Huma Abedin writes in her forthcoming book that a U.S. senator sexually assaulted her in her 20s, kissing her unprompted and forcing his tongue in her mouth as the two conversed in his apartment. The longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, now 45, detailed the incident in her memoir Both/And: A Life in Many Words, set to be published next week, according to an excerpt obtained by the Guardian. Abedin withheld details of the senator’s identity, including his party affiliation, whether he is still in Congress, and which state he represented.

Two fourth year students from Coláiste Choilm in Cork have been named as the winners of the 56th BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition. A man was blasted to death on Tuesday afternoon at the family home of a pal murdered last week. Hamid Sanambar, in his 40s, and originally from Iran but living in Ireland for several years, was blasted in the head by a gunman. Irish authorities are investigating if a former member of the Defence Forces (Army) has been arrested in Syria for alleged membership of Islamic State. The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that an Irish citizen is being detained in Syria. Ireland will take back extremists who have travelled to fight with terrorist groups like Isil, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said. The Criminal Law Defence and the Dwelling Act 2011 recognises the constitutional position of a person's home and allows for a person to use reasonable force in defending the home. The aim is to protect people in their dwelling from assault and to protect their property. The new Act provides that a person is not under an obligation to retreat from their home when there is an intruder. The owner of a dwelling who uses force cannot be sued for damages by a burglar and will not be guilty of an offence.

THE MINISTER of State for Finance Brian Hayes has said the department had been involved in contingency plans in case there was a break-up of the euro or the establishment of a two-tier euro. Presidential candidate Martin McGuinness was confronted during his canvass in Athlone this afternoon by the son of a member of the Irish Army who was killed in an incident after the kidnap of Don Tidey in Ballinamore in 1983.
