    A German court in Hessen ruled Tuesday that night flights will be banned at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) when the fourth runway opens Oct. 21 (ATW Daily News, Oct. 5). The ban, which runs from 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., will affect 17 movements of mainly cargo flights. Lufthansa Cargo, which operates 11 scheduled nighttime slots, is expecting considerable financial damage from the night ban as it must now reschedule or cancel several flights beginning with the winter schedule. Resident complaints of aircraft noise from nearby Russelsheim and Offenbach were the reason for the court ruling. During the summer season, FRA...

    A airplane passenger stole $238,000 during a flight in the Caribbean by sneaking into the cargo hold that was loaded with cash through the bathroom. The unnamed man complained of feeling unwell at the start of the flight and spent most of it in the bathroom. He was, in fact, removing panels separating the toilet and the cargo hold, according to reports. A Brink's security employee had placed three sacks of cash containing a total $1.6million in the hold of the Air Antilles plane before it took off from the French island of Guadeloupe, Fox News reported. {snip}

    As Congress begins consideration of the FY 2011 Defense Appropriations bill, the US Project On Government Oversight (POGO) hopes that they will support the Pentagon and President by passing such waste-reduction initiatives as an amendment to strip funding for unneeded C-17 cargo planes. The Pentagon has repeatedly stated that they have no use for new C-17 aircraft, and that their current fleet is substantial and sufficient. This claim is confirmed by the Pentagon's most recent completed analysis for air transport needs, the 2005 Mobility Capability Study, which stated that 180 C-17s are all that are necessary within an acceptable measure...
