  • Spakovsky and Canaparo:California can't pick who runs for president. New law just an attack on Trump

We’re all used to seeing California throw its weight around, but its new law requiring a presidential candidate to provide five years of tax returns to be eligible to appear on a primary ballot is a new low. Now, however, a federal district court judge has blocked the state from enforcing it, at least temporarily. It’s the right decision. The law is nothing more than a political attack on President Donald Trump, the federal elections process, and the right of free association of citizens and all political parties. California is weighing its options, but if it chooses to appeal, the Ninth...

  • Trump to debate Bernie Sanders ahead of California primary?

Pop the corn... Last night during an appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel delivered a question from Bernie Sanders. It’s seems Bernie wanted to know if Trump was willing to attend the now-cancelled debate in which Hillary was too scared to participate. Trump said “yes,” as long as the event generated some money for charity. What exactly constitutes a “nice sum” has not been revealed, but Bernie wasted no time in issuing a response. He’s ready to rumble.

Hypocrisy. As you probably have heard, Hillary has changed her mind and is now opting not to debate Bernie Sander ahead of the California primary. The event was to be held by Fox News, sometime between now and June 7th. Fox is none too pleased, and they issued the following statement: “Naturally, Fox News is disappointed that Secretary Clinton has declined our debate invitation, especially given that the race is still contested and she had previously agreed to a final debate before the California primary.”
  • Neel Kashkari Takes California Republican Governors Race

Neel Kashkari provides Republicans with an excellent opportunity to take the Governors mansion. In California's Tuesday elections, Republican Gubernatorial candidate Neel Kashkari outlasted a stiff challenge from Tim Donnelly to head into a November showdown against incumbent Jerry Brown. In other notable races, former NFL player Damon Dunn fell just short in his bid for the Long Beach Mayor's office, while contraception cover-girl Sandra Fluke appears to be heading a second place finish the 26th District State Assembly race, which will qualify her for Novembers general election. With nearly 99% of all precincts reporting, Kashkari held an apparently insurmountable...
  • California Republicans – You can make History by Voting for Mitt Romney

California Republicans gave us Ronald Reagan. California Republicans gave us a Governor who, in Reagan, made history. But where are these same Republicans today? Will you be willing to count your vote as history in the making - tomorrow? Because, the reality is the race has come down to McCain and Romney. But I am worried. After all, many of my fellow Republicans not only gave us a man of history in Ronald Reagan, but they have also given our Nation another Republican Governor named Arnold. Every vote counts. Today, in retrospect, do fellow Republicans of our Great State accept...
  • Super Tuesday Super State [primer on California primary]

With the largest bloc of Super Tuesday delegates in both parties, California is enjoying a flash of political significance. Many Americans know the state only through our Hollywood celebrities and natural disasters. (There is a lot of overlap between the two.) Accordingly, it’s useful to list several things that everyone should remember about California politics. First, for many Californians, the election has already ended. In the 2006 gubernatorial primary, mail ballots accounted for nearly half the vote. This time, we may see a similar postal surge, amounting to some four million votes. And as of last week, officials reckon, 2.3...
  • Zogby: Romney Leads In California

You can pick your polls and the result, but with the largest sampling, Reuters/Zogby now has Romney over McCain by 3 in California. California assigns delegates by district. Romney's been pushing for a split there. Zogby is less optimistic on Romney in Missouri, while other polls show the race tightening to 3 - 4 points. Missouri is winner take all, with 58 delegates. The polls are split on the margin for McCain. Three things may be working against McCain completely breaking away right now. As Mona Charen points out, rather than looking like a gracious front runner, he's been showing...

Here is the message I heard this afternoon. Hi, this is Senator John McCain. I'm calling today to personally ask for your vote and make a pledge to you. As your president, I promise to lead our nation and our party as a Ronald Reagan conservative. I'll lower your taxes, veto wasteful government spending, and ensure our party returns to the smaller government principles on which it began. I'll secure our border first before pursuing any other immigration reform. I'll appoint conservative judges like justices Alito and Roberts. I will protect the sanctity of life; I have a 24-year record...

Arizona Sen. John McCain's presidential aspirations stand to suffer a stunning setback if California Republicans carry out a plan to move part of their nomination process up from June to Feb. 5 next year. "If the California Republican Party approves this idea, it may benefit candidates other than John McCain," Orange County state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore told The Times. The proposal backed by DeVore calls for the 1,600 members of the state Republican Central Committee to select at least 53 of their 165 delegates to the Republican National Convention at the party's regularly scheduled February convention. An alternative plan being...

Pro-gun State Senator Rico Oller is running in the Republican Primary in California's 3rd Congressional District, a seat being vacated by anti-gun Rep. Doug Ose. This district is heavily Republican, so the next congressman could very well be determined in the March 2nd...
