  • Finally Got My IRS Refund Today

I have seen a few vanities like this over the past few months asking about IRS refund checks being late. We file in February and usually see something in about a month, until this year. The IRS "Where's My Refund" site has a note now saying that paper returns may take 6 months to process. I also found out to access that site, you have to log in to the IRS site first and create an account. That was a chore.

AMAC keeps pushing PureTalk over other wireless carriers as having no agenda or being "un-woke". How does PureTalk rate compared to other carriers in terms of access, reliability, cost and customer service? How easy is it to switch over?

I am seriously considering donating a 1999 30 ft travel trailer to a San Diego area 501C3 program for disabled veterans. Any advice out there on pitfalls or things to look out for? The two strongest candidate agencies claim they will pick it up and do all the paperwork. I would really like to give the proceeds to Fisher House but can't seem to find an specific pathway for that.

My half sister's father, a US Army E-7 retiree died very recently. They have already stopped his retirement and VA payments and understand they are terminated as of his DOD last week. Her father had a VGLI policy and named her stepmother (not the half sister's biological mother who died giving childbirth) as the beneficiary. The father and stepmother separated but did not divorce 12 years ago. The family has never had contact with the stepmother for that entire period and has no contact information. The VA was notified of the death and is now searching for the stepmother beneficiary. They...

Yesterday a group of us discussed our prior military experiences, we had never met before and it was informal employment seminar for my business. I exclusively hire vets and being one, I know we are all capable of embellishing our careers with war stories. Amazingly, not one guy claimed to be a SEAL or Green Beret but, one woman in the group claimed that she was a former USAF Enlisted Tactical Air Controller. It just didn't smell right and I asked about her training. She said Keesler AFB. She couldn't "find" her DD 214. I told her I could go...

Yesterday President Trump flew into Yuma, Arizona for a visit. I joined other members of the community by the airport to witness the landing of Air Force 1. Just standing around for about an hour and 15 minutes I was able to see a lot about our community.People were informally gathering along the side of the road, near the fairgrounds, to get a spot to see the landing. By and large this group started at about 200 when I arrived and swelled to about 500 probably more. The early arrivals were almost exclusively Trump supporters and there was no doubt...

I am doing a model of the T-28B circa 1970's for a friend's family (He died about three years ago). He was a rear seater at NAS El Centro running instrumentation for parachute testing. His recollection was that his plane was all white. This is uncommon for a navy trainer of the era. Usually they have a red or orange cowling, tail and wing colors. If anyone has any recollection of this type of plane at NAS El Centro could you please tell me the color scheme? Also a general question for all color schemes that were white and red. What...

Well the media is in a frenzy now, particularly CNN and the Washington Post, that the Mueller report doesn't exonerate or accuse President Trump of obstruction of justice. Isn't that exactly what AG Barr said in his summary? OK now to the point: It is obvious that the report has completely debunked the Russian collusion charges. Where is the retraction from the accusers and the media? Where is the statement from all those rampaging through the news and opinion programs for the past months, that the President is a Russian puppet? Why aren't we and congress holding them accountable for...

Today my wife and I were sitting in close proximity to three gay men discussing President Trump. They were all over the place about the attempts to impeach him and were holding out hope that his business dealings would be found to conflict with his official duties. While they hoped that would result in his impeachment, they certainly didn't know what the succession to office entailed. They didn't know who would replace him under the 25th amendment but I got the impression they assumed there would be a special election. The conversation then took a remarkable turn when they conceded that...

We have survived Hurricane Rosa here in the western part of Arizona. The weather guessers have breathlessly been forecasting three inches of watery doom for the past few days. We got drizzle for two of them although Sunday's monsoon thunderstorm was pretty epic. The problem there is they happen once or twice every monsoon season. This was our once or twice. Now this morning's report has the doomsday hurricane remnants and our forecasted three inches, moving east towards Phoenix. The weather channel staff looked disappointed, once again facing failure of their european model for hurricane track forecasting. Their second "worst...

I am considering donating my car to a charity. The internet is full of charities that want the car but there is very little on the money management "internals" that say how the money is distributed. The BBB says some give as little as 4% up to 44% but usually they don't name names at either end of the spectrum. Any Freepers out there with recommendations and positive experiences? My preference would be to donate to Disabled Veterans, Veterans or animal welfare organizations in that order.

The recent spate of sexual abuse claims has all been against men, usually men in authority. My experiences in the work force is that there is a fair share of women who are aggressively on the move sexually. This includes ladder climbers looking for better job positions and supervisors attempting to intimidate subordinates of both genders. I would expect to see at least a few cases where a woman is the culprit if the allegations we hear represent reality.

Local Arizona high schoolers are interviewing veterans to publish their stories in a book titled Since You Asked. This is a hardbound anthology covering veteran's stories from WWII to the present and new volumes are published when approximately 60 new stories are collected. The book is divided into eras (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War, Desert Storm, War on Terror etc) and the average story and associated pictures is about 3-4 pages long. It is a living project and volumes are published as soon as enough material is gathered. Each story is based on a student's interview with a veteran. The...

After Action Report:We went to the civil air side of the Yuma AZ airport and there were about 100-150 cars with people waiting to see AF-1. They appeared to care less about politics for the most part although if political views were displayed it was all President Trump support. We drove by where the protesters were arranged, all 20 of them, at the park across the street from the end of the runway. DAYTON, Ohio -- A military plane that was practicing for an air show in heavy fog has crashed at an airport in Ohio, officials said Friday. CBS affiliate WHIO-TV reports an F-16 Thunderbird crashed and overturned shortly before 1 p.m. at the end of a runway at Dayton International Airport. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds confirmed crew members were "conducting a familiarization flight" and "there was a mishap upon landing."
