WASHINGTON — Simplicity Inc., a supplier of baby furniture to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) and other big retailers, is recalling about 1 million Chinese-made baby cribs which have been linked to at least two infant deaths, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday. The drop-side can detach from the crib, which can create a dangerous gap that leads to an infant being trapped and suffocated, the safety agency said in a statement. It urged parents to check all Simplicity-made cribs to ensure the drop-side is installed correctly. The cribs, priced between $100 and $300, were sold by U.S. retailers...

After the deaths of a 6-month old and a 9-month old child, Simplicity has announced the recall of about 1 million cribs sold under its name or with Graco branding. A news release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the drop-side can detach, leaving a gap that can trap and suffocate infants. In the deaths, the side panel was installed upside down. CPSC said it knew of seven other entrapments and 55 other incidents related to the problem. It is investigating the death of a 1-year-old with newer hardware in which the side was also put in...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- About one million Chinese-made, Simplicity brand cribs are being recalled after three infants died and seven were trapped when the drop side of cribs detached causing a dangerous gap, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Failures in the crib's drop side are due to a combination of hardware and design flaws that allow consumers to unintentionally install the drop side upside down. This installation could weaken the hardware and cause the drop side to detach from the crib, creating a gap that could lead to the entrapment and suffocation of infants.

Slowdown in residential building and home sales will be felt throughout the economy; weaker jobs and consumer spending expectedNEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - You don't need to be in the market to buy or sell a home to be affected by the cooling housing market. [Everybody studies home sales] * * * because the sector has lifted * * * consumer spending and economic activity. This week has brought several new readings indicating that the super-heated real estate market of 2004 and 2005 is rapidly fading in the rearview mirror. Housing starts and building permits were down sharply in April, and...
