"lending credence to the widespread belief that Mr. Clinton is still calling the shots for the national Democratic Party." Question: Why is this news to these reporters? This is a known fact, and has been for the last 2 years.

That's because they "care" more. This is the same flawed principle behind the waiting period for gun purchases. It assumes all criminals will cooperate with the system. Fat chance of that.

Excellent point. Besides, as was stated before, does anyone really think a gun control law stops someone who wants a gun, and has no aversions to breaking the law? Of course not. We all know that by definition, the law enforcement agencies of this country are reactive, not proactive. Thanks to weapons owned by free citizens, crime rates drop with enactment of concealed carry laws and the like. I sincerly hope that someone who is carrying happens across this guy, and just splatters him.

I loved this article as well. It dovetails nicely with a quote I saw on AndrewSullivan.com today, in reference to the President. I post it here, as credited to the Financial Times:

Paik Jin-hyun, professor of international relations at Seoul National University, said the North was using nuclear weapons to "blackmail" the US into supporting its crumbling economy. "North Korea seems to misunderstand the nature of the Bush administration," Mr Paik said. "What may have worked with [President Bill] Clinton will not work with [President George W.] Bush. Trying to use nuclear weapons to blackmail this US government. .. is the worst possible tactic."

    LOOK!!! Someone finally got it!

I agree that the taking of Baghdad will be very very ugly. Urban warfare is never pretty, in any guise. It just depends on what basis we decide to fight that war. If we force our military to go building to building to eliminate the problems, we could be in for some problems. But, if we can make a few precision bombing runs on selected buildings, think of the difference that could make.

Your comment on the Republican Guard is right on, as well. We never really engaged them in 91, as Saddam kept them back while planning his surrender. But, even with their elite status, I believe that is a battle we can win without taking heavy casualties.

The most disconcerting part of the invasion is indeed the prospect of an urban war. But, it is a necessary evil of the situation. Do I like the idea of our soldiers being forced to fight it? No, not at all. Do I think they should? Yep. It is imperative for many reasons, several of which I outlined before. I don't disagree that it will be difficult, but I believe our brave men and women in uniform are up to the task.

I agree that there are several bad things that can happen when we invade. But, the likelihood is that we will win this battle. It will cost us more casualties than the 91 Gulf War did, but the claims that we will lose 'a batallion a day' are grossly overstated. you notice all the doom and gloomers are the same ones from 91, except they (for the maost part) stay away from casualty estimates (beyond saying they will be staggering or horrifying). That's because they were made to look foolish in 91, and they fear the same thing will happen now. I truly believe that sitting back and doing nothing, allowing Saddam to acquire WMD, is tantamount to sitting back and watching someone rob you house because you don't believe in violence. To back away from this objective now, will only embolden these fanatics to a fever pitch, because they see America as the cause of all their problems (a view espoused by their 'enlightened' leadership). To sit back and watch, to say 'well, we got Afghanistan cleaned out, that'll hold us for now, is to invite 9-11 (or worse) all over again. I am 100% in favor of the operation, because to cure the problem, you have to start at the source. Of course, I also think SDI programs are a great idea (and that looks like a winner in re: North Korea), because they give pause. Sure we can't eliminate nukes, they are outof the bag. But every little timpot dictator neing allowed to build one so he can hold the world hostage? No thanks.

With the war in Afghanistan slowing down, we have (in the view of these radical idiots) already attacked the 'Muslim' world. So, now some would have us sit back and wait for the next attack, fire a few cruise missles or UN resolutions off at these people, and then call it good. Dangerous foolishness is what I would call that attitude. Strength begets respect. The only rule these people understand is that of the iron fist. If we sit back and wait, we appear weak in their eyes, which only emboldens them to more attacks. Yes, if we attack, we will risk more attacks, but we are doing that now. If we hit back at these people, hard, and crush their supporters, they will be cowed. Yes, I believe they can hurt us. DO I believe they have a prayer of stopping us? Not a chance. This war will call for vigilance from the American people and resolve of the American spirit, not another pointless resolution or attempts at appeasement. Appeasement only causes more bloodshed in the end, or a nation-styate with which one is forced to negotiate because of an earlier policy of appeasement (for a great example of this, see North Korea). Do I think they can hurt us? Yes. Do I think they can win? Hell No!

Wow, what a great article this is, and something that desperately needs to be trumpeted. The politics of appeasement have not, and will never be a viable option if America is to remain a superpower in today's volatile international environment.

Of course not! This is the sortof reporting you get from unprincipled, foolish reporters. I still think it is funny how many reporters report on how ignorant GW is, when he has thus far managed to outwit all the Democrats at every turn.
