In the 8th century before Christ, the Prophet Isaiah wrote (7:14): "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." The Gospel of Matthew, 1:20-23, relates: "The angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from...

Abstract Sepsis is a devastating disease that carries an enormous toll in terms of human suffering and lives lost. Over 100 novel pharmacologic agents that targeted specific molecules or pathways have failed to improve the outcome of sepsis. Preliminary data suggests that the combination of Hydrocortisone, Ascorbic Acid and Thiamine (HAT therapy) may reduce organ failure and mortality in patients with sepsis and septic shock. HAT therapy is based on the concept that a combination of readily available, safe and cheap agents, which target multiple components of the host’s response to an infectious agent, will synergistically restore the dysregulated immune...

Bah Humbug. Bah Ha-Ha. Bah Horror. When it comes to Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol,” how do you like your Scrooge served? Are you partial to the dramatic British version starring Alastair Sim, which has brought a tear to many a viewer’s eyes? Or maybe you prefer your Scrooge spiked with a dose of merry mischief like Bill Murray delivers in “Scrooged.” “A Christmas Carol” performed by puppets never fails to charm, as evidenced by the huge popularity of “The Muppet Christmas Carol.” It’s hard to resist the scenery-chewing Scrooges of George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart in their respective...

United States Attorney John H. Durham has kept such a low profile while handling some of the country's most infamous criminal investigations that he once made New Republic magazine's list of Washington's "most powerful, least famous people." Durham "made his bones," as he would say, prosecuting mobsters, corrupt federal agents and former Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland. He's been tapped by United States attorneys general to investigate topics as touchy as alleged torture and coverups during CIA investigations. The 67-year-old Groton resident, nominated as Connecticut's top federal prosecutor by President Donald Trump and endorsed by Republicans and Democrats alike, has...

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade County now has 14 cases of confirmed dengue fever this year. The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County issued a mosquito-borne illness alert Monday afternoon after two Miami-Dade residents came down with symptoms. The latest cases were locally acquired and are linked to a travel-related case previously reported, according to the DOH-Miami-Dade. Dengue is spread through mosquito bites through the Aedes mosquitoes which also spread chikungunya and the Zika virus. Though rarely fatal, those that develop symptoms recover in about a week.

Philadelphia Eagles fans have a special kind of passion. As a result, Chris Christie's love for the Cowboys—and all the other reasons not to like the ex-New Jersey governor—made him the perfect target for hecklers.

Charles Schulz, the award-winning creator of the Peanuts comic strip going back to 1950, was a devoted Christian who included the gospel in more than 560 of his 17,800 creations. One of the most recognizable examples of his theological messages is packaged in A Charlie Brown Christmas television special that has aired annually for 54 years. On December 9, 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas first appeared on television screens at 7:30 p.m. ET throughout America. The special was a collaboration between Schulz, producer Lee Mendelson, and director Bill Melendez, with a music score by Vince Guaraldi. The reviews were outstanding....

With the Ukraine inquiry complete and the ink long dry on their 300-page report on the matter, Democrats find themselves in a complicated position next year. It’s the day after Adam Schiff made one last speech on the floor of the House of Representatives arguing that Donald Trump must be impeached. The California Democrat was back at work, headed to the secure room underneath the U.S. Capitol where, over the course of the last three months, his House Intelligence Committee conducted its impeachment investigation. The inquiry shaped charges that Trump abused his power by pressuring Ukraine to do him political...

So, this has become an annual thread. Each year I hope to find that special someone and each year, around this time, I realize that I may have to wait another year. But, I can't complain. Life is good. I made a sweet potato pie from scratch and will share it with the family tomorrow at our Christmas dinner. I'm 59 years-old and have been blessed to have spent every Christmas with my parents? How many people can say that? But, tonight it's just me, George Bailey on Bluray, some beautiful sacred Christmas music on SiriusXM Holiday Pops and a...

According to LA Key, who led President Trump’s campaign regionally in the must-win state of Florida, a staunch advocate of President Donald J. Trump paid off over a dozen layaway accounts at an Orlando branch of Burlington. “He is a humble and very private man. All I can say is that he is working hard to re-elect President Trump and felt like doing something kind in his honor this Christmas. Amid all of the negative impeachment craziness and attacks on the America First movement, it is nice to see some positivity during Christmastime.” Key told TGP that the man didn’t...

What you do can make you extremely likable. So can what you don’t choose to do. 1. They don’t blame. 2. They don’t control. 3. They don’t try to impress. 4. They don’t cling. 5. They don’t interrupt. 6. They don’t whine. 7. They don’t criticize. 8. They don’t preach. 9. They don’t live in the past. 10. They don’t let fear hold them back.

The Trump campaign on Christmas Eve launched a website full of talking points intended to help supporters of the president win arguments with "that liberal snowflake relative." Featuring videos on topics from the economy to immigration and attacks on the media, snowflakevictory.com seeks to provide pro-Trump tidbits that can be brought to the holiday dinner table. "Family holidays. Full of love. Full of laughter. And full of the inevitable conversations with the family liberal who just does not want to believe how great America is doing with President Trump in office," according to the website.

Every member of the eleven-person council has progressive political ideologies, something that’s made clear by the accessories many of them wear inspired by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Austin City Council Members are nonpartisan in that they don’t run as Democrats or Republicans. A city spokesperson pointed KXAN toward the Texas Election Code which indicates that all local governments in Texas run nonpartisan elections by default, Austin just hasn’t chosen to authorize partisan candidacy... Council Member Allison Alter added that the RBG accessories were, “one small way to show solidarity amongst ourselves.” Alter also pointed out that many...

To guide the McCain, Bordeaux relied upon a navigation system the Navy considered a triumph of technology and thrift. It featured slick black touch screens to operate the ship’s wheel and propellers. It knit together information from radars and digital maps. It would save money by requiring fewer sailors to safely steer the ship. Bordeaux felt confident using the system to control the speed and heading of the ship. But there were many things he did not understand about the array of dials, arrows and data that filled the touch screen. “There was actually a lot of functions on there...

For many millions, it is as integral a part of Christmas Day as roast turkey, mince pies and exchanging presents. Tomorrow, families all over Britain will gather around the television at 3pm to watch the Queen's annual message. It is always one of the most watched programmes on TV and this year, with Her Majesty's acknowledgement of the 'bumpy' path the Royal Family and the nation has experienced in the past 12 months, it is likely to be more compelling viewing than ever. After so many broadcasts the Queen, of course, is comfortably familiar in front of the camera, but...
