American swimmer Aaron Peirsol’s temporary disqualification in the 200-meter backstroke at the Olympic pool was the result of a blank judges’ report, a high-ranking swimming official said Friday. Initially, no one could explain why Peirsol’s victory Thursday was taken away and then given back 30 minutes later. Officials said only that a lane judge’s report of an illegal move on Peirsol’s final turn was “not in the working language of FINA,” the sport’s world governing body. It turns out there was no language at all — the judge’s card was blank, FINA executive director Cornel Marculescu said. Marculescu confirmed that...

DOHA (AFP) - Iranian Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani warned that Iran might launch a preemptive strike against US forces in the region to prevent an attack on its nuclear facilities. "We will not sit (with arms folded) to wait for what others will do to us. Some military commanders in Iran are convinced that preventive operations which the Americans talk about are not their monopoly," Shamkhani told Al-Jazeera TV when asked if Iran would respond to an American attack on its nuclear facilities. // clip
  • Iraqi Prision Abuse - Considering Women in the Military (Vanity - but not vain)

I have always maintained that women should not be in the military. I have only one exception; women can be nurses in the rear and on hospital ships, never in combat. I would even exclude uniformed women from working in the Pentagon. Since the Iraqi prison abuse pictures have come out and the most resent news that one female PFC was involved in group sex with American soldiers that was photographed/filmed I am wondering what role women should have in the military. I understand how it is to be an 18- to 22-year old that is filled with hormones. Is...

Denver teachers have voted to embrace a new pay plan that would stop rewarding them for years on the job and start recognizing specific skills and achievements in the classroom. Approval from the teachers' union puts the closely watched plan into the hands of Denver voters, who will be asked in 2005 for a property-tax increase to pay for the $25 million annual cost. Members of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association supported the proposal, written as part of the teachers' contract, by a decisive 59 percent to 41 percent. About 2,700 of the union's 3,200 members cast ballots. The 70,000-student...

By now everyone has heard of MoveOn.org. I have noticed in a number a threads people wishing that there was a conservative response to MoveOn.org. I took the first step today to register the domain name, MoveOnRats.org. Additionally, I registered the domain name, EndPC.org - (meaning - End Political Correctness) I'm doing this as an individual - fully using my freedom of speach. So there isn't PAC, 501(c), 527, etc. behind the domain names. Perhaps in the future it may evolve into something more signficant - but I need to see what interest there is in this. I'm interested in...

Officials at a federal prison in New York hindered an investigation that determined that as many as 20 guards abused detainees who were picked up shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, the Justice Department reported Thursday. Investigators found hundreds of videotapes that officials at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn had said were destroyed or erased, according to a report by the department's internal watchdog, Inspector General Glenn A. Fine. The tapes confirmed the detainees' allegations of abuses that were outlined in a June report by Fine, the follow-up inquiry said. Investigators said many of the 84 detainees were mistreated....

O'Reilly says that you cannot trust a word out of Matt Drudge's mouth ... He is comparing Drudge to Micheal Moore ... using words phrases like "no responsibility". Has O'Reilly gone off the deep end the last couple of weeks or what?
