This is something I wrote a week or so ago and posted in my office along with the accompaning Gif. Hope you like it. It sure made me feel better after I wrote it. Is it worth the fight? As I walked among the graves at Hamm cemetary in Luxembourg where many of the Americans who died during the Battle of the Bulge are buried, I couldn't help but wonder whether or not the scarifice was worth the price they paid. Then I thought about the millions of unmarked graves in which the victims of the fascist governments lie and ...

If you don't mind I will make a few suggestions for the forum. 1. Take your children to the nearest National Cemetary, walk with them amoung the graves and explain to them the sacrifice behind each and every headstone. 2. Take them to Memorial Day and Veterans Day Ceremonies. 3. When society is teaching them revisionist history, ensure that they learn the truth (The Nazis were bad and the Japaneese were the agressors in the pacific.) 4. Take them to the local V.A. hospitals to visit the Vets there. The patients probably don't have many visitors and they would ...

Inside The Pentagon November 9, 2000 Pg. 18 At Close Range Birthday Wish Tomorrow (Nov. 10) marks the 225th birthday of the Marine Corps. Consequently, "in gatherings large and small, Marines will assemble . . . to honor both our history and the memory of those who have preceded us," Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Jones says in his "birthday message" to service members. "It is fitting that we do so, for it is our profound respect for our traditions and reverence for our heritage that distinguishes us as a corps of Marines." The modern-day Marine Corps traces its ...

What Does Veteran's Day Mean to Me? I would like to open with a poem that I found a few months back: Just A Simple Soldier He was getting old and paunchy, And his hair was falling fast, And he sat around the Legion, Telling stories of the past. Of a war that he had fought in , And the deeds that he had done. In his exploits with his buddies; They were heroes, everyone. And 'tho sometimes, to his neighbors, His tales became a joke, All his buddies listened, For they knew whereof he spoke. But we'll hear his ...

The somber black tones of the poster symbolize the darkness in our lives from those taken from us ... those who are missing. The black background with white border brings to mind the stark black POW/MIA flag. In the upper left-hand corner is the missing American. This is our loved one, our son, our father, our brother. He is not with us. He is missing. He is always with us. The telegram symbolizes the link to the families of our missing ... those who have for so long ... sought answers. The jet aircraft are flying the traditional "missing man" ...

Corey DePooter deserved to become a United States Marine. He deserved to grow up, too. But he never got the chance to do either: He was one of the kids murdered in the Columbine library. Yet DePooter's brave acts that terrible day exemplified the best that the U.S. Marine Corps represents. The 17-year-old had gone to the library to study during his lunch break, a remarkable act of self-discipline. When the shooting started, DePooter stayed calm and soothed other terrified students, displaying extraordinary coolness under fire. Most courageous of all, young DePooter then used his own body to shield ...

Daring Mission Remembered They huddled inside a tent on an island off Oman and went down the list. Pilots and crew members wanted to make sure they knew exactly who died in the collision of a helicopter and transport plane in Iran. It confirmed their greatest fears: Five men from their squadron and three Marines from another were killed April 25, 1980, in the aborted attempt to rescue 52 American hostages in Iran. The mission was a failure, a tragedy. The squadron sat quietly when a group of British workers from the airfield dropped off a couple of cases of ...

  • The Secret is Out on WWII Navajo code talkers

    03/21/2000 5:16:37 PM PST · by SSgt Mike · 55+ views
Chicago Tribune | March 17, 2000 | Bill Papich, Special to the Tribune
GALLUP, N.M. -- During World War II, they spoke the Navajo language as a code to confound Japanese eavesdropping on American military communications. Today, Hollywood and the country's second largest toy company listen to them. When the surviving Navajo code talkers meet once a month in this railroad and ranching town bordering the Navajo Nation, they talk about their newly found fame. Two major motion pictures about the Navajo code talkers are in the works, and last month toymaker Hasbro Inc. introduced Navajo Code Talker GI Joe, the company's first doll to speak a Native American language. "All of ...
