COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Asia Vanderwege said she never saw the signs that said "No Soliciting" and "Beware of the Dog." The 14-year-old was attacked by two dogs on Thursday when she went to a home selling candy. "I rang the doorbell and heard dogs barking," said Vanderwege. "I stepped back a little bit and then they burst through the screen door and came at me. Then they were biting me." Happy Saturday Freepers! I found a really spiffy old lidded beer stein at Goodwill, and it has an inscription on the pewter lid; I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the last line means? I'm assuming it's military, it looks like the type of thing you give your CO when he changes units. Google only turned up one page, and it's all in German. The inscription says: Maj D. Hartin 1973-1976 GenFISichhBw

A Texas state lawmaker has introduced measures which would exclude illegal immigrants from essentially every walk of life in the state, 1200 WOAI news reports. State Representative Leo Berman (R-Tyler) says his measures would restrict illegal immigrants from participating in many aspects of society or, in many cases, from making a living in the state, making it less likely that illegals will flock to Texas. One of Berman's measures would prevent people who are in this country illegally from filing lawsuits or other claims in Texas courts. "If he is in the United States illegally, he shouldn't have access to...

The holiday season is a good time to ponder the lesson of "A Christmas Carol," the heartwarming classic story by the beloved dead English writer Charles Dickens. The story begins on Christmas Eve with mean old miser Ebenezer Scrooge being mean to his lowly clerk, Bob Cratchit, who is a good and humble man despite having a last name that sounds like an intestinal mishap, as in "The dog made cratchit on the rug." Scrooge then goes home, and during the night he is visited by a series of ghosts, including the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas...

He was on a dead run with his tail out behind him. He looked huge,” said Jane Schledewitz. “We were head-to-head. There was nothing between us but air.” The cougar and Griz the dog zipped past Schledewitz and vanished around the corner of the farmhouse. But the dog's owner, who wasn't there when the incident took place, disagreed. "My dog is always inside, so I don't know the details of how she ended up outside. I was at work all day."
