BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A 27-year-old man charged last month with murder for killing his grandfather is now accused of attacking a corrections officer and three inmates in the Kitsap County Jail... ...While securing Lippard-Taste, an officer reported that he “talked about getting respect and that he is a murderer,” and said those attacked were lucky they didn’t get killed, court documents said. When questioned how he would kill them, investigators wrote that Lippard-Taste said: “Check my cell. There’s a sharpened spoon in my cell. I could stab you through your eye.” Officers then searched Lippard-Taste’s cell and found a...

Former Vice President Joe Biden says he won't raise taxes on anyone with annual income of less than $400,000. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has tweeted, and stated in the second debate, that his Democratic rival would raise taxes to a level never seen before in America. Both candidates can't be correct. But neither is entirely wrong, either. Biden's tax increases are focused on the wealthy and target three key areas: raising the top income tax rate to 39.6% for those making above $400,000; hiking the rate on capital gains to 39.6% for investment income above $1 million; and imposing a...

SEATTLE — A grocery store cashier who was on his way to work was brutally beaten after being asked if “black lives matter,” according to the victim. Moses Brundyy, 20, was walking to work at about 7 a.m. Saturday when he was approached by a stranger near the Ballard Market. “He asked me how I feel about black lives matter,” he said. “I told him they do. I repeated black lives matter, and he basically got me on the ground within the first punch. He started beating me up and just continued with it, and I was knocked unconscious.”

SEATTLE — Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said a “large group of aggressive protestors” targeted her house late Saturday night in Snohomish County. Protesters that were there that night said they are disappointed in Chief Best’s letter. They said they disagree that they were aggressive, and instead, said the aggressors were the neighbors Best praised. “All we were doing was walking and they met us with guns, I don’t know who the aggressor is at that point, but I don't think it's us,” said Nicole Gitaka, a demonstrator with “Every Day March.” Gitaka and her fellow protesters said less than...

Bills that would have limited how many rounds can be stored in gun magazines and what guns can be sold did not pass in Olympia. Neither bill was approved before Wednesday's 5 p.m. deadline. Lawmakers knew earlier this month the proposed ban on firearms defined as assault weapons did not have the votes to proceed.

SEATTLE - A Washington state judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by young activists who argued the state is violating their rights by failing to protect them from climate change. In his ruling Tuesday, King County Superior Court Judge Michael Scott says the issues in the case are political questions that must be addressed by the legislative and executive branches and cannot be resolved by a court.

The political map doesn't look very good for Democrats ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, according to a new analysis published by FiveThirtyEight. The analysis, written by Cook Political Report's David Wasserman, says that if Democrats were to win every single House and Senate race next year in places that Hillary Clinton won or that President Trump by less than 3 percentage points last November, they could still lose the House and lose five Senate seats.

Feeling kind of goofy today. Came up with a great slogan for the Sanders campaign. I'm thinking Bernard is using the wrong part of his name in the famous "Feel the Bern" slogan. My idea is: Reach way down! Feel the 'Nard! Of course, the first part is optional; more suited to banners and longer media. The latter part is great for bumper stickers. Just imagine it. Excited rallies, with one side of the audience chanting the first part, followed by the other side. It would be epic.

I know there are profanity filters on "letters to the editors" sites, but this is ridiculous. The Everett Herald (a Washington state newspaper) has software that actually replaced the word "chink" with asterisks when I entered the Merriam-Webster definition. The ESPN writer probably stepped in it with his double entendre, but it's just a word, people. With legitimate meanings.
