We heard it over and over, for weeks and weeks: it was a dead heat, too close to call, the closest election since 1960. In these closing days I want to report what is happening up here with Lazio/Rodham, so our downstate friends, our friends from the Buffalo diaspora, and generally interested parties get a glimpse of the senate race from the perspective of sunny Buffalo. In the flurry of discussion about the debate, I have not seen a point made. Algore last nite made a bizarre point of saying that his children were present "of their own free will," or words to that effect (I cannot remember exactly, because it took a few minutes to sink in). Why would Algore make a point of saying his kids came freely? Because they did not?

When Russert asked his entirely predictable question about the Bills v. the Jets this Sunday, it was a trick question for politicians. I love the Bills. So I know, as a real un-Hillary person, the correct answer for Lazio was "the Jets." Russert threw him a soft ball, one designed to make Rodham look bad (the Yankess). Lazio blew it big time.
