It’s been a year since Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States, the first African-American to hold the nation’s highest office. It’s been a year of highs and lows, from winning the Nobel Peace Prize to adding trillions of dollars to the national debt by enacting massive government spending programs – while continuing to battle for a nearly $1 trillion overhaul of the nation’s health care system. His job approval rating also have gone from high to low, down nearly 20 points since taking office. How would you grade President Obama’s first year in office?

Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Taj Mahal are candidates for new seven wonders of the world ELIANE ENGELER AND ALEXANDER G. HIGGINS GENEVA, Switzerland (AP) - A global competition to name the new seven wonders of the world is attracting widespread interest, with more than 20 million people voting so far, organizers say. The Egyptian pyramids are the only surviving structures from the original list of seven architectural marvels. I found myself thinking about a question that might cause a swing voter to think through his/vote. Simply put: Who Would Osama Bin Laden Want for President? I would like to see signs, bumper stickers, posters, etc., etc. It is important that is doesn't come across as Gotcha or mean-spirited. The purpose of such a question is to make a person who is willing to think, do so. The goal is to instill pondering, not anger, shame or intimidation. It is actually a very fair question.

  • Are we too quick to assume this is over??

I awoke this morning and was watching the tv and began to notice that the general atmosphere is not like a country going to war but a community which has just survived a tornado or hurricane. The belief is that the storm is over and it is time to pick up the pieces and start over. Guess again. During my tenure at the CDC's Emergency Response Coordinating Group I was privy to a study of terrorist attack. So many scenarios included biologics. If they were released yesterday, the effects would begin to be noticed tomorrow. A pick-up truck driving down ...

I am not qualified to speak on any of this, so I will. I have reached the conclusion that this action has been in the works for years, and maybe a decade. This is not a bunch of nickel-dime terrorist who woke up one day and decide to raise a little hell. People were put in place, policies were altered, huge amounts of money was raised, people in both high and low places have been making things happen for a long time and this morning was just the end (maybe) result. Were rogue pilots planted? Were flight crew personnel corrupted? ...

The Courier Mail: Judge warns of baby culling Judge warns of baby culling Malcolm Cole 25jun01 HIGH Court judge Michael Kirby has raised the spectre of the unchecked elimination of children with genetic defects unless new laws were drawn up to cover the genetic screening of unborn babies. Justice Kirby also warned that some parents might choose to abort fetuses carrying genes for conditions such as anaemia, baldness or – if it proved to be genetically determined – homosexuality, because they considered those traits to be disabilities. Speaking in Brisbane last night, he said if the Federal Government failed ...

Sent to me by a Marine | 3/3/2001 | Self
Never underestimate the subtleness of a snuffie, right? I noticed something very funny this morning. CNN showed George W. leaving HM-1. The marine at the front step saluted, GW returned it, and as he walked away, the marine executed a right face to stand facing GW's back...something that was missing in eight years of the Clinton presidency. This traditional Marine Corps mark of respect was rendered to the new president. That one goes back to the days in the rigging, when the marine orderly to the ship's captain always faced him, no matter his direction of movement, to be ready ...

http://www.jewishworldreview.com -- "THIS IS A SOLEMN and most momentous occasion," President Reagan began his first inaugural address 20 years ago next January, "and yet, in the history of our Nation, it is a commonplace occurrence. The orderly transfer of authority as called for in the Constitution routinely takes place as it has for almost two centuries and few of us stop to think how unique we really are. In the eyes of many in the world, this every-four-year ceremony we accept as normal is nothing less than a miracle." A bit less eloquently but with the authenticity of experience, ...

FICTION: Al Gore recently claimed that his mother-in-law pays more than $100.00 for the arthritis medicine Lodine; and he claims that his dog takes the same medicine for $37.00, claiming "This is wrong!"
