Many critics have charged that "The Passion of the Christ" unfairly depicts Jews and whitewashes the Romans. Oh really? Let's see about that. Imagine, in an alternate reality, Jesus is actually a Roman born in a small province of the Jewish Empire. Here is how a movie, based on the same concept as "Passion", on this subject would play out: Romans, not Jews, consists of Jesus' disciples. A Roman, not a Jew, is shown as being hesitant about betraying Christ, who later repents and commits suicide. Jews, not the Romans, are shown flogging Christ for 20 minutes, while Romans, not...

WASHINGTON-President Franklin D. Roosevelt said today that his recently-declared war against Japan in retaliation for Pearl Harbor is not and should not be considered a war against Bushido, the moral code that most of Japan's military follows. "Bushido is a religion of peace." the President said during a speech in the White House rose garden. "It has millions of peaceful followers in Japan and across the world. The 12/7 attacks at Pearl Harbor were the result of a small minority of extremists who have hijacked their faith." The President had similar beliefs in regard to the war against Germany. "Nazism...

,,America should have minded her own business and stayed out of the World War. If you hadn't entered the war the Allies would have made peace with Germany in the Spring of 1917. Had we made peace then there would have been no collapse in Russia followed by Communism, no breakdown in Italy followed by Fascism, and Germany would not have signed the Versailles Treaty, which has enthroned Nazism in Germany. If America had stayed out of the war, all these 'isms' wouldn't today be sweeping the continent of Europe and breaking down parliamentary government - and if England had...

I thought I'd ask everyone who they think is being more willfully blind, or just plain stupid, in regard to terrorism. There is Bush and co. and the Saudis on one side, and Europe's support for the Palestinian Authority (And the Hamas and Hezbollah "welfare" groups) on the other. I'm pretty split on this question. There's tons of evidence we shouldn't be supporting either, so I'll just say they both are.

He also chain smokes and drinks 8...

Aqraba is an Arab village on the west bank of the Jordan River. These stony hills formed the heartland of the Jewish tribes in biblical times. Here they picked their olives, just as the Palestinians would today, if they could. But they cannot, because modern Jews, settled in the hills around them, won't let them. These Jews, from the US, Russia, or Israel, won't let them because they claim the Old Testament as their deed of ownership to the land. They are followers of the fanatical rabbi from Brooklyn, Meir Kahane, who advocated the expulsion ("transfer") of Palestinian Arabs from...

A sign held up in the initial stages of the demonstrations in Kaduna, Nigeria, read "Down with beauty." A strange message from protestors so proud of Islam, a religion and culture that cultivates the aesthetic in almost every aspect of life, that covers everyday surfaces from marble floors to brass hookahs with meticulously detailed ornament, that has created some of the most beautiful buildings and art in human history. Beauty itself is obviously not the issue here: It's a particularly Western kind of beauty, which many don't find beautiful at all. The incomprehensible message is typical of the codes of...

One statistic I've heard quite a bit since 9/11 is that, of all the armed conflicts going on in the world right now, Muslims are involved in all but two or three of them. I've heard wide-ranging numbers for the number of armed conflicts, from 40 to 141. If someone could list each of these conflicts, as well as highlight the ones Muslims are not involved in, that'd be great. I'd just like some clarification for this startling statistic.

Belgian actor Benjamin Verdonck shares an iron cage with a pig in Ghent on November 13, 2002, where he will remain for three days in protest against the rising tensions between the U.S. and Iraq. Verdonck's protest is inspired by another artist who spent a week in a cage with a coyote in an art gallery in 1974. Reuters/Francois Lenoir

JEDDAH, 11 November 2002 — The delegation of American Women for International Understanding (AWIU) has returned to the US after a gruelling but very rewarding two-week visit to Saudi Arabia. Led by Marianne Alireza, the 16 delegates visited Jeddah and Riyadh, making contact with individuals and organizations in the interest of greater understanding and developing strong personal links with Saudis. Martha Atherton, president of the AWIU, described the visiting group as “21 century nomads. We have travelled widely, stopping at oases of culture very different from our own. We made the trip to the Kingdom in the spirit of the...

A dark week for democracy The stranglehold the far Right has now taken on America will make it a more divided, reactionary and illiberal country Will Hutton Sunday November 10, 2002 The Observer The election in Georgia said it all. The Democrat governor, Roy Barnes, had dared to remove the Confederate symbol from the state flag last year. His Republican challenger wanted to bring it back, to honour, he said, 300,000 Confederate 'veterans'. A Republican has not occupied Georgia's governor's mansion since 1872. After last Tuesday, one does, courtesy of wanting to celebrate a civil war fought to defend slavery....

As a freshman at the University of Minnesota, I've witnessed first-hand just how political America's college campuses can be. Since I arrived here two months ago I cannot count how many times I have been bombarded with politcal trash from the left, right, and center. Today being Election Day, though, has made it the most intense yet. Here are my observations: Number of people I've seen encouraging people to vote while endorsing Mondale/Moe (Minnesota's Democratic candidates for Senator and Governer, respectably): 7 Number of people I've seen encouraging people to vote while endorsing Coleman: 0 Number of pro-Mondale or pro-Moe...

ALI: A lot of 'em got careers, working for and with their brothers, but you don't find 'em in no white man's office in downtown New York working behind secretarial desks. Too many black women been used in offices. And not even in bed -- on the floor. We know it because we got office Negroes who've told us this. So we protect our women, 'cause women are the field that produces our nation. And if you can't protect your women, you can't protect your nation. Man, I was in Chicago a couple of months ago and saw a white...

Statement by the President Terrorists have once again targeted innocents this time in Indonesia. At least 182 innocent men and women have been murdered and hundreds injured in a cowardly act designed to create terror and chaos. I offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of all the murder victims from numerous countries and our wish for the swift and complete recovery of those injured in this attack. PARIS (Reuters) - The French government will hike taxes on profits from sexually explicit films to 93 percent as part of an anti-pornography drive by ruling conservatives. This was one of several proposals to fight pornography to emerge from the center-right majority elected in June. Several deputies want to ban X-rated films from television, but others in the conservative ranks oppose this as censorship. "Our aim is to make this sector financially unattractive," right-wing parliament deputy Charles de Courson told Le Figaro daily on Friday after parliament's finance committee agreed his initiative would be applied from January 1 next year....

OTTAWA - An Ontario Liberal MP set off a heated debate in the Commons yesterday for comparing any U.S. attack on Iraq to the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor and Nazi aggression in Europe during the Second World War. And another Liberal backbencher fuelled opposition outrage by describing Iraq before the 1991 Gulf War as "a progressive country." During a debate on Iraq late Monday, Bonnie Brown, the MP for Oakville, suggested a pre-emptive U.S. strike on Saddam Hussein would be akin to the actions of the Japanese empire's attack on Pearl Harbor. Military experts said her grasp of history...

Demonstrators imitating suicide bombers hold up a banner which reads 'NO WAR' as thousands of demonstrators protest in Madrid on Sept. 29, 2002 against a possible U.S.-led military strike on Iraq. U.N. weapons inspectors were to meet on Sunday to prepare for talks with Iraqi officials on details of their return to Baghdad after a nearly four-year break. The Quick And Dirty Leftist's Guide To Arguing Against The War On Terrorism By John Hawkins Some disreputable people have suggested that Right Wing News is for the 'war on terrorism' or that we're 'biased against liberals.' That's why we decided to write 'The Quick And Dirty Leftists Guide To Arguing Against The War On Terrorism' to prove RWN's good intentions. Here are the key arguments lefties...
