Two Minutes of Silence is still one of my favorite renderings of remembrance of that day. The sales of this painting are still supporting Fire and Police stations around the country.
Cannibals had boiled and eaten three missionaries. Later, they came down with horrible cramps. The witch doctor asked them what they had eaten. "Missionaries," they replied.
"How did you prepare them?" he asked. "Boiled them with some nice taro root," they said.
The witch doctor then asked to see the clothes of the missionaries. When he spied brown tunics with hoods he exclaimed, "Here's the problem! You boiled them, but these were Friars!"
So, after all these years of accusation from the Left, it's really Canada that is the Imperialist Expansionist country. Must be all those hippies that tucked tail and moved there, aggravatin' the funny-gene pool and getting the Canucks all in a serious state of coveteousness.
The Sacraments are referred to as outward signs of inward grace. Thus, communion in the wafer, the ring of marriage, the ashes of repentance, all speak to the—if not exactly “magical”— transcendent and effable desires of fellowship, companionship, and forgiveness.
