WASHINGTON – Even as the Senate overcame a Republican filibuster that sought to prevent a $33.9 billion extension of unemployment benefits from being “financed” with more debt, President Obama single-handedly reduced the unemployment rate of the three Americans who joined him at a press briefing Monday in the Rose Garden from 100 to zero percent by crowning them as his latest White House Czars ...

If changes aren't made to the ground rules, Alabama Attorney General Troy King said Monday, the state might file suit over Ken Feinberg's proposed oil spill claims process. "In its current form, Alabama would have a basis for litigation," King said in a phone interview. "I hope it doesn't come to that. The people of the Gulf Coast don't need lawsuits and arguments between the governments that are supposed to be protecting them." Ken Feinberg, the oil spill claims czar, said Monday afternoon that he is trying to incorporate suggestions from King and other states' attorneys general so that the...

NEW ORLEANS -- The federal administrator of a $20 billion Gulf oil spill compensation fund says the wages earned by people working on BP's cleanup will be deducted from their claims against the company. Kenneth Feinberg told The Associated Press on Sunday the fund is designed to compensate fishermen and others for their lost income. If BP PLC is already paying someone to help skim oil and perform other cleanup work, those wages will be subtracted from the amount they're eligible to claim from the fund.

...He plays golf with the president at Martha's Vineyard, attends the administration's child-health briefings, and quizzes senior White House staff about policy. "Do we have a toxicologist who specializes in colony collapse disorder?" Kass once asked in an e-mail to the Agriculture Department, according to the New York Times story. Add the fact that Kass isn't even a formally trained chef and you really start to wonder what's going on here...

In a comical move even for a czar-happy president who has rewarded dozens of cronies with distinguished titles, the White House has named the Obama’s personal Chicago cook as “Senior Policy Adviser for Healthy Food Initiatives.” It’s no joke, even though is sounds like a bad one. The Chicago chef’s rapid ascension, reported this week by a conservative Washington D.C. newspaper, has been kept under the radar for the last month. Sam Kass went from being a 20-something, Windy City gourmet cook—privately paid by the Obama’s to feed them—to big-time White House adviser in a matter of months. In between,...

In the financial overhaul bill that is on the cusp of becoming law, House Democrats have included a largely overlooked provision that would create diversity czars to promote racial and gender hiring in federal agencies -- a move that has sparked concerns about racial quotas, government waste and charges that Democrats are attempting to politicize the Federal Reserve. The bill would establish an Office of Minority and Women Inclusion at each federal financial services agency to "ensure equal employment opportunity and the racial, ethnic and gender diversity" of the work force and senior management.

Health Care: The president recess-appoints a fan of rationing and Britain's National Health Service to direct one-third of American health care. Why does the administration want his views hidden from scrutiny? 'The decision is not whether or not we will ration care — the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open." That's what Dr. Donald Berwick, President Obama's nominee to head the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, told a National Institutes of Health publication a year ago, when he was just president and CEO of the Institute for Health Care Improvement. Such views were to be...

WASHINGTON - Workers who lost income because of the BP oil spill can be compensated under a $20 billion victims' fund even if oil hasn't washed up near their business, says the official chosen to oversee distribution of the money. "Physical presence of oil should not and will not be the only requirement," said Kenneth Feinberg, the fund's administrator, on Fox News Sunday. In judging whether an applicant qualifies for compensation, Feinberg said he and his staff will determine "are you losing business this year because you can't take charter fishermen out to fish, you can't take a charter boat...

We have a disastrously inadequate petroleum reserve; there is a crisis. “We consume more than 20 percent of the world’s oil but have less than 2 percent of the world’s oil reserves,” or so President Obama recently proclaimed from the Oval Office. That’s terrible, and possibly even true, provided that only the oil present in the United States where drilling is permitted is considered. There’s lots of oil in them thar other hills, approximately fifty years worth. That may not be enough, and in any event those are all environmentally holy places rather than politically acceptable oily places.

As concerns mount about the presence of Asian carp near Lake Michigan, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin today urged President Obama to appoint a carp czar to oversee efforts to keep the invasive species out of the Great Lakes. "We need to have one person who coordinates the efforts of the federal, state and local agencies that are doing everything they can to keep the Asian carp out of Lake Michigan," Durbin said during a news conference at the Shedd Aquarium. "We believe it's absolutely essential."

NEW ORLEANS -- Is a strip club that caters to oil-rig workers entitled to a piece of the $20 billion fund for victims of the Gulf of Mexico disaster? How about a souvenir stand on a nearly empty beach? Or a far-off restaurant that normally serves Gulf seafood? The farther the massive spill's effects spread, the harder it will get for President Barack Obama's new compensation czar to decide who deserves to be paid. Fishermen, rig workers and others left jobless by the oil spill seem certain to get their slices of the pie, sooner or later. It's the people...

President Barack Obama, in his televised speech to the nation Tuesday, will announce the creation of an oil recovery “czar” to oversee progress in siphoning crude from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, his chief spokesman said. Speaking on ABC television’s “Good Morning America” program, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the position is envisioned as “somebody that will be in charge of a recovery plan, putting a recovery plan together...when we get past the cleanup and response phase of this disaster.”

Puffing out his chest in Tuesday’s Washington Post, Steven Rattner, former-head of President Obama’s auto task force and architect of GM’s and Chrysler’s restructurings, asks, rhetorically: “Isn’t it time to agree that the auto rescue has been a success?” Rattner’s declaration of “Mission Accomplished”—based on one calendar quarter of mediocre financial results—is a galling display of arrogance and deception, and betrays a disturbing cluelessness about the broader costs and consequences of the government’s heavy-handed intervention. Rattner’s verdict rests on the singular consideration that “a year after the government-sponsored bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler, both patients are alive and progressing well...

Dr. Donald Berwick of the Harvard Medical School does not like free enterprise, but he does like rationing. Two years ago, in England, he delivered a talk celebrating the 60th birthday of Great Britain's National Health Service, the bureaucracy that runs that nation's socialized medical system. He apparently entertained some fear that day that the Brits might turn back to free enterprise. So, in his address (as reprinted in the July 26, 2008, edition of the British Medical Journal), and as reported this week by Matt Cover of CNSNews.com, he offered British socialists some words of advice. "Please," he told...

www.LibertyJuice.com This particular article disgusted and infuriated me. Dr. John Holdren, Obama’s Science Czar, told those gathered at an AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) meeting that, “America can’t expect to be number one in everything indefinitely.” Then he went on to say that it wasn’t “purely bad that other countries were beginning to make gains on us.” This mindset comes straight out of Loserville and is an embarrassing representation of America’s unique qualities and principles that have consistently made us the most incredible nation in the world. We are historically a nation that knows no limits or...

The bulk of the president’s czars are exempt from oversight Obama’s Shadow Government By Alan Caruba Thursday, April 29, 2010 How many of these names do you recognize? Adolfo Carrion, Aneesh Chopra, Ear; Devamey, Kenneth Feinberg, Carol Browner, Ed Montgomery, Todd Stern, Cass Sunstein, Ron Bloom, and John Brennan. If none of them ring a bell, it is because they and others are all part of a shadow government of some thirty “czars”; advisers to President Obama who did not submit to the Senate confirmation process and are exempt from Congressional oversight. Article 2, Section 2, U.S. Constitution, an excerpt:...
