The prospect of gently dozing off while taunting victims right-to-the-end is hardly an effective deterrent... The death penalty is currently a legal sentence in 33 American states and in the federal civilian and military legal systems. Lethal injection has become the most common method of capital punishment utilized since SCOTUS re-enstated the death penalty in 1976, popularity owed to the theory it's the most 'humane' method available... but humane to whom? Not society, the victims, nor their families, that's for sure... Case-in-point being yesterday's execution of Richard Cobb (29) in Texas: he and his crime partner Beunka Adams (righteously executed April 2012) went on...

I don't think anyone in sports history ever got more of his talent than Pete Rose, he played 24 seasons, won 4 batting titles, led NL in hits 7 times in an average man's body without great speed or power.

Pregame ceremonies to commemorate Rose's 4,192nd career hit, which surpassed Ty Cobb on the all-time list on Sept. 11, 1985, begin at 6:30 p.m. ET -- 40 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. Republicans seized another Democratic seat in the state House tonight in the special election to succeed Rep. Curt Cobb. Trucking company owner Pat Marsh beat Cobb's brother, Ty, handily by a vote of 4,931 to 3,663. That gives Republicans a 51-48 advantage in the House and makes it that much harder for Tennessee's beleaguered Democrats to return to power in the high-stakes 2010 elections. Democrats poured everything they had into this race to hold this seat. Many observers described the election as a bellwether for 2010, a strong indication of just how much Barack Obama's unpopularity here might hurt Democrats...

A fissure in Cobb County's relations with its Hispanic community has widened in recent days amid sparring between Cobb and Hispanic leaders. The head of an organization that represents Latino politicians statewide quit the Cobb County Hispanic/Latino Initiative, saying the county has shown a "consistent lack of open, honest and transparent dialog" on issues affecting the Hispanic community.Commission Chairman Sam Olens responded that advocates for the Hispanic community are making the county's actions a "racial'' issue by implying that new rules are targeted at Hispanics. One new ordinance limits the number of adults who can live in a house.

MARIETTA - Cobb police have arrested six Hispanic men for manufacturing identification documents at Twelve Oaks Apartments on Austell Road in an undercover sting that authorities expect will lead to more arrests. Because the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are pending, police did not release information about the Oct. 25 arrests until Tuesday. Agents from the Marietta-Cobb-Smyrna Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant for an apartment at 8 p.m. Oct. 25 and walked in on a "large operation," Cobb Police Department spokesman Officer Wayne Delk said. Officers seized about 1,300 photographs, 217 completed identification cards, various...

WASHINGTON, April 25 — The Central Intelligence Agency on Tuesday defended the firing of Mary O. McCarthy, the veteran officer who was dismissed last week, and challenged her lawyer's statements that Ms. McCarthy never provided classified information to the news media. But intelligence officials would not say whether they believed that Ms. McCarthy had been a source for a Pulitzer Prize-winning series of articles in The Washington Post about secret C.I.A. detention centers abroad. Media accounts have linked Ms. McCarthy's firing to the articles, but the C.I.A. has never explicitly drawn such a connection (snip) A C.I.A. spokeswoman, Jennifer Millerwise...

ROYSTON, Ga. (AP) -- While gazing at one of the exhibits in the Ty Cobb Museum, a visitor overhears a discussion about the many sides of the Georgia Peach. A dirty player or a fierce competitor? A despicable racist or a generous philanthropist? The visitor jumps into the debate with someone from a different sport, a different time, but the analogy seems to work. ``He's like Dale Earnhardt,'' said Ralph Nix, who stopped by the museum while in this northeast Georgia town on business. ``Half the people cheered him. Half the people booed him. That's just the way it is...

Greens condemn bipartisan support for the Real ID Act and Iraq occupation appropriations.WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party leaders claimed that Democrats are supporting some of the most damaging and extreme agenda of the Republican Party, citing the unanimous Senate vote to institute a national identity card for all Americans."We're moving towards a one-party system, with Democrats rubberstamping most Republican legislation," said David Cobb, the Green Party's 2004 presidential candidate.Senate Democrats and Republicans, unanimously and virtually without debate, approved the 'Real ID Act.' TROUBLE SPEAK Ward Churchill copied 'original' art piece Takes a swing at TV reporter who confronted him -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: February 26, 2005 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2005 WorldNetDaily.com Professor Ward Churchill Adding to a growing list of allegations, controversial University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill appears to have violated copyright law by claiming a reknowned artist's work as his own. Churchill, whose integrity has been challenged since news broke earlier last month of his paper blaming victims of 9-11 for the attacks, made an Indian-theme serigraph in 1981 called "Winter Attack" and printed 150 copies. But one of the buyers,...

Ward Hill as a member of the schismatic Boulder/Denver branch of AIM [American Indian Movement] as spent his whole life trashing the FBI and police. Here is what he said in his "Roosting Chickens" article. He is an anarchist who publishes his books through anarchist publishers. He wants to trash our law enforcement and intelligence organizations so that we will be destroyed. He doesn't want to make them better. He want the USA off the planet. He has often depicted the FBI and CIA as terrorist organizations.

The 2004 election cycle was the first time in North Carolina history that State election officials counted out-of-precinct provisional ballots," Wainwright wrote. "To permit unlawful votes to be counted along with lawful ballots in contested elections effectively `disenfranchises' those voters who cast legal ballots." The decision also cited numerous state statutes and election regulations specifically requiring voters to cast their ballots only in the precincts where they reside. Election officials are also instructed by law and regulations to assist voters in casting legal ballots. "It is indeed unfortunate that the statutorily unauthorized actions of the State Board of Elections denied...

Osama bin Laden tried to purchase the world's largest pearl, the Pearl of Allah, as a gift to Saddam Hussein "to unite the Arab cultures," and Hussein was prepared to accept, according to the pearl's owner. Victor Barbish, who owns sixty-six percent of the pearl on behalf of his daughter, told WorldNetDaily he received an offer in 1999 from individuals who said they were "from bin Laden's group" to purchase the pearl for $60 million to give to Hussein as an overture of unity between al-Qaida and the Iraqi government.

Last updated: January 15. 2005 12:02PM The state's second-most-powerful Democrat says fellow party member Britt Cobb should concede defeat in the still unresolved race for agriculture commissioner. "I personally believe that the people have already settled it - that they voted for (Steve) Troxler and he should be commissioner," Senate president pro tem Marc Basnight told the Winston-Salem Journal. Cobb trails Troxler, a Republican, by 2,287 votes out of more than 3.3 million cast. But because a voting machine error in Carteret County resulted in 4,438 ballots being lost, the State Board of Elections has twice ordered new elections. Both...

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Two third-party presidential candidates asked a federal court Thursday to force a second recount of the Ohio vote, alleging county election boards altered votes and didn't follow proper procedures in the recount that ended this week. Lawyers for Green Party candidate David Cobb and the Libertarian Party's Michael Badnarik made their request in federal court in Columbus. The two candidates, who received less than 0.3 percent of the Ohio vote, paid $113,600 for a statewide recount after the vote was certified earlier this month by the secretary of state. They have said they don't expect to...

With Ohio inching toward a final recount that trimmed a few hundred votes from President Bush's six-figure margin, elections officials said electronic voting systems worked as promised. But critics were unconvinced. With recount results reported in 86 of 88 counties Tuesday, President Bush picked up 438 votes and Sen. John Kerry gained 680, narrowing Bush's 119,000-vote lead by 242 votes, according to an Associated Press survey.
