Hey, y'all! I was banned for being a "never-Trumper" and now I am back. Thank you, Jim. Well, Trump won. I actually voted for him - as I always have (conservative losers VS. leftists) but I doubted his long-term political survival. I was wrong. I do not apologize for my taste but I will admit he was the best candidate. Now, it remains to be seen if he will be what all [C]onservatives want/wish/pray for him to be. Given some of his apparent appointments, I am not too sure. We shall see. If you want to flame me, go ahead....

This thread (if it survives the moderators) is meant to be an end of the Republic commemorative. Bracketed by end of the Julian calendar and the Chinese New year, I thought a repository of comments marking the rise of a new leftist messiah to be sardonic and fitting. Before any FReepers hit the ABUSE button, please look around youself . . . with kooky vanities about just-the-right-puppy-breeds and the non-stop religious scripts and debates abounding on NEWS/ACTIVISM, I thought a simple question about what conservatives were personally considering doing during the promise of a new age of fascism might be...
  • Africanized Honey Bees Still on the Move

Africanized Honey Bees Are Still on the Move By Kim Kaplan March 6, 2006 In 2005, Africanized honey bees showed up for the first time in Louisiana, Arkansas and Florida. An updated map showing the spread of Africanized honey bees by county and state has been posted on the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) website at www.ars.usda.gov/ahbmap/. The arrival in Florida was not contiguous with the bees' spread from the Southwest. It was most likely a result of human-assisted transport, by which trucks, ships, railroad cars or other types of transportation inadvertently bring Africanized honey bees into new areas. Usually, human-assisted...

The following is a snip from www.democratsexposed.com: "I have been informed by a source in direct contact with Coleen Rowley's campaign, that Blois Olson's PR firm, New School Communications, tried to get Rowley's campaign to hire Blois' firm for a consulting contract. Buck Humphrey, an employee of New School Communications, was the main person trying to get Rowley's campaign to ink the contract. Rowley's campaign decided against hiring New School Communications. According to my source, it was only after Rowley's campaign decided against hiring Blois' firm that Blois started to appear in newspapers criticizing Rowley's campaign. If my source is...

“. . .I must confess, my first reaction to having our speaker today at the National Press Club was the same as a lot of other members—was the same as what a lot of other members of the Club have had: Why do we want to give a forum to that guy? Matt Drudge is the31-year-old chronicler of The Drudge Report, an Internet site packed daily with gossip, tidbits and information on everything from the latest scandal in Washington to the latest Neilsen ratings. He scooped the national news media on Bob Dole's selection of Jack Kemp as his running...

"I thought that, as a timely reminder of the insincerity and emptiness of this 'liberty' cant, it would be fit to hear the musings and considered judgments of the neo-con infantry, the great Freeper horde at the blog of that name. A half-hour's examination of the frothy tirades and murderous incitements there would put any wavering mind out of doubt that what we have here is not a project for freedom and democracy, but, as the Freepers (who, being anonymous, do not dissemble their real opinions) readily fulminate, we have a racist war of civilizations, a comprehensive war against Muslims...

Late last night and most of today, I spent my time in the hospital with my Mom. She's 81 and recently had a spill down the stadium steps of the Target Center (at the last Bush rally in Minnesota) and has developed a subdural hematoma in the rear portion of her brain. She seems stable at this time, but who knows? Most of her waking hours were spent nagging my Dad and her other children about what we need to be doing, etc., etc., etc. She trained for service as a nurse in WWII but never went overseas because the...

Among my many occupations as an average working class guy, I sell honey at a local farmer's market. Today, a tall gentleman came to my booth. His posture and bearing was military even through the withering effects of age. I noticed this immediately and looked him over to observe, rather than to see. On the inside of his left forearm he bore a blurred tattoo. My father carries a tattoo from WWII that has become blurred and indistinct with time. The lettering on the tattoo was blurred like a jail-house tattoo, but the age of the man and the date...

DON'T ASK ME HOW I GOT THIS SCRIPT, BUT IT IS A GENUINE TRANSCRIPT FROM THE ALL-LEFT-ALL-THE-TIME RADIO NETWORK... [The plucked notes of a banjo are heard and the unmistakable crooning of a deep-south, rural African-American man are heard singing a traditional ballad…] [Over the fading music the host intones:] HOST: "It's as hot and steamy as a Mississippi crawdad boil. The heavy insect hum is as thick and constant as the color of night in this remote corner of the bayou. From the porch of a floating trailer, 127 year old Hound-dog Harold sings back into the night the...

Dear Consumer, Thank you for your recent note regarding remarks made by Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks. It is important for us to hear from our consumers and listen to their concerns. As you can imagine, we did not expect a political controversy to arise when Lipton became a sponsor of the Dixie Chicks upcoming "Top of the World" concert tour. In this time of national crisis, we believe it is important for Americans to come together behind the values of freedom, democracy and tolerance that have made the United States of America into the country it is today....
  • CONFLICT? U of MN Faculty Member - Apparently Wellstone Staffer

E-mail from the acting President of the University of Minnesota | 10/26/02 | Robert H. Bruininks
I hope that this is the correct place for this information. I am curious about the role of paid faculty and campaign activities. I received this email this morning mourning the loss of Mary McEvoy, a professor at the U of MN and, apparently, on of the staffers lost when Wellstone's plane went down. Since this woman was a paid, full-time staffer at a State University, does this present any legal conflicts? Knowing the resourcefulness of FR people, I thought their might be some insights worth exploring. In any event, here is the e-mail text: "Dear University Community, It is...
