Talmika Bates, 26, claims she was traumatized by a German Shepherd named Marco after it went after her and chewed on her scalp during a shoplifting arrest on February 10, 2020, according to the lawsuit filed Tuesday. When Daisy the bulldog showed up at the doorsteps of a North Central Fire Protection District Station 58 in Fresno, California in late April, she was extremely dehydrated and skinny. The bulldog camped out at the back of the station for about a week, sleeping on the doormat that leads right into the fire station. Although suffering from poor health, the dog made sure to greet the firefighters as they left for their calls. Eventually, the firefighters realized they had to help their new friend find a home... but it became difficult to find the dog a permanent home with...

We’ve reached a barking point in American history. (Yeah, I’m sorry for that one.) A few years ago, for the first time ever, the number of dogs in this country surpassed the number of children under eighteen. According to Statista, there are 90 million dogs in America today, up from just 68 million in 2000. And a higher percentage of American households own dogs than ever before. By contrast, there are just over 73 million children. That still sounds like a lot, but as a percentage of the population, children have never been rarer. In 1960, for instance, over one-in-three...

The previously healthy 63-year-old died from multi-organ failure a few weeks after being licked. He was infected with capnocytophaga canimorsus - a bacteria founds in the saliva and gums of canines and cats - which can sometimes be transmitted to humans. The unnamed man was treated with antibiotics in hospital after experiencing three days of fevers and breathing difficulties. He also had petechiae (tiny purple, red or brown spots) on his face, and dysaesthesia - nerve damage in his right leg. His family and the doctors then decided to cease treatment and life support was turned off as the man...

A pair of Great Danes killed an Ohio woman who kept the rescued animals over her husband’s objections, authorities said. Mary Matthews, 49, was found dead Friday in her Waynesville home by her husband, Dale Mark Matthews, some two years after she rescued the aggressive dogs ... I never wanted Great Danes but she wanted to rescue them,” Matthews told the newspaper. “She loved animals so I let her get them. I probably should have put my foot down and said no, obviously.” Matthews said he was bitten by one of the massive dogs last month, leading him to worry...

President Donald Trump lauded the canine at Sunday’s press conference in which he offered vivid details of how the elite U.S. Army special operators took down one of the world’s most wanted terrorists. “Our ‘K-9,’ as they call it, a beautiful dog, a talented dog, was injured and brought back,”...

After a late night at a stock-car race, Carole and Verne King returned to their dog-friendly hotel in Kalispell, Mont., and made a devastating discovery. Their 7-year-old Border collie, Katie, was no longer in the room. She had apparently managed to unlatch the door, possibly spooked by a thunderstorm that had swept through the area. At the front desk, an attendant said she had seen an anxious dog bolt out the front door hours before. The Kings were stunned. This enthusiastic dog clearly thought he would make a much better selfie subject than his owners after photo bombing their pre-wedding photographs. Alfredo Garcia da Silva, 32, and his fiancé Joyce Sabino, 26, from Campo Grande, Brazil, wanted to get a few sweet snaps in with each other before their big day. Commissioning Nícolas Carrelo Cabral, 27, the soon-to-be married couple decided to bring their dog Thor to the shoot. But the excited pooch couldn't resist getting involved - sticking both his face and behind in front of the camera.

Everyone knows there’s a problem with Chubbs. Dirt is smeared across his face. His tongue is rolling out of his mouth. He’s surrounded by signs that say “NO EXCESSIVE BARKING.” But the 5-month-old golden retriever does not know how to read. At a dog park in one of Maryland’s wealthiest suburbs, he spends this sunny August morning rolling on his back. He opens his mouth, and then, he does it. He woofs. Twice. “CHUBBS!” four humans around him yell, trying to stop him from doing what dogs do — just not in Chevy Chase Village this summer. Here in this...
