  • Flake kin beg for cash to aid in dead dog defense

Gilbert grifters grab for greenbacks At this point most Arizonans are aware of the disturbing saga* of the dogs who died agonizing heat-related suffocation deaths in a small windowless utility room, sans air conditioning at Green Acre kennel. Nearly two dozen family pets entrusted to the owner’s care suffered excruciating deaths last summer. Todd and MaLeisa Hughes, the kennel owners, were vacationing out of state when the deaths occurred. They left the boarding facility and pets in the care of their daughter and son-in-law Logan and Austin Flake. Austin is the son of Arizona U.S. Senator Jeff Flake. All four...

About an hour ago the wife and our dog Lucy were in bed. I was up reading FR when I thought I heard a noise outside. I get up from my chair and open the front door and the porch light is on, it has a motion sensor. I thought that was unusual when Lucy came barreling out from the back door( she has a pet door, comes and goes as she pleases) to the front door to the woods across the street barking like hell. In his weekly address at the Vatican late last month, Pope Francis issued a remarkable statement that’s sure to come as welcome news to anyone who’s ever lost a beloved pet. According to Francis, the promise of an afterlife applies not only to believers, but to all animals as well."The Holy Scriptures teach us that the realization of this wonderful plan covers all that is around us, and that came out of the thought and the heart of God," Pope Francis said, as quoted by Italian news site Resapubblica. The Pope then went on to say that “heaven is open to all...

A British-born U.S. photojournalist and a South African aid worker held hostage in Yemen by al Qaeda militants have been 'murdered' in a failed rescue attempt. American citizen Luke Somers had been held hostage since September 2013 in Yemen's capital Sana'a having moved to the country two years earlier. The 33-year-old was reportedly shot by his captors as Navy SEAL Team six, made up of around 40 men, carried out a dramatic rescue bid in the Wadi Abdan region of the southern Shabwa province late on Friday night. Service dogs are trained to do specific tasks. They help vets do things that they cannot due to a disability. They can be trained to help someone who has seizures by moving things out of the way or barking to warn their handler of an oncoming seizure. It is interesting to note that providing emotional support, protecting a handler, or being a companion does not qualify a dog to be a service animal. To qualify, they have to do things that are different from natural dog behavior.
