Paint splattered on floors. Spray-painted messages and screeds covering walls. Furniture moved and overturned. Security cameras disabled. Fire extinguishers missing and entrances blocked by stacks of chairs. “We’ve got our work cut out for us,” a facilities manager at Portland State University said Thursday as he examined the destruction left behind after a three-day occupation by pro-Palestinian protesters in Millar Library.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Monday asked a judge to impose a limited gag order on former President Donald Trump, who is charged in New York with falsifying business records related to hush money he paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. BREAK In a series of motions filed Monday, prosecutors also asked the judge to bar the defense from introducing evidence or argument about Cohen's credibility. Cohen was accused of committing perjury when he testified in October in Trump's civil fraud trial.

FONT SIZE: The Biden administration is set to back a plan that would crush the coal industry at the upcoming United Nations (UN) climate summit, Reuters reported on Tuesday. The U.S. will reportedly support a French plan to get the countries of the world to ban private financing of coal-fired power plants during the upcoming UN conference, known as COP28, according to Reuters. The plan is likely to drive a rift between countries like the U.S. and France and those like China and India, which are reliant on coal to feed their economies cheap and reliable electricity. The proposed plan...

The blaze at a Drexel University dorm began around 11 p.m. Tuesday in Race Hall, according to campus police. Police found that decorations on the student’s door were “intentionally” set on fire. The flames were “quickly extinguished” by the Philadelphia Fire Department. The school is investigating if bias or discrimination was involved, according to a letter from University President John Fry. “Unfortunately, we were made aware of a distressing situation that included destruction inside one of our residence halls,” he wrote. “Thankfully, no one was injured. We are investigating to determine if bias, discrimination, or hate, which we do not...

The conditions while traveling with passenger airlines have seemingly been getting worse year after year. While unruly passengers have been partly stifled by harsher enforcement and punishments, there are plenty of legitimate grievances to get angry about. A pair of passengers were escorted off of a recent Air Canada flight for refusing to sit in vomit-stained seats.

In secret audio obtained by The Tennessee Star, radical leftists who plan to “protest” the upcoming August special session of the General Assembly say they have armed security at the ready. “Also, like there are groups in Nashville who do this – keep in mind – who like, if at any point you need armed security at a protest, there are people who we trust as a community to show up and do that,” said an organizer of the Saturday meeting. The Star obtained the audio from an inside source who attended the meeting, and will be releasing it in...

I am facing a large bill in a few months for a prescription drug that my doctor says I need. My insurance is currently charging me $131 per 3 months. However, the drug costs the insurance company nearly $2,000 per 3 months. In July this charge will push me into the Medicare Part D "donut hole" gap, and I will have to pay nearly $500/3 month. I cannot afford that. I am thinking my best bet for lower prices is a reputable source outside the USA, such as a pharmacy in Canada, such as Claymans Pharmacy. Does anyone have experience...

Amazon.com ...... is offering U.S. customers $10 to pick up a purchase rather than have it shipped to a home address, as the e-commerce giant joins other retailers in racing to slash costs for home delivery and returns amid slack consumer demand. ........................................................................................................................ "We offer customers a variety of ways to get their packages, inclusive of delivery and pickup options. The $10 Amazon Pickup promotion isn't new," the company said in a statement. Amazon did not say for how long this or similar pickup promotions have been in use.

Nike co-founder Phil Knight has donated $1 million to elect Republican Oregon gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan in an increasingly tight race against Democrat Tina Kotek. Knight’s donation to Drazan’s campaign comes after he donated $3.75 million to Independent candidate Betsy Johnson, signaling his strong dislike for Tina Kotek. Republican strategist Rebecca Tweed told KGW Knight’s donation said the two donations are not meant as an endorsement of either candidate but rather an attack against the Democrat candidate. “It’s not really $1 million toward Drazan or $3.75 (million) towards Betsy. It’s $4.75 (million) against Tina Kotek,” Tweed told the outlet. “Each...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A dozen children and two adults were served floor sealant instead of milk at a day care summer program at an Alaska elementary school after containers were apparently mixed up, the school district superintendent said Wednesday. Several students complained of burning sensations in their mouth and throats, and at least one child was treated at a hospital after the Tuesday morning incident in Juneau, Superintendent Bridget Weiss said.
  • New Windows Laptop - How to Setup Parental Controls? (Vanity)

Sorry for the link back to the Free Republic home page. I could not figure out how to post this without a source link. My 8-year old grand-niece's mother sent her a new HP laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed, and asked me to set it up. I have used Apple products exclusively at home, and always had dedicated IT people at work. I feel like a complete neophyte with Windows 10 stuff. I read online that the Windows parental controls are not good, and I should use third party software. Is that true? If so, what software do you-all recommend?...

I took my nephew, Devon, to the hospital Sunday night, and we found that he has a serious case of Covid lung (Dr's words). He had been resting as comfortably as can be expected. Alert, responsive and aware of what was happening. He was using a BIPAP machine with a full face mask, and doing better. Until this morning. He apparently was struggling to breath more, so the Dr intubated him, and he is now has a ventilator breathing for him. I am praying that this will oxygenate his body sufficiently while it fights off the infection. Does anyone know...

In a major but likely controversial victory for free speech, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit overturned the conviction of a retired Air Force colonel for using a racial epithet at the shoe store on the Marine base at Quantico, Virginia. Jules A. Bartow, who is white, was arrested after a bizarre and disgraceful exchange with an employee, including the use of the “n word” with the African American woman. The highly offensive and repugnant language of Bartow was denounced by the court, but the unanimous panel still reversed T.S. Ellis III, Senior District Judge of...

A volcano has erupted in Iceland about 40km (25 miles) from the capital Reykjavik, the Icelandic meteorological office has said, as a red cloud lit up the night sky and a no-fly zone was established in the area. “Volcanic eruption has begun in Fagradalsfjall,” it said in a tweet on Friday night, referring to a mountain located about 30km south-west of the capital. Police and coastguard officials raced to the scene late on Friday and the public has been advised to stay away from the area.

A niece announced yesterday that she intends to be a doctor, and has chosen George Fox University (GFU) for her Pre-Med. Over the past five years she has gone from wanting to be a zoo keeper, to a nurse, to an ER nurse and now a doctor. Does anyone know anything about George Fox U.? I know that GFU is an expensive, private, christian school, but that's about it. The University was founded as a Quaker college, but today is not so choosy. However, they are still a conservative christian school. For instance, in 2014 they sought and received a...

We've all wanted to tell a jogger to put his shirt back on, but what happened recently in suburban Boston is a little different. Westwood High track coach Tom Davis was fired last week because one of his runners decided to take his shirt off during training on a 75-degree day. This wasn't a girl, by the way. It was a boy. -snip- That wasn't the end of it. Davis was let go on the spot, in front of his team, and eventually escorted off school property. "The kids on my team, it was terrible," Davis told the TV station....
