Dogs are also considered unclean, (najis), in Islam. If a Muslim has a dog in his house, he will lose blessings and Angels will not enter that house. In theory at least, dogs are allowed to be kept for hunting & herding, and exceptions are made for guide dogs for the blind. Black dogs are particularly reviled, being seen as the Devil. Any devout Muslim who is exposed to the saliva of a dog must wash himself 7 times, the final time with dirt. Oddly, cats are allowed as pets and wolves are not considered najis.
