ATLANTA A murder suspect who held police at bay on a construction crane for 56 hours is facing new charges. Carl Roland has been released from an Atlanta hospital, where he was taken after the siege ended Saturday. Police zapped Roland with a Taser when he asked for a drink of water. He was then lowered to the ground from the 350-foot crane and transported to an area hospital. Roland was wanted for murder in Florida. Authorities suspect him in the death of a former girlfriend. Now, Georgia authorities are adding charges of criminal trespassing, reckless conduct and first-degree criminal...

A Florida murder suspect began his second morning Friday atop a 25-story crane over Peachtree Street, dangling his feet and bringing the center of Buckhead to a standstill. As the sun rose, police banged on the side of the crane and sounded sirens in an effort to keep Carl Edward Roland awake. Far below, workers began arriving in hopes of resuming construction of the 19-story condominium. Elton Taylor, an electrician from Mableton who was sent home without work on Thursday, drove in Friday morning hoping work could resume. "Looks like it's not," he said. "This is starting to affect my...

ATLANTA - A homicide suspect who spent 56 hours perched on an 18-story construction crane was in custody early Saturday after police climbed the structure and arrested him, authorities said. "Apparently, he was thirsty," police spokesman Sgt. John Quigley said. The man, identified as Carl Edward Roland, got onto the crane around 5 p.m. Wednesday and told police he was thinking of killing himself by jumping, Quigley said. Shortly after his arrest, police were still trying to determine how to get him down. "I'm not sure if he's coming willingly or if we have to strap him to something," Quigley...

ATLANTA - A homicide suspect remained perched on an 18-story construction crane for a third day Friday, holding police at bay and causing a spectacle in the heart of the city's entertainment district. A plea from his sister, offers of food and a plan to have him jump onto air bags hadn't resolved the standoff. The man, identified as Carl Edward Roland, got onto the crane around 5 p.m. Wednesday and told police he was thinking of killing himself by jumping, police spokesman Sgt. John Quigley said. "When he's ready to come down, he'll come down — one way or...
