Loyal readers will recall that I warned last year of the perfect storm approaching on gun control. Now, with the Tucson tragedy as a stepping stone, and with eyes firmly focused on his re-election, the president has finally opened a campaign to appease his base on the polarizing issue of gun control. Let me completely disclose my position: I am a strong Second Amendment advocate. I believe in protecting our fundamental rights, including our Second Amendment rights, through the political process. To that end, I serve as honorary chairman of the "Trigger the Vote" voter registration campaign. That campaign is...

Ben-Gal Laura Vikmanis. (Bengals.com) The NFL's oldest cheerleader just scored a movie deal with New Line. Laura Vikmanis shakes pom poms and does high kicks at the ripe old age of 42 for the lowly Cincinnati Bengals. A team so bad the last couple of years she was probably the most interesting thing to watch on the field. New Line obviously thinks so, as they have picked up the rights to her story, and assigned writers whose credits include "Gnomeo and Juliet" and "Ratatouille," the Hollywood Reporter reports. After her husband left her for a younger woman, she told her...

This weekend's Super Bowl clash between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers will be the first in the game's 45 year history sans cheerleaders. The Packers and the Steelers are two of the six NFL teams that do not have pom-pom squads, and they haven’t had them in years. The Packers did away with their cheerleaders in 1988 after market research indicated fans didn’t really care, and in 1970 it was an “organizational decision” to dissolve the Steelerettes.

Heaven must be missin’ an angel, Missin’ one angel, child, ’cause … she’s with the NFL now? As uncanny as it sounds, THR reports that Victoria’s Secret angel and former SI Swimsuit model Marisa Miller has signed on to be the new face of the NFL. Miller, a die-hard San Francisco sports fan, was recruited specifically to promote the upcoming game between the 49ers and Broncos in London this Halloween. While the NFL is rather blatantly using Miller’s looks to attract viewers (much like this slideshow), we commend them for choosing a supermodel who’s actually a sports fan. Here’s a...

The United States, including Lakers star Lamar Odom, blew out Iran score-wise in the basketball game between the two teams in the FIBA World Championship in Istanbul on Wednesday with an 88-51 victory over the Islamic Republic. But Iran may have won a smaller victory. It may have prompted the otherwise lightly clad Ukrainian cheerleaders to dress a little more conservatively for the game. Patrick Baumann, secretary-general of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), said "special arrangements" had been made prior to the game on Wednesday regarding the dancers' outfits to respect cultural sensitivities, reported Reuters. "It is a balance between...

FORT WORTH,- Officials with a Texas school district said a group of high school cheerleaders was disciplined for giving urine-tainted drinks to teammates. Administrators said at least two girls at Fort Worth's Saginaw High School received in-school suspensions and an unspecified number of their fellow cheerleaders received lesser punishments for serving sodas contaminated with a cheerleader's urine to their teammates during a basketball game late last year, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday. District officials said Principal Ric Canterbury began an investigation after hearing rumors about the incident. They said the girls involved in the prank will be barred from...

The American late-night icon Jay Leno will be welcoming Sarah Palin on the second night of his comeback week. Whether you like Palin or not she and Leno will be entering into millions of American homes on Tuesday night as The Tonight Show re-launches with its old host. The howls from her political and social detractors who feel that maybe, just maybe, this political dynamo just might have the right stuff to stir a nation much in the same way that Ronald Reagan – another down-home governor – convinced the doubters and naysayers of his rugged commitment to a new...

Yep, a vanity. About Cheerleaders and Facebook Cheerleaders. OK, Facebook fluff. EXCEPT. . . They're in a challenge, and if they can get another ~2200 fans on Facebook, TODAY, their sponsor will donate $5K to a military charity chosen by the Cheerleaders. So I'm requesting your support here, and your asking your networks to support them as well. It's all good, and it's for the Troops in the end. . . All you need to do is friend them on Facebook. Link above, and link right here: FB USA Cheerleaders Page Now, back to your regularly scheduled FR. . .

The only problem with Democrats falling to the ground and playing the victim over people noticing that their policies don't work is that their lame "Bush did it too" excuse holds no water. Bush read Richard Reid his "rights" because he had no other choice...

Before she made it into a White House state dinner without an official invitation, Michaele Salahi made it onto the Redskins alumni cheerleading squad -- without ever having been a Redskins cheerleader. Salahi performed at FedEx Field during halftime of the Redskins-St. Louis Rams game Sept. 20 with a group of 150 former Redskins cheerleaders. Salahi's rehearsals with the group were filmed by a crew that has been following Michaele Salahi and her husband, Tareq, for possible inclusion on a cable TV reality show, "The Real Housewives of D.C." Several former cheerleaders said in interviews that Michaele Salahi's presence at...

A sad story out of Virginia, where a 25-year-old woman, who was training to be a Washington Redskins cheerleader, has come down with a rare neurological disorder days after receiving a seasonal flu vaccination. Now she can hardly walk forward without severe contortions or speak normally. But amazingly, she can walk backwards, run forward and speak just fine as long as she's running. The question is, did the flu shot cause this? Watch the story from Inside Edition: VIDEO AT LINK

Despite a large public outcry over its decision to censor Bible verse banners held by high school football cheerleaders on the playing field, a Georgia school board is refusing to change its mind. However, the controversial policy has compelled many students to passionately defend their free-speech rights and proclaim their Christian beliefs.

The Warriors of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High took the field on Friday night without any Bible verses written on the cheerleaders' banner. Instead, the football team ran through a banner that read "This is Big Red Country" before each bent on a knee to pray on the field of Tommy Cash Stadium. The spirited display comes after the school district banned the banners last week over concerns they were unconstitutional and could provoke a lawsuit, angering many in the deeply religious north Georgia town of Fort Oglethorpe. "I'm just kind of unnerved about it," said 18-year-old Cassandra Cooksey, a recent graduate...

Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Unveil 2010 Swimsuit Calendar August 7, 2009 By Andy Kent MiamiDolphins.com Friday night on South Beach got about as hot as it could get - literally and figuratively when the 2009 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders took to the runway in the courtyard of Casa Casuarina, formerly the Versace Mansion, for a fashion show and the unveiling of the 2010 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar. Monica Mason, Johanna Torres, Amy Madill and Fabiola Romero graced the cover of the new calendar and none of them knew that until the cover was unfurled from the balcony above...

Just don't call him professor pom-pom. A physics professor who says he'll do "anything" to get people interested in science is teaming up with the Philadelphia 76ers cheerleaders to offer online lessons on magnetics, mass and matter — all through the magic of miniskirts. James Trefil's 20-year campaign for science literacy has led him to link up with some unlikely allies at ScienceCheerleader.com, where he and a scantily clad crew of dancing Darwins offer 18 video lessons on core ideas in science. Trefil, who's left behind his classroom for the summer to help on the Brain Makeover videos, said it...
