Yes,Luther was ani-Semitic, as were many in and outside the Catholic Church during the 1500’s. Is that acceptable today? No, certainly not among those who claim the name of Christ.
Our founding fathers owned slaves and supported human trafficking. Is that acceptable today? Certainly not among those who claim the name of Christ.
Yet both Luther and our founding fathers did something which resulted in liberty and freedom. The results of their labors no not negate the evils of anti-Semitism or slavery. Those were the times they lived in.
Note—Luther had a friend and protector in Frederick the Wise, prince of Saxony. Although Prince Fred was sympathetic to Luther's views and even expressed his doubts concerning Catholic dogma, he nevertheless remained a Catholic all his life. God uses anyone He chooses to advance the good news of the gospel of grace.
