The longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, now 45, detailed the incident in her memoir Both/And: A Life in Many Words, set to be published next week, according to an excerpt obtained by the Guardian. Abedin withheld details of the senator’s identity, including his party affiliation, whether he is still in Congress, and which state he represented.

Credit to Louise Rosengrave, writing in The Journal, for this horrifying story: “A 67-YEAR-OLD cancer patient discharged herself from hospital due to overcrowding and died four days later, an inquest heard. Elizabeth Leavy from Montpellier Road, Dublin 7 was left waiting on a hospital trolley for six hours. “She was left in the hallway beside the bins. She was afraid, in pain, uncomfortable and she was hallucinating. She couldn’t stick it,” the woman’s daughter Joy Leavy said.” Read the whole thing. It’s not hard to sympathise with the woman’s decision. Anyone who has ever spent time in an Irish hospital,...

  • Airstrip One: The Slow Death of Freedom in the UK

What is happening in the UK is terrifying. No, I’m not talking about Brexit, the event that has gripped news media and turned it into a frenzy. I’m referring to far more important matters. Matters that, if left unchecked, will turn the UK into one of the most authoritarian countries in the world. Just one example of this authoritarian trend; soon everyone in the UK will require age verification or the purchase of a special pass from a local retailer or newsagent in order to view pornography online. I say soon since the British government have in the past been...

Four years ago, I wrote about my decision to live as a woman in The New York Times, writing that I had wanted to live “authentically as the woman that I have always been,” and had “effectively traded my white male privilege to become one of America’s most hated minorities.” Three years ago, I decided that I was neither male nor female, but non-binary—and made headlines after an Oregon judge agreed to let me identify as a third sex, not male or female.

Ireland will take back extremists who have travelled to fight with terrorist groups like Isil, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said. While he indicated each case would have to be considered on its own merits, Mr Varadkar said this country shouldn’t expect our citizens “to be somebody else’s problem”. An estimated half-dozen Irish passport holders are believed to be still operating on behalf of Islamic State (Isil) in Syria.

The Criminal Law Defence and the Dwelling Act 2011 recognises the constitutional position of a person's home and allows for a person to use reasonable force in defending the home. The aim is to protect people in their dwelling from assault and to protect their property. The new Act provides that a person is not under an obligation to retreat from their home when there is an intruder. The owner of a dwelling who uses force cannot be sued for damages by a burglar and will not be guilty of an offence.

I don’t normally post stuff like this, but Ben’s story is amazing: PART 1 and PART IIBen had just created these videos a few days ago as it was uploaded on December 18. I haven’t confirmed this, but it’s all over the net right now and also in Kudi’s remarks. Apparently Ben passed away on Christmas night. RIP.

THE MINISTER of State for Finance Brian Hayes has said the department had been involved in contingency plans in case there was a break-up of the euro or the establishment of a two-tier euro. Speaking at a business conference in Dublin, Mr Hayes said that “contingency planning is part and parcel of every government department, particularly the Department of Finance”. Asked what the plans involved, the Minister joked: “It is a bit like someone says in a middle of a war, ‘If I told you that, I’d have to shoot you’.” The October 26th plan to save the euro was...

Presidential candidate Martin McGuinness was confronted during his canvass in Athlone this afternoon by the son of a member of the Irish Army who was killed in an incident after the kidnap of Don Tidey in Ballinamore in 1983. David Kelly, whose 35-year-old father Paddy was shot dead, called on Mr McGuinness to name those responsible. Mr McGuinness denied he knew the names of the IRA members involved in the kidnapping of Mr Tidey.
