  • QUB students want Hillary Clinton removed as chancellor

    Daily Mail ^ | 2024-05-07 | Chris Matthews
Students at the Queen's University Belfast have staged a sit-in protest on campus calling for the removal of Hillary Clinton as chancellor. In a statement, the QUB Palestine Assembly said they want to see a democratic election process for the next chancellor. The group is also calling for Queen's to end all ties with universities in Israel, to issue a statement 'condemning Israel's mass killing of Palestinians and deliberate destruction of Gaza's educational infrastructure' and offer sanctuary status to Palestinian academics and students. They have also condemned terminology and some content used in the university's deeply divided societies course around...
  • 50 years after Tim Horton's deadly car crash, we clear up one lingering mystery

Tim Horton loved cars more than he loved coffee, and it cost him his life. By 1973, the 43-year-old four-time Stanley Cup champion and future Hockey Hall of Famer had played 23 seasons in the NHL. Nonetheless, with the new season approaching, Buffalo Sabres general manager Punch Imlach enticed Horton to play an additional year for $150,000 and sweetened the deal with a sporty De Tomaso Ford Pantera. Imlach preyed on Horton’s lifelong weakness for fast cars, and the player couldn’t resist the offer of owning the supercar. Four months later, when Horton perished driving the sports car at breakneck...

On Thursday, NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit premiered an episode in which a white rape victim agonizes over prosecuting her rapist because he's black. In the episode, "Truth Embargo," the rape occurs during a mass smash-n-grab robbery of a high-end store. One of the masked looters spots a shopper in a bathing suit near the dressing room and attacks her. At the hospital, the victim, Natalie (Romina D'Ugo), falsely claims she did not see the rapist because he was wearing a mask. Video store cameras later show he took off his mask before entering the dressing area. Natalie's...

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, CBS and NBC have ignored their announcement of a Justice Department probe into far-left Congresswoman and Squad member Cori Bush (D-MO) on their flagship morning and evening newscasts. The probe, which reportedly concerns using campaign funds to pay her now-husband to be her bodyguard, is a scandal that could be used against her fellow Democrats, so CBS and NBC made sure to bury it. The only segment came on Wednesday’s Good Morning America with a very short, 58-second report on the ABC News program. Co-host and former Clinton official George Stephanopoulos began: “Democratic Congresswoman Cori Bush...

Nova Scotia musician Myles Goodwyn, who stepped down earlier this year as the singer of April Wine, died Sunday. The 75-year-old's death was confirmed by his publicist, Eric Alper. The cause of death is unclear. Goodwyn, who lived in the Halifax area, achieved many feats with April Wine, including selling more than 10 million albums worldwide and receiving 11 Juno nominations. April Wine was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame earlier this year. Goodwyn was also inducted this year into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. He told CBC News earlier this year that the latter induction was his proudest...
  • 50 Years Ago: Opry Legend Stringbean Akeman is Murdered

On this day fifty years ago, November 10th, 1973, Stringbean Akeman frailed his final phrases on a Vega #9 five-string banjo, did his signature hand wave and hat flip one last time, and stepped off the Opry stage and into the history books in what would come to signal a change for the Opry itself, country music as an industry, and even country music as an institution. Before the night was out, Stringbean Akeman and his wife Estelle (Stanfill) were shot by two 23-year old cousins who’d come to know of Stringbean’s habit of keeping large amounts of cash on...

One day after arguing with GOP Rep. Mike Lawler that American media did not rush to repeat Hamas propaganda in the manner of Baghdad Bob on the Gaza hospital explosions, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell joined Friday’s Chris Jansing Reports to claim that The Squad has “been very outspoken” on the issue of Gaza in the aftermath of that event. That’s a funny way of saying "lied." As part of a rambling declaration on how the U.S. finds itself isolated on the issue of the war as a whole, Mitchell explained, “We should also point out that the reaction ever since the...
  • Huckabee Sanders response seen as more divisive, extreme than Biden speech: survey (Laugh or Hurl Alert)

Viewers who watched both speeches found Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s (R) response to President Biden’s State of the Union address to be more extreme and divisive than the president’s address to the nation, according to new polling. A 58 percent majority of people who watched both speeches found Sanders’s follow-up to Biden to be extreme, compared to 47 percent who found Biden’s address to be extreme, according to a new Politico-Morning Consult poll. And 59 percent of people who watched both found Sanders to be divisive, with 50 percent of respondents viewing Biden’s speech that way.

On Sunday night, President Joe Biden sat down for an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes anchor Scott Pelley. From the very start, it was clear why Biden chose Pelley to conduct his first sit-down interview in months. Right out of the gate and until the last minute, Pelley gushed and sucked up to Biden in embarrassing fashion. “Summer was going so well for the President, the White House threw a party last week with a concert by James Taylor. Mr. Biden's streak began in June when he signed a bipartisan gun safety law,” Pelley said with stars in his eyes...

On Thursday afternoon, White House reporters rallied from the embarrassing effort many gave the day prior in lobbying softballs to inept Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and showed skepticism that President Biden’s Thursday night address on how the American right poses a threat to the country wouldn’t be political. Reuters’s Jeff Mason was one of those reporters who redeemed himself, starting with a short, Doocy-like question: “Is tonight a political speech?” Jean-Pierre sowed her fate when she immediately show back: “No. It’s not a political speech. This is an opportunity — again for the President to directly have a conversation with...

On Wednesday, NBC News reported that Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is privately flustered and worried about the effectiveness of Democratic attacks on him as a wealthy elitist who uses his political office to enrich himself. This comes as Democratic Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes mounts a campaign to unseat him in the midterms — and as the most recent poll from Marquette University shows Barnes leading by 7 points with likely voters.

Barely minutes into the 94th annual Academy Awards on ABC, the ceremony went obnoxiously woke. The Oscars three unfunny hosts - Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall - introduced the show with a "joke" about the long-debunked "equal pay gap," then attacked white women using a Black Lives Matter (BLM) talking point.

President Joe Biden's approval rating has dipped heading into the second month of 2022, after making some modest gains in the new year. The president enjoyed a bump in popularity in January, with his approval rating rising to 43.5 percent, but the figure now stands at around 41.8 percent, according to poll tracker FiveThirtyEight. The Biden administration has just entered its second year and in November the Democrats will face crucial midterm elections that will put the spotlight firmly on the president's agenda.

"Squad" queen Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., suggested Friday that Republican critics are motivated by "sexual frustrations" due to the fact that "they can't date" the left-wing congresswoman. The New York Democrat made the claim in response to online criticism she faced after reports revealed she had traveled to Miami with her boyfriend before the new year. "If Republicans are mad they can’t date me they can just say that instead of projecting their sexual frustrations onto my boyfriend’s feet," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Friday in response to former Trump campaign advisor Steve Cortes, who had taken a shot at her boyfriend's...
