  • Automated killer robots 'threat to humanity': expert

    AFP via breitbart.com ^ | Feb 27 | Unknown
Increasingly autonomous, gun-totting robots developed for warfare could easily fall into the hands of terrorists and may one day unleash a robot arms race, a top expert on artificial intelligence told AFP. "They pose a threat to humanity," said University of Sheffield professor Noel Sharkey ahead of a keynote address Wednesday before Britain's Royal United Services Institute. Intelligent machines deployed on battlefields around the world -- from mobile grenade launchers to rocket-firing drones -- can already identify and lock onto targets without human help. There are more than 4,000 US military robots on the ground in Iraq, as well as...

Decades of files that the Boy Scouts of America compiled on sexual abuse allegations can be used in a lawsuit claiming the organization was ineffective at preventing abuse, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday. About 1,000 files, with names redacted, have been given to the lawyers for three men who say their scoutmaster abused them from 1971 to 1983 when they were Boy Scouts. The files are sealed by court order for now but could be made public at trial, plaintiff's attorney Tim Kosnoff said. The files include court records and news accounts, as well as rumors and tips from...

NEW YORK -- A Russian tennis player and French Open winner cannot stop a New York photographer from distributing topless pictures taken of her during a magazine photo session in the summer of 2002, a federal judge says. Anastasia Myskina was 20 years old when the photographs were taken by Mark Seliger, according to facts outlined in a written decision by U.S. District Judge Michael Mukasey in Manhattan.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- A pig farmer, who if convicted could become Canada's most notorious serial killer, was charged Wednesday with 12 new counts of first-degree murder. The new charges come on top of the 15 charges Robert Pickton already faces in the disappearance of more than 60 women, mainly prostitutes who vanished from the seedy Downtown Eastside neighborhood of Vancouver. The remains of at least 31 women were found at Pickton's farm about 15 miles (25 kilometers) from the heart of Vancouver. The 55-year-old single man lived with his brother and sister on the farm left to them...

  • Kerry War Diary Exposes Purple Heart Hoax

    Greg Garrison Show | Ignatz
Presidential hopeful John Kerry has based his campaign bid for the US Presidency on his Vietnam war-hero status and his three Purple Hearts. On the Garrison Show (WNDE, Indianapolis) this morning, a guest announced that soon-to-be-released excerpts from a diary kept by Kerry will shed doubt on his first Purple Heart. Apparently, Kerry notes in the diary that he did not come under actual enemy fire until days after being awarded the medal. The diary was made available to a left-wing journalist named Cockburn who was apparently more angered by Kerry's participation in various atrocities in Vietnam than by what the diary...

A lesbian paedophile who posed as a teenage boy to begin a relationship with a 12-year-old girl she had met on school playing fields was today convicted of indecently assaulting the child. Kelly Trueman, 23, reinvented herself as 16-year-old Jake and concocted a string of lies about her former life to befriend a group of youngsters in Ripley, Derbyshire. Derby Crown Court heard that the young victim believed she had embarked on her first relationship when she met the supposed teenage boy last summer. Jurors were told the pair regularly kissed and that Trueman later touched the girl's breasts and...

Ok, fellow Freepers. I am currently involved in a "discussion" with the Libs in my office over the War in Iraq. Of course, according to them, Bush lied about the reasons for going to war. I know there are news articles describing the evidence of WMD's that have been found in Iraq, as well as proof of Saddam's complicty in 9/11. Can you all help me find them? I tried a FR Search for "WMD" and found nothing! Obviously, there ahve been articles with "WMD" in the title..apparently I don't know how to search here at FR.Small wonder Appy Pappy...
  • Hey Freeper lawyers/attorneys: What is Sedition?

Can any lawyers/attorneys on FreeRepublic answer a few questions? What legally constitutes sedition? Who can make an accusation or bring charges of sedition? What legally constitutes treason? Who can make an accusation or bring charges of sedition? Are there other charges or lawsuits that could be filed by ordinary citizens against the likes of Peter Arnett and Nicholas De Genova? What about a class-action suit by as many Freepers as are willing to sign on? Would any of you be willing to take on any of these cases if I could raise the money?

I am debating an idiot liberal/socialist who is still whining that Bush stole the election in 2000. You know, the usual "he was appointed by the Supreme Court, not elected" crapola. Once I had provided the facts concerning the Supreme Court voting, he changed his tactic to election fraud in Florida. *sigh* Can any resourceful Freepers help me find links to news and magazine articles concerning the LACK of election fraud, and the illegitimicy of the Civil rights Commission vis-a-vis election 2000? I know it's old hat around here, but I really need to put this idiot in his place....

To the Editor: Spectator, now for the second time in less than a year, has succeeded to quote me in a remarkably decontextualized and inflammatory manner. In Margaret Hunt Gram's report on the faculty teach-in against the war in Iraq (March 27, 2003), I am quoted as wishing for a million Mogadishus but with no indication whatsoever of the perspective that framed that remark. It is hardly surprising, therefore, that your Staff Editorial in the same issue, denouncing the teach-in for "dogmatism," situates me in particular as the premier example of an academic "launching tirades against anything and everything American."...

I don't know if this is the corrct place for this post, but "News" is part of the forum title. Sorry if I offend. Where are todays live news feeds over the internet? Skynews can no longer even recognize the request from my browser/Windows Media Player. If MSNBC and FOXNEWS have live feeds, the URLS are well-hidden. I'm cubicle-bound, so these live feeds across the internet are my only way of receiving up-to-the-minute news from the war. Thanks in advance.

Stem Cell Research: Facts vs. Myths Phil Brennan Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001 In my work as sacristan at St. Joan of Arc Church in Boca Raton, Fla., I see several young men at one or another of our Sunday liturgies who suffer from serious paralytic disabilities. Two of them are hopelessly paralyzed, slumped in wheel chairs, tended by loving mothers and fathers. Both are so badly crippled they can barely lift their heads. Their parents sit beside them, ready to wipe their mouths as the boys drool uncontrollably. You have to be some kind of a monster not to be ...
