The Supreme Court has struck down a federal law that banned sports betting in almost every state across the country, handing former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) a major win to bolster his legacy. New Jersey has been fighting since 2010 to make sports wagering legal at racetracks and casinos in the state, but had repeatedly been blocked by the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992. The Court ruled 7-2 that PASPA’s provisions prohibiting states from authorizing and licensing a sports gabling scheme violates the anti-commandeering rule. In delivering the opinion of the court, Justice Samuel Alito...

Donald Trump said Wednesday that would have room for Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) in his presidential administration. "[He is] a very good guy," Trump said when asked about the fellow presidential candidate, according to NBC News. "There could certainly be a place for him," he added when a questioner floated Christie as Trump's potential running mate in 2016. Trump was appearing in Manchester, N.H. for one of the Granite State's Politics & Eggs events. NBC News said Wednesday that the business mogul addressed a wide range of policy issues. Among the topics he discussed were education, immigration and even the...

It’s the skinny half of this duo. Nice of the media to hold Christie accountable for causing traffic problems, but the guy in a clinch with him shut down the road to Mount Rushmore, barricaded multiple memorials, forcibly shut down private parks and even private restaurants at gunpoint.

Given that Texas Gov. Rick Perry plans to announce his presidential candidacy tomorrow, my ears have been especially perked for mentions of his name out here in Iowa. So far, he’s only come up a couple of times, but those comments — not surprisingly — suggest Iowans, at least, feel slighted at his decision to skip the debate and straw poll. They don’t seem to feel obligated to welcome him here when he arrives on Sunday, either.Yesterday, for example, at a pre-debate event hosted by The Heritage Foundation, Rep. Steve King told us he thinks Perry’s decision to declare in...

The results of last weeks' Reaganite Republican GOP Frontrunners Poll are in... Each reader was asked to chose the top five Republican candidates for the 2012 nomination, and our sample size of 1000+ votes provides a truly meaningful result... Clearly, the field is pretty wide-open at this point- 'Cuda won it comfortably, but with a three-way tie for second and the rest of the votes spread around the field... even Blago got 4 votes, hope they were just joking, lol. And surprisingly, Pawlenty and Jindal didn't make much of a showing, either... 1 Sarah Palin 17% 2 Jim DeMint 9%...

The prognostication, pro and con, about a possible Chris Christie 2012 candidacy is popping all over the place. Glenn Reynolds says we could do worse (and probably will). Conservative American likes Christie’s blunt, direct talk. Winning attributes of a presidential candidate depend keenly on those of his (or her . . .) predecessor. Blunt, direct talk may not fly in every quadrennial contest, but in 2012, after four very long years of professorial obfuscation and liberal double-speak, the freshness of classic American plain talk might be just what the doctor ordered. Fellow Virginia blogger Garrett Watson at On The Right...
