Below is an email I sent to our 4 major TV Stations, and our major talk radio station in Richmond, VA. "You need to send a news team to 1st Presbyterian Church Polling Place on Cary Street. As of 7:45 AM, they claim they 'ran out of ballots.' I, and many others, had to leave without voting. Incompetence or fixed? This needs investigating, especially in this day and time." This is an outrage. There was a substantial line of voters, which normally isn't the case in an off year election in this precinct, which leads me to believe that conservatives...

Sorry to bother you, but I need a little help. My wife (Happy Mother's Day) is a pre school teacher, and wants to have a collage made of pictures of her class of 15. Her idea is to have a horizontal oval of the entire class in the center of the page, then small, individual pictures of the students (head shots) surrounding it. I have Jasc Paint Shop Pro v9, which I am sure would do it, but I am not that well versed in using those sophiticated programs, and I am ubder a time constaint. In searching google, there...

The text of a letter former President Carter sent to Zell Miller over the weekend ... You seem to have forgotten that loyal Democrats elected you as mayor and as state senator. Loyal Democrats, including members of my family and me, elected you as lieutenant governor and as governor. It was a loyal Democrat, Lester Maddox, who assigned you to high positions in the state government when you were out of office. It was a loyal Democrat, Roy Barnes, who appointed you as U.S. Senator when you were out of office. By your historically unprecedented disloyalty, you have betrayed our...

Our daughter (age 19) has gotten mixed up with a very unsavory character (age 33) who appears to be a con man, drifter, and all around crook. My sister in law has a PI friend who has gotten some info: credit, places of residence, use of aliases and other peoples' social security numbers, etc. The PI got the reports from two different internet sources. Althought they are minor, there are a few conflicts in the information. My question is: Does anyone know of a reliable personal background information service that is accurate and reasonably priced. We looked for one using...

This past weekend, my son and I went on his troop's annual father-son hike. His troop is one of many in the Robert E. Lee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which is headquartered in Richmond, VA. On Sunday, during the church service at the end of the hike, it was announced that the Council directors had voted to change its name from The Robert E. Lee Council, which has been in use for many decades, to something else. This morning, the news broke on the local radio station: WRVA 1140 AM, Richmond's Morning News with Jimmy Barrett.

Sometime ago I read an article that showed the power of the US economy compared to other countries in a humorous manner. It sounded like the kind of thing PJ O'Rourke would write, but it was much more specific. For example, one of the industries cited was US dog food production which had a value of say 78 billion dollars (I pulled that number out of the air), but I remember the underlying comparison vividly. This number exceeded the entire GDP of country a, and b, and c, etc. What I am trying to find is a list of US...

This evening, my wife and I went to a poetry recital. My daughter, Ann, is a senior in(private)high school, and this poetry recital was put on by her class under the supervision of her teacher. There were about 10 participants, and each read two short poems, which took about two minutes each. Ann's name came up about half way through the presentation. Let me say that some were amusing, some thoughtful, but a majority were just plain weird and non-sensical. But nothing could prepare me for what happened when Ann took the stage. Her "sonnet" was riddled with profanities and ...

I want to share with all my fellow FReepers the recipe for what is probably the the greatest egg nog recipe ever. If you are a non drinker, move along, there is nothing to see here. If you are a drinker, even a heavy one, be very careful with this. It is a first cousin to rocket fuel. Warning: this is a pain in the neck to make. It will take you a long time, about an hour and a half, but the results are well worth it. You will even make converts out of prople who are not egg ...

Today is payday in the small manufacturing company where I work. In addition to having to do everything else that goes on there (gratuitous pat on the back, there), I am responsible for preparing the weekly payroll. Included in today's pay envelopes will be a slip of paper with something along the lines of the following printed on it: As you know, 24 Americans are being detained illegally by the Chinese communists. I ask that when you spend this, examine the products that you are going to buy. If the tag on the product says "Made in China" on it, ...

LINCOLN, Neb. –– Poet Maya Angelou went to a hospital emergency room Friday morning, hours after she left an appearance at the University of Nebraska in a wheelchair. The 72-year-old Angelou was not admitted to BryanLGH Medical Center West, an employee said. She did cancel an appearance Friday in Omaha. Angelou left the university's Lied Center for Performing Arts in a wheelchair Thursday night after speaking to 2,400 people. "She was extremely exhausted and needed the wheelchair to get around," said Karen Wills, an organizer of Angelou's appearance. She said Angelou had left Friday afternoon by airplane. Angelou suffered a ...
