That was a disgraceful version of the Star Spangled Banner by Fergie. Then, as soon as she finished, she screamed, “Let’s play basketball.” Sheesh

Every morning, at 6am, Bones would nudge his owner, John, on the hand or nose, whatever was closest to the edge of the bed, to wake him up. John would get his wits about him, roll out of bed, and take Bones for a walk. This same routine happened every morning. For years. Then one day, Bones passed away, after a long and happy life. The next morning, right at 6am, John woke up and glanced at the clock. Slowly, he turned over, hugging his wife, and nuzzled her neck seductively. With his mouth close to her ear, he whispered,...

When I worked in the White House, I was viewed as strange by many of my colleagues on Sean Spicer’s press team. Although, as a deputy assistant to President Trump, I could regularly be seen on the major news networks, standing on the North Lawn of the White House and discussing some aspect of the administration’s latest policy, I maintained a rather different relationship with the press than all of my other politically-appointed colleagues. Unless we had a preexisting relationship, I didn’t trust any journalist. And if you came from an outlet that belonged to what President Trump calls #FakeNews,...

New data out today from YouGov BrandIndex suggests that Fox News is losing its luster in the eyes of Republican consumers -- who, it must be noted, pretty much despise CNN and MSNBC more than ever.
  • Social Security Benefits Bonus Deposit?

Did anyone else receive a Social Security Benefits bonus deposit last night? There is no explanation, of course, but it is for more than a few dollars. I would love to know what brought this on, other than a bribe by the Obama administration.

Windows 10 keeps popping up a message in the SysTray, trying to tell me that Windows Firewall AND Webroot AV/Firewall are both disabled. I have intentionally disabled Windows Firewall, but Webroot is fully up and actively protecting my system. What's up with this Microsoft lie? Is there any way to stop the fallacious popup?
  • Change in FR Coding?

It has become more difficult to read posts on Free Republic lately. Strange characters are appearing in text that has apostrophes or quotation marks. If I copy and paste text that contains apostrophes or quotation marks, from another website, when I Preview or Post the copied text into a Free Republic thread these strange characters appear. Has there been a recent change in the coding here that is causing this? Anyone know?
  • Windows Installer App not Working

    12/20/2014 7:19:10 AM PST · by savedbygrace · 49 replies
I have a Lenova C440 All-in-One Windows 8.1 PC. Recently I tried to install an application from the DVD installer disc. It failed. The first part of the process, choosing the location and the type of install, worked fine, but when the disc was supposed to spin up and copy/install all the files, it just sat there with no activity. After several minutes, I canceled out of it. I tried an install disc for a different app, and it failed similarly. I have done an Internet search for the issue, and have tried a few of the suggestions, including a...

I have a home defense shotgun, a Maverick 88, next to my bed, but I would like to also have a handgun, for more immediate defense in parts of the house other than my bedroom. I want to spend as little money as possible for a handgun that will stop an intruder, or at least slow him down so I can get to my shotgun, but will offer the least possibility of firing accidentally. When I add that last part, I'm thinking of those videos we've all seen with a LEO demonstrating firearm safety and the handgun fires inadvertently. Thank...

I have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan that has more than 130,000 miles on it. Today, it started acting really weird. The key will not turn in the ignition hardly at all. Twice I was able to get it to turn. The steering wheel gets completely locked and it is nearly impossible to get it to move at all. Also, the (parking) Brake light, the ABS light and the Air Bag light on the dash stay on the whole time. And the power window buttons on the door do absolutely nothing. None of this happened earlier this morning, but the...
  • Want to Buy a New PC

    12/23/2013 12:43:41 PM PST · by savedbygrace · 123 replies
So, I want to buy a new PC. I have a 4 year old Asus laptop and the screen has a lot of bad pixels. And I do not want to install Win7 again, but Start and Shutdown are both taking a long time, so I know I should re-install if I keep it. So, my options are to buy a laptop with Win8, or a combo laptop/touch-screen with Win8. I will not buy a desktop PC. What are the advantages of each, and which models would you recommend? I want as much RAM as possible, maybe 8GB, and the...

A full transcript of what the former Marine said to the crowd reads: We don't need this. I'm a retired... I was a retired Colonel in the Marine Corps. I saw a sign hanging in the back that said we want "More Mayberry, Less Fallujah." I spent a year in Fallujah. You know what, when I first got there, I didn't have armored Humvees. I spent...I traveled over 10,000 miles over there. Sometimes you had to deal with and go with what you had. That's part of the job, for one.
  • Social Security Question

    03/16/2013 11:13:02 AM PDT · by savedbygrace · 27 replies
I have a question about Social Security. I'm considering going part time at work and applying for Social Security. If I keep my part time work income under the $14,700 limit, so the SS payments would not be reduced, would my Social Security receipts be included in Gross Income on my 1040? To ask it it another way, let's says my SS payments total $12,000 for the year, and my part time work payments total $13,000. Would my Gross Income on my 1040 the following April be $13,000, $25,000, or something in between? Thanks,

So, the Bush tax cuts will expire on Jan 1, 2013, and the Dims and the Republicans are miles apart on the solution. Here's what I think the Republicans ought to do immediately: Announce to the American people that if the voters give them the White House and majorities in both Houses on November 6, 2012, they will do the following: 1) When they return to the Lame Duck session of Congress following the elections, they will agree to the Democrats' demand that they vote in favor of restoring the Bush tax cuts for what the Democrats are calling the...
