Past what...who thinks what...now?

I thought the Comments tab (http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/posts:news-forum/) should show the title of the thread with just a few lines excerpted from the body. However, I see some with far too many excerpted lines. The effect is that it's difficult to browse the Comments easily, since one message may eat up an enormous amount of screen space. BTW, I do have enough screen space (running at 1680x1050). Before the recent Free Republic makeover, I never had this problem. Anyone know a solution?
