but I wouldn't count on it. What are we going to need to do? Make all our neighborhoods gated? Or, as so many are doing, move to Fayette County?

Finally, in yesterday's article in the CA the Cville police suggested vaguely that this was not random, as if that was solace for Collierville residents. Yet even today there's nothing to indicate this wasn't a typical home invasion like happens daily in Memphis and which are the wave of the future for Collierville as thugs realize how quickly and easily they can ingress and egress the town. (Hickory Hood---the center of gang activity in Memphis---is five minutes away on Nonconnah.)

One thing overlooked here that I would agree with: young blacks in technical, computer and engineering fields are hit disproportionately hard by Indian and Asian immigrants and outsourcing because companies can meet diversity and minority-hiring guidelines---necessary for gov't contracts and for enormous PC pressure that exisits withing organizations now---by hiring Indians, effectively eliminating the need to ever hire a black person for these jobs.

For the companies, it's a twofer, heck a threefer: they meet diversity guidelines; they save money; and they assuage their white- and American-guilt by hiring those poor dark people suffering around the world due to US greed (you've got to understand how important that is to people educated in our colleges and universities.)

gg188 to George from New England
Agency Blames Speed for Train Derailment
    Associated Press Writer

A commuter train was going almost 60 mph above the speed limit just before it derailed, killing two people and injuring dozens of others, the acting chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board said Sunday.

Mark Rosenker said the Metra train was traveling at 69 mph and should not have been going faster than 10 mph when it switched tracks at a crossover just before jumping the tracks Saturday.

"Sixty-nine miles an hour is very, very fast when you're dealing with a 10-mile-an-hour restriction," Rosenker said.

The speed information came from a preliminary reading of one of the train's three electronic data recorders, popularly known as "black boxes," Rosenker said.

Investigators conducted a three-hour interview Sunday with the train's engineer. The 41-year-old man had been on the job for 45 days after completing Metra's six-month training program, which included at least some training along the route where the derailment occurred. He also had worked for more than five years as a CSX Corp. freight train engineer.

The double-decker commuter train was headed into Chicago from Joliet on Saturday morning with 185 passengers and four crew members when its locomotive and five rail cars jumped the tracks about 5 miles south of downtown.

The train began to derail as it switched tracks, striking a steel bridge just beyond the crossover. Rosenker said that collision damaged at least one rail car and likely contributed to at least one of the fatalities.

The train and the track had just been inspected Friday, said Judy Pardonnet, a spokeswoman for Metra, the commuter rail system that services the Chicago area.

Transportation officials also determined Sunday that train signals were working, meaning the engineer should have known he was approaching a crossover and should have had time to slow the train upon seeing the signals, even if he was traveling 69 mph, Rosenker said.

Extensive damage to the train's undercarriage has prevented investigators from examining its brakes, but it appears the brakes engaged as the train was switching tracks. It was unclear if the engineer applied the brakes or if they engaged automatically, Rosenker said.

The train engineer, three crew members and dispatchers were all tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure, Pardonnet said.

On Monday, the NTSB planned to examine radio transmissions from a control tower and interview a dispatcher and trainee who were working in the tower at the time of the accident.

The train's engineer is taking three days of paid leave for "trauma debriefing." Pardonnet said no decisions have been made about his future employment, although findings from the NTSB investigation could determine whether he keeps his job.

A similar derailment occurred on the same stretch of track in 2003, injuring about 45 people. A preliminary NTSB report found that the train was going almost 70 mph at the location where it was supposed to switch from one track to the other.

Pardonnet said the two derailments may have been just a coincidence. "I don't think it's anything specific to this area, but it's still under investigation," she said.

Jane Cuthbert, 22, of Bourbonnais, died on the train, Pardonnet said. A 30-year-old woman died at a hospital.

They were the first people killed in a Metra derailment since it took over commuter rail services in the region in 1984.

The injured passengers were taken to 15 hospitals, and 15 of them remained hospitalized Sunday, Pardonnet said. She did not have information on their conditions.

Train service on the Rock Island District Line resumed about four hours after the derailment, and the cleanup from the accident could cause short delays during Monday's commute, Pardonnet said.

With Joran van der Sloot in college in Holland now, Twitty decided to move her base of operations back to Birmingham. "But I'll be flying back and forth to Aruba," she says. "We are not giving up on Natalee. Until somebody shows me otherwise, I have to believe my daughter's alive."

During her last two weeks on the island, Twitty says, she had started to fear for her own safety as strangers followed her everywhere she went. One man in particular stood out because of the scars on his face.

"I'd be in the laundromat and he'd show up. I'd go to a restaurant, and a minute or two later, he'd be there. I feel like I need to be more cautious now, but they're not going to stop me from looking for Natalee."
