For more than two decades, Houston has been home to a large pair of restored 13th-century Byzantine frescoes that Menil Collection founder Dominique de Menil purchased from art thieves in 1984. Now the Menil is working to return them to their rightful owner, the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus. While that seemingly recalls recent decisions by New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and others to return priceless artworks that improperly left their countries of origin, there's a difference: Neither de Menil nor the museum she founded ever claimed to own the frescoes.... Scolded by Another Federal Judge, ‘Birther’ Lawyer Orly Taitz Blames Court Clerk for Bad Filing Posted Jul 26, 2011 5:24 PM CDT By Martha Neil A California lawyer known for failed "birther" litigation against President Barack Obama that resulted in a $20,000 sanction from a U.S. District Court judge in Georgia has now irritated another member of the federal bench in the nation's capital, according to the Orange County Register. Attorney Orly Taitz "is either toying with the court or displaying her own stupidity,” wrote U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth yesterday in a memorandum and order (PDF) striking Taitz's filing...

Do any FReepers have experience with adverse side effects of malarial preventive meds ?? Our daughter is returning from a Central American country after arriving a week ago for a 6 week student exchange program. We received information thru their network that she was behaving abnormally, itching, depression, not bathing... We thought it was a bad case of homesickness. Then my wife spoke with her and realized it was not our normally happy daughter. She said she was not homesick, but felt depressed, no laughing past 4 days, lost feeling in parts of her body, thoughts about harming herself. The...

OTR (Old Time Radio) is a genre of listening entertainment that has become very popular since the advent of streaming audio over the internet. Before the internet, you were lucky to find any still broadcast over the air for nostalgia purposes. These are old recordings of radio drama shows like Johnny Dollar, Your FBI, Texas Rangers, general music of the era like the Big Bands, adventure serials like the Lone Ranger, Mysterious Island etc. I listen often to OTR (old time radio) while doing certain menial tasks at work that don't require concentration- like those coworkers that listen to their...

AND WHAT TO DO BEFORE IT GETS HERE… by William Lolli, ©2011 (Mar. 15, 2011) — Back in 1975 I was stationed at Clark AB, Republic of the Philippines. When a new, wet-behind-the-ears Airman arrived from the States, the base had a protocol to prepare the “kids” to recognize and resist the dangers of living overseas. The setup for the 3 Card Monte is now in place for the 2012 election cycle: As alluded earlier, Abercrombie is the Dealer. The missing card is the COLB Long Form Birth Certificate. The general public has become the Marks. And the naïve Birthers...

Rep. Darrell Issa is finally getting what he has long craved: subpoena power. From his new perch atop the committee responsible for oversight investigations, the California Republican will be able to demand any document he wishes and summon anybody to appear before him - no small thing for a man who recently referred to President Obama as "one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times." Even so, there's one thing Issa says he won't subpoena: Barack Obama's birth certificate."Mine is not the committee that asks where the president was born," Issa said in an interview.......

In Michigan, a Democratic operative appears closely tied to a slate of candidates running under the Tea Party banner. NAACP Overstated Attendance !?!? Research of local data mined from the internet has determined that the NAACP overstated its projected pre-event attendance to the National Convention this past July in Kansas City by a whopping 40% (+-). Is there a pattern here of overstating things ?? The paragraphs below support such findings. In the Kansas City Star of July 9th an editorial stated: "....when she [Michelle Obama] speaks Monday at the NAACP’s 101st annual convention, which begins today and is expected to bring about 10,000 visitors to Kansas City." Without a legitimate Commander-in-Chief, an Article 32 hearing cannot take place. Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin has refused to follow orders until Barack Hussein Obama proves that he is constitutionally eligible to serve as Commander-in-Chief. If Obama’s eligibility has not been established before the Article 32 hearing scheduled for Lakin on June 11, 2010, then it is illegitimate. Even the officer delivering the charges to Lt. Col. Lakin did not have the authority to do so if Obama is not constitutionally qualified. A retired Navy Commander subject to recall filed a .......

HONOLULU -- The man called the "King of the Birthers" is visiting Hawaii from Chicago and he's threatening to sue the state a second time over President Obama's birth certificate. Andy Martin said he is not a birther, because he said he believes Obama was born in Hawaii. Birthers allege Obama was not born in the United States, and therefore is ineligible to be President. In his bio, Martin describes himself as “a legendary New York and Chicago-based muckraker, author, Internet columnist, radio talk show host, broadcaster and media critic.” He is also a lawyer.

Immigration Chronicles Blogging the issue with the Chronicle staff: I'm not a betting man, but if I was, I'd put down at least 5 bucks that sometime this morning a lawsuit will be filed seeking an injunction against Arizona's new immigration law............... The criticism notwithstanding, the people of Arizona have spoken clearly. There was little doubt the bill would pass the state Legislature. Gov. Brewer, up for election this year, would have suffered the wrath of an angry electorate if she hadn't signed the legislation. ......So all this leads me to wonder: Are we on the verge of an explosive...

(Apr. 10, 2010) — The following essay on the definition of “natural born citizen” was the subject of a report published here several days ago....... Long’s words from the past may seem to some an eerie prediction of things to come. Quoting from the Federalist Papers, several Supreme Court cases and State Department officials, Long lays out in great detail the differences between “citizen,” “native born citizen,” and “natural born citizen.” The Post & Email now exclusively presents the entire essay unedited.

While the left is still cheering on the passage of its Holy Grail legislation (“Nationalized Health Care”), jubliation is still rampant in the socialst leaning streets of Portland Oregon. But reality is beginning to set in. In just the last few days, companies who must disclose their obligations when any of their revenue expectations shift beyond a certain threshold, have begun to do so. Because of Nationalized Health Care, large companies including ATT, John Deere &Co., Caterpillar, AK Steel, 3M, and Valero Energy have all by law begun releasing......
