Burning is the officially approved manner to respectfully retire a worn out flag. So I would do nothing if that is the perpetrator’s intent.

If someone is deliberately trying to desecrate a flag as part of their protected right of free speech, I would exercise my right to free speech also, as strenuously as I could.

I feel that the explanation I’ve offered is completely in line with every scripture that touches on the Godhead. Also what I’ve written is NOT an illustration or analogy; it is put forward as THE single explanation of how Jesus can be the Son of God and also God Himself.

If we superimpose everything we know about the phenomenon of light onto the Godhead because the scripture “God is Light” gives us license to do so; then there are properties of light that don’t really fit. ie composed of quanta, travels at 186,000 mi/sec etc. Your observation might make a good basis for a sermon but it’s quite different than what I am trying to accomplish.

I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts/ criticisms

    A restatement.

That the Trinity is an unfathomable mystery is a point of faith in many people’s beliefs but I do not think that the Bible teaches that the Trinity is inherently beyond understanding. The Bible gives many clues that led to the formal statements of the doctrine but to date there have been few attempts express the Trinity in a way that was comprehensible yet were aligned with orthodox Christian doctrine.

This is not an analogy to help someone understand the Trinity better but is an assertion of what is the primary nature of the relationship of the Father and Son. I was hoping that someone would either refute it Biblically or help refine the presentation of it as a fuller answer to understanding the mystery of the Trinity.

The various Christian creeds that touch on the Trinity give carefully crafted descriptions of the relationships within the Godhead, but the hard to comprehend aspects are generally relegated to mystery. The question how three persons can be in fact, be one is not addressed in the creeds but rather the creeds merely contain eloquent assertions that the Three are indeed One and mostly leave it at that; no real explanation is offered. Many Christians resort to one analogy or another as a means to comprehend and express the relationships within the Godhead. Yet no analogy can be truly analogous; the Godhead is unique.

I feel that all attempts to articulate the Triune Godhead that I have seen focus on inconsequentials like the shared qualities of the Members of the Godhead. The nature of the Trinity is subtle but also rather simple. I apologize that I couldn’t come up with a way to express it more compactly, please bear with me.

Identity is not the same as identical:
You will acknowledge that God in His Omnipotence has the power to create a perfect copy of me, a color Xerox of me if you will. Such a copy might be so perfect that the copy would be convinced that he actually WAS me. My family couldn’t tell the difference either because he would share every single attribute I possessed.; but he wouldn’t truly BE me and I would rightly object to being killed to make room for him . Conversely, if my own attributes ever changed for some reason like due to having a stroke, and I even forgot the faces of my own children, wouldn’t I still be me? I am a being and each being that exists has its own unique identity. That identity is independent of whatever attributes are present or absent.

    God is outside of time:
“In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth.”. Genesis 1:1

This verse describes the creation of the Earth, the cosmos, and the creation of the place we commonly call Heaven. When God created everything, He also created time and space. God therefore exists beyond time and space. Glimpses we get into the third Heaven in Revelation, reveal that there is some sort of dimensionality there but one cannot reach Heaven by physically traveling to it from Earth. In a sense, the realm that we call Heaven is sort of like a parallel universe. One wrinkle in that comparison is that the time in Heaven is apparently locked to the time here on Earth. Verses that describe reactions in Heaven to events on Earth indicate that the time is synchronized between Heaven and Earth.

I said all that to highlight that our existence here on Earth is spacial and temporal. The scriptures strongly imply that existence in Heaven is spacial and temporal too. Even though the Lord’s Prayer includes the line “Our Father, Who art in Heaven...”, the created realm that is Heaven, doesn’t fully contain God. The Psalmist says that God has to bow down to even LOOK at Heaven. When Solomon was dedicating the Temple, he said to God “even the Heaven of Heavens cannot contain You.”. This is all because God is beyond time and space.

However, in the incarnation, Jesus WAS contained by time and space here on the Earth; He wasn’t omnipresent even though He saw Andrew from afar. And even though all power and authority was given to Jesus; He wasn’t omnipotent. When Jesus said that only the Father knew the time of His coming, Jesus implied that He wasn’t omniscient either. Detailed knowledge of the future apparently was the domain only of the Father who is beyond time.

What does God’s only Begotten Son mean?
We serve a living God, but what do we mean when we we say that God is alive? Isn’t it that like us, God is a Being? Doesn’t even His Name “I AM” assert God’s livingness as a being? We humans are alive as sentient beings. We are each a “Self Awareness” which is something alive that is superimposed upon our biological lives. This most important component of our “livingness” is this intangible thing that is looking out of our eyes. Indeed, that is how we humans were made by God “after His own Likeness.” God is a living being and so are we. Another word used to denote our being is “soul”. It is our soul that we hope will live again in the resurrection. But if God reassembles you again after you are fed through a wood chipper, will the resurrected you be the REAL you or merely a color Xerox of you?

Christians believe that God has the power to truly raise them from the dead. We therefore believe God has the power to manipulate individual souls, moving them through time and space, housing them and rehousing them as needed; Indeed, He demonstrated that power by placing His own Being, His “I AM”, into a human body in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago and then subsequently dieing and rising again.

It is meaningless to talk about the dual natures of Christ when the important fact is that Jesus was/is the same I AM as the Father. Also whatever attributes were present or absent in the incarnation is of secondary relevance to the fact that Jesus was and is, the same I AM as the Father. When God breathed life into Adam, He created a new being to inhabit Adam’s body. In the incarnation of Jesus, God installed His own Being, His very Life into the Human body that was Jesus’. Just as when I begot my son by contributing my LIVING sperm that became a vital part of the LIVING cell that grew into my living son; so God begot Jesus by putting His own life, His very BEING into His Son’s body. Jesus and the Father aren’t two persons. They are two different instances of the SAME person if the word person means anything at all. Talk of the “same substance” or of “essences” doesn’t convey the awesome reality of Jesus’ oneness with the Father. The talk of three persons in the creeds are error I feel.

    The answer to the Mystery:
The questions that may still confound the reader are “If Jesus is the same Being / I AM / Person as the Father,

How can Jesus and the Father exist at the SAME time?” ( like at the baptism of Jesus )

How can Jesus be subordinate to the Father?”

How could Jesus pray to the Father and talk about Him in the third person?”

The answer to question number one is the key to it all.

    IT ISN’T THE SAME TIME!!!”

The Father is the Great “ I AM “ who dwells OUTSIDE of time and space. In the incarnation, Jesus was the I AM of God dwelling WITHIN time and Space. There is no paradox or simultaneity conflict between the two realms. All of God’s attributes couldn’t fit in this Universe or in Jesus’ human body though, The Father to Son relationship is a result of the inevitable Greater to Lesser / Begetter to Begotten nature of the relationship.

In brief, Jesus is the “I AM” of God within time and space, the Father is the “I AM” Who dwells beyond time and space. If the reader can get a handle on this, all of the scriptures that touch on this topic will fall into place.

Even Jesus’ existence in Heaven was and is temporal. Whether you contend that Jesus had a beginning with the start of time in Heaven, or if you say that Jesus existed from eternity past before the Creation, doesn’t really change what makes Jesus one with the Father. Focusing on whether attributes are shared or not doesn’t affect the awesome fact that our God so contrived reality that He could give up His life for us. Jesus wasn’t some hapless third party that God punished on our behalf; Jesus was God Himself in the flesh!!

That fact is much more wondrous than anything you gain by adhering to the words of some mouldy creed.

An interesting wrinkle to this understanding provides a rationale for why there will be a New Heaven and a New Earth. While the desirability of a New Earth may be obvious; the need for a New Heaven is not. What is wrong with the, no doubt, awesome Heaven that exists now?

The rationale is buried within a point mentioned earlier. God cannot be contained by Heaven. Though Heaven may be God’s Throne and the Earth His footstool, Heaven is still a created, temporal place, too small for God. Yet in Revelation 21, right after the New Heaven and Earth are established, a momentous angelic announcement is heard.

“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”

    Hear what’s being said here:

“...God Himself will be with them...”

God will be able to move into the New Heaven and make Himself at home there. Apparently, God’s plan for eternity is to remake reality so He can spend it just as close to us as He can get us. Cool Huh?

I feel all this is the answer to 2/3 of the Trinity mystery. Most discussions of the Trinity only speak of the Father and the Son so I’ve left it there. The relationship of the Holy Spirit to the rest of the Godhead seems much more elusive for now.

About half the analogies people offered here are examples of modalism.

Thanks for your response, but I was hoping someone here would “get it” and come up with a more elegant way to express it than what I offered. By “it” I mean that this post represents a momentous improvement in our understanding of the Trinity.

I don’t mean to be cruel, but it’s as if I’ve found a simple way to achieve cold fusion and people respond with:

“That’s nice, but you know what I like doing for energy? First, I built a really big hamster wheel and then I put a goat in it...”

Yes, what I wrote isn’t poetic or pretty or pithy. I also neglected to include much in the way of extolling the Father and the Son. I chose only to address the core of the Trinity mystery, a mystery that only persists because of a lack of understanding on our part.

“Here’s a novel Idea .... maybe Constantine, Alexander, Athanasius and Hosea got it wrong back in 325 AD!”

I’m pretty sure you meant this as an oblique criticism, but I agree. People have debated the topic for centuries, most will pick some statement of faith as their favorite. However, no such statement is the last word and embodies the Truth fully.

In particular, Constantine made it a capital offense to teach anything that smacked of the teachings of Arius. There is scant little of Arius’ teachings to be found as a result. Most assume the Arian Heresy asserted a lesser divinity for Jesus that was similar to Jehovah Witness Doctrine. But in a scrap of Arius’ writing it does seem that he noticed the significance of time in addressing the Father/Son mystery. Arius also firmly asserted the true divinity of Jesus in that scrap. He was groping towards an answer but was shouted down by the clamor that gave us the Nicean Creed.

The various Creeds served the Church well through history but were also the imperfect creations of men’s minds. Unfortunately, many people revere their favorite creed to be almost on the level of scripture and will argue down any contradiction of the creed as heretical.

And yes, I do believe they all got it wrong. Maybe I need to be executed for heresy.

What I was trying to overcome is the sterility of the ultra precise verbiage found in the creeds and that I feel also communicate error.

The Chalcedon Creed asserts that Jesus had both a God nature and a human nature with Jesus switching between the two modes. That is a pointless invention and just plain wrong. Jesus didn’t have two natures, He was just Himself.

The Nicean Creed says that Jesus and the Father were different persons but were both made out of the same “stuff”

In the interest of stating my post simply:

Jesus is the I AM of God within time. The Father is the Great I AM beyond time.

Still hard to understand I suppose, but a lot shorter.

I like how the explanation I’ve offered demolishes the Islamist’s argument that Christians are polytheist pagans. Also skeptics have sport ridiculing the notion that God provided a hapless whipping boy that He could vent His anger upon because God loved us SO much. That ridicule is answered well by the explanation above.

I would like to see a serious discussion of the possibility that Obama will use this election as a pretext to establish himself as “El Presidente’ for life” I can envision scenarios where he does it either pre or post election with either Trump or Clinton on a trajectory to win the general.

Has he installed enough loyalists in the Military Command that they would use whatever force was needed to put down a popular revolt? I’m sure that he will have the Left and the media applauding him and spinning anything he does as appropriate.

I cannot tell whether I’m being excessively paranoid or whether I’m right and Obama truly has no regard for the constitution or his oath of office and would do whatever it takes to bring about his vision of America.

Think genetic entropy. Re: “Genetic Entropy” by Dr. John Sanford (inventor of the gene gun).

It boils down to the fact that in every generation of every living thing, there is a small number of copying errors in its DNA. Those errors usually do not cause the outright death of the organisms, therefore there is no natural selection against the accumulating errors. Eventually there is such a general decline in function that the organism becomes so unfit that extinction results from a mildly adverse environmental change.

Bees HAVE been getting scarcer for about the last 20 years. What is the cause of this is unknown. My favorite theory is “genetic entropy” aggravated by the apiarist’s bee handling practices that limit genetic diversity of the bee population.

I feel that the nebulous list of causes discovered for CCD reflects a general decline in the genetic “fitness” of bees. The extinction of bees may be inevitable eventually but beekeepers themselves are probably accelerating that trend.

Genetic entropy is a real phenomenon and must cause the extinction of every living thing eventually. See Dr. John Sanford’s (inventor of the gene gun) work called “Genetic Entropy”

“I will be totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party and the conservative principles for which it stands,”

Isn’t that oddly phrased as in “I am NOT having sex with that woman!”?

Sounds like the Donald will make the pledge at some point in the future, like after HE becomes the GOP candidate or at some future time when he isn’t running. Bill C masked his lies under similar sounding evasions. Why is Trump talking like he’s lieing?

Camouflage means “There is nothing to see here!”

Law enforcement officers have to use deception regularly when dealing with perps.

To throw a surprise party for someone generally involves deception.

“No that outfit doesn’t make you look fat.”

“Jews? What Jews? I would NEVER hide anything from the soldiers of Mein Fuehrer!”

The motive for a lie determines the morality of it.

The ninth commandment as written says:

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”

So no, it isn’t wrong to ‘Lie’ to abortionists unless it is done to accomplish something immoral.

Lying is not immoral. It isn't even what's forbidden in the 9th commandment.

Falsely accusing someone is what the commandment is about. Falsehood as part of any evil act is also evil but lying is often a desirable tool that's used for virtuous actions.

Like Satan expanded on God's command not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge by adding what God didn't say: “Don't touch it either”; this tempest in a teapot is trying to assert that God forbade ALL lying when He didn't.

Both the June bug and Japanese Beetle may have iridescent green parts, the major difference is size. The June bug is 3/4 of an inch long and the Japanese Beetle is much smaller at about 5/16 of an inch. Judging from the sound you are describing, you have the larger critter, the June Bug.

They are benign/harmless. Back in the 60s it was common for school kids to tie a short piece of thread as a leash secured by lightly going around the abdomen/thorax joint and wear these pretty bugs as animated jewelry in school.

We will continue to select the worst candidate from a crowded field as long as the primaries are structured the way they are. In one election in Louisiana, KKK Wizard, David Duke was the Republican candidate for governor because of the same phenomenon. A bunch of quality candidates siphoned votes from each other while a looney candidate got the biggest vote (not a majority) by capturing all of the looney voters.

A possible fix for this anomaly is giving voters a choice to vote FOR a candidate or voting AGAINST a candidate. McCain and Romney were so hated that we never would have been saddled with them if negative votes had been an option.

Will the Stupid Party ever fix this problem? I doubt it.

The nature of the question insures that there would be a crowded field of answers with no one getting more than a few percentage points.

If they asked “Who is the woman you LEAST admire?”, each of the top scorers in the first question would have many times more negative votes than positive. Is this poll were honest they would cite the least HATED of the popular candidates.

Otherwise it’s just a journalistic attempt to manipulate public opinion.

O’Reilly is right, just wrong about the figure.

The GOP should propose, as passionately as they can, raising the minimum to a living wage of 1000.00 dollars an hour.

You very quickly reach the end of reason, We have to deceive ourselves to go on searching for truth for years using tools like logic while ignoring the very real possibility that we might arrive at some logical conclusion that is nevertheless logically flawed.

There are millions of intelligent people all over the world that hold opinions supported by logic that sharply contradict each other. Logically, at least some of these smart people are mistaken. The inherent uncertainty of the “Human Condition” is the consequence of the failure of perception, memory and reason to deliver ANYTHING with absolute certainty.

But God knows about the elusiveness of absolute certainty that humans experience and has a transcendently logical plan to provide knowledge of absolute truth anyway.

Why do reasonably intelligent people keep proposing gun control as if it would solve the murder problem?

The immediate answer that conservatives frequently offer is that the left seeks to control the populace but I believe that real the answer is even more sinister.

    Consider the following:

"He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them"

"Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them."

"As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them"

"Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus."

These quotes from Daniel and Revelation all reference the SAME event; Satan's inevitable and successful attempt to finally eradicate Christians from the Earth.

This makes sense of the resolute yet irrational drive for gun control in our society. It also gives me pause.

An interesting wrinkle is that now it has been announced that the only weapons brought into the school were 4 handguns. There was no AR-15 used at all.

The long gun found in the car truck was supposedly an AR-15 but on the video from a news helicopter it sure looked more like a shotgun.
