Liberal college students have once again illustrated their never-ending quest for tolerance and their vast ability to think critically about ideas in opposition to their own. Yes, I’m talking about yet another pie-throwing incident involving a conservative speaker on a college campus. The latest chapter in this pathetic story took place at Butler University on Wednesday, April 6. Conservative activist and President of the Center for the Study of Popular Culture David Horowitz was early in his lecture at Butler when he was struck with a pie. “There’s a wave of violence on college campuses, committed by what I’d call...

In regard to "Court rules colleges may bar recruiters" [News, Nov. 30]: It seems that the military of this nation hasn't the right to recruit or inform on federally funded campuses, per the ruling of the third U.S. Court of Appeals. The court explained that educational institutions have a First Amendment right to keep military recruiters off their campuses to protest the Defense Department policy of excluding gays from military service. This decision relied on a 2000 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court concerning the Boy Scouts not allowing gays as scoutmasters. The last I heard, the Boy Scouts of...

WE LOVE TO PUT TURKEY INTO OUR MOUTHS each Thanksgiving. But why do we find this odd word “turkey” in our mouths, in our vocabulary? Finding this answer brings us to a smorgasbord of history, politics and culture that gives added savor to most of the foods of this Thursday’s feast. “About 1530, a new dish began to be put on English tables,” writes one cultural historian, “a fowl a little larger than the traditional goose, but with a lot more meat and a refreshingly new taste. “This bird,” the historian continues, “had been brought to England by merchants trading...

FBI: Hate Crimes Against JewsOutstrip Crimes Against Muslims 9-to-1 By Andrew L. Jaffee, November 15, 2003 Home Search Forum Terms The FBI reported that there were 931 hate crimes committed against Jews in 2002, while 155 were committed against Muslims. Anti-Jewish incidents decreased only slightly from 2001, but anti-Muslim incidents fell sharply from 481. The good news is that the overall count of hate crimes decreased about 25 percent from 2001 to 2002. The bad news is that hate crimes against Jews held almost steady. This is further evidence that anti-Semitism, especially in the context of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, has become a...

When Ross Neihaus exited his chemistry class three days after the start of UCLA’s fall quarter, he saw the words "Anti-Zionist and Proud" scrawled in chalk on the wall of an adjacent building. Such a statement coming so early in the quarter was a surprise to the fourth-year biology major, but not a shock. "I expect this to be my toughest year in college," said Neihaus, the president of Bruins for Israel, UCLA’s pro-Israel group. "We are concerned that what will be said this year will be nastier, more radical and essentially more anti-Semitic." Like Neihaus, many pro-Israel students and...

Ridiculous man-hating lesbiansMike S. Adams (archive) June 9, 2003 | Print | Send Dear Women's Studies Professor:I recently read the comments you made to a local newspaper during Womyn's Herstory Month (WHM), which, I believe, used to be referred to as "March." It may surprise you to know that I agree with your assertion that the university used bad judgement in sponsoring a concert by the rapper Ludacris during WHM. I don't think there is ever a good time to have the rapper sing about "bi***es" and "hos" in the name of campus diversity.I also agreed when you told the...

Islamic Radicals On CampusBy Erick StakelbeckFrontPageMagazine.com | April 23, 2003 The Constitution of the Muslim Student's Association of the U.S. and Canada (MSA) states that the organization’s major purpose is "to serve the best interest of Islam and Muslims in the United States and Canada so as to enable them to practice Islam as a complete way of life." The truth, however, is something far less benign. Although it presents itself as a benevolent, faith-based campus organization, the MSA in reality serves as a North American base for Saudi-funded Islamic extremism. Created in 1963 (the University of Illinois hosted the...

As a former 'radical,' I see the threat of militant Islam on American campuses http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | When I was a college radical and anti-war activist forty years ago, I was quite the intellectual and (in my estimation) cautious and sober. Though I became an editor and then co-editor of the leading radical magazine of the Sixties, Ramparts, I never threw a rock during the entire era. I never joined a radical sect and never went to Communist Cuba or North Vietnam, which were then the meccas of the radical faith. Although I was a founder of an organization called the...
