OAKLAND -- An ebullient Mayor-elect Ron Dellums today embraced voters' endorsement of his vision to make the city a model, saying he will soon set up citizen groups to help him deal with the city's public schools, crime, economic development and other issues when he takes office Jan. 1. "It is a responsibility I accept with honor, humility and optimism," the progressive former congressman, 70, said at a news conference that was his first public appearance since the June 6 election. "We can solve the problems of Oakland. We can be a great city." His chief opponent in the race...

From: "CNY Latino - Hugo" To: "Jon Alvarez" Subject: Pidiendo ayuda, por favor... Date: Tue, 2 May 2006 13:42:43 -0400 Hi: I have prepared this generic note, to selected people that have frequent communication with my monthly “bilingual” publication, and that also I think they might have influences and/or connections with business owners, key people in large organizations, distinguished people, or simply know "somebody" that could help us keep the CNY Latino newspaper alive... We are going through some financial difficulties; advertisement (the ONLY source of income for this publication) has been very low for the last four months (4...

All Access confirms Malloy will not be getting cleared in New York but not because of ABC's "The Satellite Sisters." Inner City Broadcasting, owner of WLIB, is reclaiming Malloy's hours and will be broadcasting Caribbean music. WLIB had a full-time Caribbean format (with somewhat better numbers)prior to AAR's launch and has continued to broadcast Caribbean programming during the overnight hours (AAR has leased the station from 5 am to 12 midnight). The third hour of Mallow's show has never been cleared in New York. So, far the Satellite Sisters weekday show airs only on XM Radio (12 pm to 3...

More troubles are emerging at The Source, the one-time bible of the hip-hop music industry. Paychecks were bouncing two weeks ago, and the 50 or so staffers did not get the new paychecks that were slated to turn up before Christmas. The office was closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 26 — so staffers went without pay for the holidays. Company president and sometime-rapper Ray "Benzino" Scott is still said to be in sunny Miami, where he has spent the past few weeks. The firm's founder and chairman, David Mays, who recently returned to New York from Miami, hung up on...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush edged closer to victory Wednesday against Sen. John Kerry in a roiling contest that came down to a heart-stopper in the heartland, a battle over Ohio. Disheartened Kerry aides met to evaluate his options, with concession the talk of the day. Nothing was settled or conceded in the first light of day, but Kerry faced a daunting task trying to deny Bush an electoral majority that was almost within reach. The Democrat's campaign planned a statement by midday, advisers said. Two of them, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Kerry's concession seemed simply a matter...

Even by the chaotic standards of a new media company, Air America Radio's first two months of broadcasting have been convulsive. The fledgling talk-radio network has replaced five top executives, been taken off the air in two of its top three markets and lost several crucial producers. By late April, current and former executives said last week, the company was perilously close to running out of money. It has since received an infusion of cash, though it has not disclosed how much or from whom.

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! Good morning!! Remember the Trade Center!!
