Interesting. I was just polled by a national firm and given a somewhat extensive poll about my reaction if Ted Cruz un-suspended his campaign. Someone thinks it’s an idea worth exploring. At least, enough to run a poll on.
  • Vanity: "Being There" The movie--Have you watched it since Chauncey Gardener Obama was elected?

Just finished watching "Being There" with Peter Sellers. My DH and I couldn't stop laughing at how the movie parallels aspects of our current occupant in the White House. From the missing information on Chauncey's mysterious past, the fawning press who hangs on this simpleton's every word, and the last scene which shows Chauncy walking on water---the story sounded all too familiar. We hadn't watched the movie for years but it has a whole new significance now. My DH who has never spent one minute here at FR (but hears about all of you endlessly)asked me what I thought the...

Iowa Reaction To Daschle's Appearance Former Senator Tom Daschle hasn't ruled out a run for the White House in 2008, and this weekend he gave a key speech in an important state. Daschle was the featured speaker at an event for Iowa democrats, the state whose caucuses kick off the presidential campaign. Former Senator Tom Daschle told Iowa democrats the Bush presidency is effectively over, and it's time for his party to take back the country. If Daschle decides to run for president himself, he'll make many more trips to Iowa, and democrats there say so far he's been well...

Oglala order could prevent GOP poll watching on Pine Ridge CARSON WALKER Associated Press SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A tribal judge filed an order Friday that, if upheld, may prevent South Dakota Republican Party workers from observing Tuesday's voting on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The Four Directions Committee, which bills itself as a nonpartisan group trying to increase American Indian voting, was granted the temporary restraining order against the South Dakota Republican Party and Ryan Knutson. Oglala Sioux Tribe Judge Marina Fast Horse signed the order without telling them about it ahead of time. In the document, Four Directions...
  • Daschle Uses Wind Cave as a Bargaining Chip

Wind Cave used as bargaining chip? 9/24/2004 4:03:05 PM Debra Jensen & Shad Olson Earlier this year, Senator Tom Daschle convinced an independent challenger to drop out of the race for US Senate, but what did Daschle promise in return? A report published in the Lakota Journal newspaper says control and ownership of Wind Cave National Park were used as a bargaining chip in convincing publisher Tim Giago to leave the Senate race. The former newspaper publisher announced last year he would run against Daschle as an independent, but later ended his campaign after meeting with Daschle face to face...
  • Veterans Group Supporting Daschle Calls for Resignation of South Dakota GOP Chairman

A group of South Dakota veterans wants the state republican party chairman to resign. The military members support Senate democratic candidate Tom Daschle. They're upset over a fundraising letter written by state GOP chairman Randy Frederick that they say accuses Daschle of treason. Political fundraising letters often use language meant to fire up supporters, in the hope that they'll then open up their checkbooks to contribute to campaigns. But a group of veterans say a letter written in support of senate candidate John Thune goes too far. "Tired of Tom?," the letter asks out of state donors. Then send a...

Giago Drops Out Of Senate Race The South Dakota Senate contest is back to a two-man race. After briefly pursuing running as an independent, the Washington Post is reporting Native American activist Tim Giago is dropping out of the race. Giago is quoted as saying he will now throw his support behind democratic incumbent Senator Tom Daschle. After meeting with Daschle over the weekend, Giago said he felt confident the democrat would address native American issues.
