SEATTLE -- There are more questions than answers in the case of a suspected international arms dealer caught in Washington state with a stockpile of sniper rifles. Oliver King is an Iranian citizen who, in the past, has been a licensed gun dealer. King appeared in court in Seattle on Wednesday, accused of keeping a stash of guns and ammunition hidden in a storage unit near the U.S.-Canada border. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, King lied to enter the U.S. near Blaine last week. Agents with U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement became suspicious of King when he showed up...

While it's no secret that Hollywood films tend to skew left in general, 'Astro Boy' may be the first animated blockbuster to discuss, if not necessarily endorse, explicit Marxist ideologies (albeit in cute robot form, of course.) In the movie, the aforementioned outcasts, led by Robotsky, form the Robot Revolutionary Front, stenciling their logo on city walls and chanting "Viva La Robotolution" at anyone within earshot. Crude posters of Lenin and Trotsky adorn the threadbare walls of an office in a desolate part of town, and a group of outcast revolutionaries hatch a scheme to overthrow the ruling powers and...

Letter from Washington State Representative Geoff Simpson (Dem) in response to a apology demand for using the term teabagger...... quote Dear Jim "I don't think it's patriotic to fly airplanes into buildings as one of your tea party members recently did. I find your movement to be infected with the same selfish, hate-spawned and dangerous ideas that have plagued civilization from time to time, only to be quelled when appeals to man's more patriotic attributes of selflessness, kindness, compassion and peace have prevailed. I was puzzled by your objection to my recounting the words of my 90 year old decorated...

SEATTLE -- The Kent man who took the city of Seattle and former Mayor Greg Nickels to court over the city's gun ban has won. King County Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer on Friday ruled in favor of Robert C. Warden, declaring the city of Seattle's gun ban to be in direct violation of Washington State's firearm pre-emption law. Last year Warden filed a complaint against Nickels and the city, alleging the city's gun ban defies his constitutional right to bear arms.

OK, my 1040 is filled out and what am I finding? I get back $1732 LESS than I did last year. 2008 Refund - $2632 2009 Refund - $899 Was it because I made more? Nope, I made $2000 less in 2009 than in 2008. How about Mortgage interest? Nope, it was down some but not enough to bring my return down that much. How about that phony tax cut Obama gave us. Yes that’s it. Those aware of the gimmick warned us that it was just a tax deferment, so be expected to pay it back come tax time....

In keeping with Washington ritual, nearly two dozen guests were invited to fill the first lady's box during the State of the Union address Wednesday night -- many of them as representatives of the president's agenda, Among them -- Don Karner of Phoenix, whose electric transportation engineering company received $99 million from the economic stimulus package, which helped him create at least 50 permanent clean-energy jobs and save others.

The airline bomber was an al-Qaida-linked terrorist. So why is Obama mincing words? "Isolated extremist" was the label President Barack Obama initially slapped on the Nigerian Muslim who flew into Detroit on Christmas Day, burning himself in a botched attempt to take down the plane with explosives sewn into his underwear. If anyone seems isolated here, it is the U.S. president himself. For three days after the terrorist attack, Obama carried on with his Hawaii holiday, "monitoring" the situation while leaving his staff to deal with the public. When Obama finally appeared on Monday to make a statement, he gave...

EATONVILLE, Wash. -- A Pierce County sheriff's deputy and a sergeant were seriously wounded in a shooting near Eatonville on Monday night. Sheriff spokesman Ed Troyer said the two were responding to a domestic violence call at a cabin in the 34300 block of Tanwax Court East at the time. Investigators said a man, his brother and his 15-year-old daughter were at the cabin when some sort of trouble broke out, prompting the call. "When our two deputies arrived, they were invited in to the house by one of the brothers," Troyer said. Investigators said a man, his brother and...

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Gov. Chris Gregoire said the state won't accept any more parolees from Arkansas until she's assured of a better system for sending them back. "If Arkansas doesn't like it, then sue me," she said. "You know, I don't care. My job is to protect the people of the State of Washington first and foremost." http://www.komonews.com/news/local/78347152.html

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A court-ordered psychological evaluation of Maurice Clemmons in October found that he was a risk to public safety, but that there was insufficient reason to commit the man who allegedly went on to kill four Lakewood police officers over the weekend. Clemmons told the psychologists he hallucinated about "people drinking blood and people eating babies, and lawless on the street, like people were cannibals." He went on to say he had "no faith in the justice system" and that he thought he was being "maliciously persecuted because I'm black and they believe the police." Clemmons was...

A SWAT team and police negotiators surrounded a Leschi home in Seattle where the man sought for questioning in the Lakewood police shooting may be hiding. Police responded to the home at East Yesler Way and 32nd Avenue South where police stopped a woman who was leaving the home. She told them Maurice Clemmons was on the property and bleeding, according to a law enforcement source. The woman told police that someone had dropped Clemmons off at the home. The source also said police had received tips about two other properties they needed to search, in Queen Anne and Renton....

That little extra bit of money in the form of a larger paycheck tied to the Obama stimulus plan could end up taking a bite out of your federal income-tax refund or even leave you owing taxes, say observers. The stimulus plan lowered federal income-tax withholding rates, which results in more take-home pay but less money going toward taxes. The downside is some taxpayers may end up with not enough taxes being withheld to cover what they owe in 2009. As a result, some taxpayers may need to increase their withholding amount by reducing the number of allowances claimed for...

SEATTLE - The suspect in the shooting death of a Seattle police officer was "a lone domestic terrorist" whose apartment was a virtual arsenal of bomb-making materials and weaponry. (snip) There also is evidence that the suspect, Christopher M. Monfort, 41, of Tukwila may have been planning to escalate his activities in the coming days if he had not been caught. (snip) In addition, there have been reports of loud explosions in the area around Monfort's apartment complex in the past three months. Those blasts may have been experiments by Monfort and may indicate that he planned a larger-scale terrorist...

Washington's official state ship, the venerable Lady Washington, is no longer welcome in California. Despite its 4,442 square feet of sail power, the ship also employs a 60-year-old diesel engine that fails to meet California's air-pollution standards. The 112-foot square-rigger, perhaps best-known as the ship hijacked by Jack Sparrow in the Disney film "Pirates of the Caribbean," normally spends its winters in California waters. Last winter, it hosted more than 70,000 visitors and took more than 7,000 California school kids sailing from California ports. If they didn't run that engine, there wouldn't be a problem," explained Cherie Rainforth, a staffer...
