Thx for the ping Salvation.
“Sister Jeana Visel, 27, wasn’t sure what she was looking for before joining the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, Ind.”
Unfortunately, these sisters are part of the generation of nuns which have thrown off their habits, have bought into the God is Mother mentality (and never-ever mentions God in the male pronouns), their retreat house offers retreats on Yoga, Reiki, Centering Prayer, etc. etc.
I had the interesting experience of listening to one of their younger gals give her vocation story to a group of eight graders. She never-ever mentioned God in the male gendered pronouns of he, his, him. It was God, God, God, God, God, God, God, God, God, God, God, God, over and over and over again.
When one of the students asked her why she didn’t wear a habit — she went on to explain that it was the charism of St. Benedict Benedict which allows them to not wear a habit (never heard that one before). This despite the fact that the Vatican II Council Document Pefectae Caritatis #17 expressly alludes to religious orders should all wear habits and may modify them due to weather/environment.
Yeah, these nuns may have a few “young ones” coming in — but they are going to die a slow death unless they start teaching and proclaiming the faith (by word and deed) in its fullness.
