The stock market ditched Wall Street years ago. The masters of the universe, like the Giants and Jets, now scrimmage across the Hudson River in New Jersey—their trading these days done almost entirely by computers piping algorithmic playbooks into a fortress of servers in Mahwah and other competing exchanges nearby. The small squads of human traders who remain on the floor at 11 Wall St., the New York Stock Exchange’s Teddy Roosevelt–era headquarters, are (for the most part) just playing fantasy football. Yet just as the Big Apple’s football teams kept their New York names after wedding themselves to the...

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Should malls and stores ban the carrying of firearms? Connecticut’s two U.S. Senators are calling on the nation’s retailers to voluntarily ban guns in the name of public safety. A new FBI report indicates that there is an ‘active shooter’ incident in this country now about once in every three weeks and nearly half of those incidents occur in malls, stores and other businesses. The ‘Target’ department store chain made headlines this summer when they asked their gun owning customers to leave guns at home while shopping saying firearms create an environment at odds with family friendly...

The Northeast, once the nation’s political engine that produced presidents, House speakers and Senate giants including the late Edward M. Kennedy, is losing clout in Washington as citizens flee the high-tax region, according to experts worried about the trend. The Census Bureau reports that population growth has shifted to the South and the result is that the 11 states that make up the Northeast are being bled dry of representation in Washington. Critics blame rising taxes in states such as Massachusetts and Connecticut for limiting population growth in the Northeast to just 15 percent from 1983 to 2013, while the...

Time and again, we hear from the Democrats that voter fraud is not an important issue. Despite their ardent insistence, we continue to see people getting arrested for voter fraud, usually from their own party! Today’s news continues that trend. Democratic Connecticut State Representative Christina Ayala has been arrested on 19 counts of voter fraud.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Thursday ripped U.S. Senate Democrats for blocking his bill that would revoke the U.S. citizenship of those who join the ISIS terrorist organization, noting that they are abandoning something Hillary Clinton supported when she was Secretary of State. The Democrats blocked Cruz’s bill on Thursday, a bill that would revoke citizenship from Americans who join ISIS. Cruz’s bill is very similar to one that then Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA)—who is now running in New Hampshire against Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)—and then Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) offered a couple of years ago.“As then-Secretary of State Hillary...

HARTFORD – A 16-member commission of educators, local and state officials and behavioral experts assembled by Connecticut Gov. Sandy Hook School SignMalloy “charged the panel with making recommendations to reduce the risk of future tragedies,” according to the New Haven Register. Facebook/TakenMovies Liam Neeson, legendary Irish actor and star of such films as Takenand Non-Stop, does not identify with the hardcore, gun-toting action heroes he so often portrays. "I am totally for gun control in the U.S.," Neeson said in an interview with The Independent. "The population of America is roughly 300 million and there are 300 million guns in this country, which is terrifying." Neeson criticized the National Rifle Association's response to the 2012 shooting in Newton, Connecticut, which the actor summarized as, "If that teacher had been armed..." "It's crazy," Neeson said. "I'll give Britain its dues, when they had the Dunblane...

NEW HAVEN — Former Gov. John G. Rowland, a political rising star who crashed a decade ago in a corruption scandal, fell again Friday when a jury in federal court found him guilty in a low-rent scheme to collect secret paychecks from rich Republican congressional candidates. After deliberating for seven hours over two days, the jury convicted the 57-year-old, three-term governor of conspiracy, two counts of falsifying records in order to obstruct an investigation, two counts of causing false reports to be filed with the Federal Election Commission and two counts of exceeding campaign contribution limits.

Sen. Ted Cruz tried to get the Senate to consider a measure Thursday providing that any American who joins the fight with terrorist groups such as the Islamic State would immediately renounce their U.S. citizenship, but a Democratic senator objected, saying more time is necessary to weigh the significant constitutional issues it raises. Ahead of the Senate’s scheduled consideration Thursday afternoon of a proposal to arm and train Syrian rebels, part of President Obama’s strategy to combat the terrorist group, the Texas Republican asked for unanimous consent to pass the Expatriate Terrorist Act he introduced earlier this month. The measure...

A new government report confirms what pro-life advocates have long feared: President Obama's health care reform law allows for taxpayer-funded abortions. In a report to Congress, the Government Accountability Office found 28 states with no laws restricting qualified health plans that limit abortion coverage. In Massachusetts, only two of the 111 state-approved plans comply with the historic Hyde Amendment, which prohibits abortion funding except in cases of rape or incest. Five states (Connecticut, Hawaii, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont) don't offer any qualified plans that follow Hyde's precedent, in place since 1977. That directly contradicts the president's 2010 executive...
