4 years ago, this was seen as a problem. Now it’s an opportunity. For team us? Really?!

Do you always label those whom disagree with you as, “being on drugs?”

“If he were a liberal, he’d probably violate the split loyalty thing.....so that would be totally different. However, your Canadian passport argument is simply pathetic, absurd, and insulting.”

What’s pathetic or absurd about the argument that the American president ought to be born in America?

And no, I’m not of the opinion that ‘only liberals’ can have divided loyalties. Is that really the standard now, “being a conservative” is enough? That is a very broad, and open to all kinds of abuse.

Well, I disgree sir. I think the office is larger than any one man, be it Cruz or Washington. I love the man and I understand very well why you want him as President.

I am sorry, but I cannot, in good conscience, support Cruz as president. There are many fine patriots in this nation who would qualify and would be eligible.

I think you are making a mistake. We are a year out of the midterms and two years out from 2016. Why announce this now? Why push your chips in for something that may never happen and if it does, won’t really be relevant for 2 years?

I confess, I don’t understand it, JR. Why this, why now?

“Millions of natural born Americans hold Canadian passports. So what?”

    What difference does it make???

Wouldn’t accusing another Freeper of being on drugs be considered a ‘malicious lie’?

“He was a dual citizen at birth.”

Cruz had to reside in America in order to keep his American citizenship. This is not true of natural born citizens. He is a Canadian citizen as well as an American citizen. He would be eligible for Cuban citizenship (through his father), at the time of his birth.

Canadian citizens are eligible for a Canadian passport. Cruz is, and has always been a Canadian citizen. This is different from a natural born citizen - born in America who would not be considered a dual citizen.

I’m sorry that facts are considered to be lies. These are all factual statements. I agree that Cruz is a fantastic senator. I want him to stay in the senate and help us take the senate over.

“Why are you even a FReeper?”

I’m a Freeper because I am a conservative and I believe that FR stands up for principled conservativism.

I disagree with you here, JR. I think you’re making a mistake. I understand your desire for Ted as President. All too well. I think he’s a fantastic man, but I think that the principle is larger than any one man.

I remember some of what Washington himself said about the office - where some were saying that Washington should serve as long as he was alive. Then Washington himself stepped in and said - “the office is greater than any one man”. We must not and can not afford to set aside the principles of the constitution even for one man, no matter how great the man might be.

“If you don’t like what we stand for”

What happens when those principles change? Am I supposed to bail or fight for the same principles that FR has always stood behind? What would you do if you sincerely believed that FR was leaving behind what they stood for? Would you stand and fight for these principles, or would you go?

“IF Cruz runs and IF he’s the strongest conservative running (which no doubt he will be, look up his record) he will have my support 100%!!”

My disagreement has nothing to do with the man or his policies. He’s my Senator. I think he’s a fantastic senator. It has everything to do with the office of the presidency and the principles behind it. I believe Americans should be represented by someone who is born in America.

“And I’m not going to allow the crap that happened during the last two presidential cycles to happen again. RINO supporters can go straight to hell as far as I’m concerned along with any “conservative” who supports amnesty.”

Would you label someone who agreed with the principle that the office of the presidency ought to be reserved for someone born in America a RINO?

“See if you can find the Founders’ remedy for despotic government.”

I do. One of the checks is requiring the president to be born here. Not elsewhere. There are good reasons for this.

“I hope Ted runs, and I hope he makes the decision early and that other conservatives get behind him and we stop the tearing down and splitting up.”

I hope a candidate who is eligible runs and we can all get behind him. Last time, IIRC - everyone was upset that Palin didn’t run and then rather than voting for the most conservative candidate on the ballot decided to hold out. It was a disappointment.

We needed unity and we had a candidate who proved he could beat Romney. Too little too late. Now we’re supposed to get behind a fantastic conservative senator who happens to be ineligible. We lose on that issue and lose the presidency and then what do we get for it?

“Agreed. Born in another country to parents who are not both citizens? How could that be considered natural born? So if a Saudi prince takes an American wife and has children born in Saudi Arabia, they are “natural born” Americans? That sounds like complete nonsense to me.”

Yes, this is the exact standard that apparently is ‘good enough’. You share my precise concerns.

Why have a citizen at all? Why have a residency requirement? Because the constitution says so?

We have been told that ‘slippery slope is a fallacy. I recall, less than 10 years ago being told that sex education for kindergartners was a myth. Now, today, it is a reality. We open the doors to this - we’ll see the floodgates opened. Where Americans are governed not by one of their own but by a foreigner who’s never set foot in America. We had that once before - in King George.

“the libs can get away with this crap by electing Obama, then I’m all for fighting to get Cruz elected”

I thought we were conservatives and not liberals. Guess I thought wrong. Liberals justify it because they believe that power trumps principles. Doing the right thing - in the end - will benefit us far more.

Here’s what I see happening. RINOs will entice Cruz to run. Then they backstab him during his presidential campaign. Cruz loses - Liberals install a D in his seat. We lose the Senate, House and the presidency.

    How does this help us?

He’s a Canadian citizen, was born in Canada. Has a Canadian passport.

If he were a liberal, you’d consider him ineligible.

Again - it would be one thing if this were true. But there’s no evidence whatsoever that this ‘Mary Ann Collins’, is anything more than a pseudonym.

“I have a feeling that if he was a liberal Democrat, many here would be banging the, “He is not eligible” drum.”

Indeed. I share the exact same opinion. It’s ok because it’s Cruz. No, it’s not ok.
