County Clerks in Upstate New York are threatening to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if undocumented immigrants attempt to legally apply for driver’s licenses in their offices. “I’ll make this very clear: If someone was to come in [to my office] with improper documentation, I would consider that probable cause to notify legal authorities that there are individuals here who may have broken the law. This could mean ICE,” Allegany County Clerk Robert L. Christman, said. The Green Light bill, passed in June, allows New Yorkers regardless of immigration status, to acquire a driver’s license or a learners’ permit....

The Dixon Police Department said they were notified by a concerned citizen about the vehicle on Tuesday. She was also cited for failure to secure a passenger of the age of 8 and under the age of 16.
  • 'Wasteful and pointless': Watchdog lists 'biggest boondoggles' to ease highway gridlock

A public interest advocacy group has identified the country’s “most wasteful and pointless” transportation projects, which are costing taxpayers $25 billion. The U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) cites among “the biggest boondoggles” a $2.2 billion widening of Interstate 81 in Virginia, a $7 billion interstate project in Houston and a $802 million “Connecting Miami” redesign of city highways. According to PIRG, widening highways to reduce gridlock fails for several reasons. Multiple studies show that more road space over time leads to further congestion because of a phenomenon called “induced demand.” “We’re stuck in a car-centric rut in the United...

Today, Tennessee becomes the 19th state to make de facto criminals out of a significant percentage of its citizens by passing a law that makes it illegal for anyone to touch a cell phone while driving. The law, passed by assumedly well-meaning legislators as an attempt to cut down on deaths from “distracted driving,” nevertheless represents yet another governmental attempt to crush a fly with a sledgehammer, and it’s a trend that isn’t about to end anytime soon.Sadly, this merely represents the next step for do-gooder social engineers who think laws on the books can somehow fix all of society’s...

YouTube has banned people from posting videos of dangerous pranks, following a series of challenges inspired by the Netflix film Bird Box. These challenges involved performing tasks blindfolded - including driving a car, running and even a tattoo artist working on a client while driving. One US teenager crashed her vehicle after pulling her hat over her eyes and driving towards oncoming traffic in the name of the so-called 'Bird Box Challenge'. Youtube have already forbid content containing dangerous activities but have now revealed new policies on videos that put people in danger.

REVERE — Prosecutors say the 42-year-old Boston woman who allegedly struck five pedestrians with her SUV on Route 145 Sunday night, killing a 5-year-old girl and critically injuring a 2-month-old infant, may have been impaired from a combination of beer, sleep medication, and CBD oil. The 5-year-old girl has been identified as Adrianna Mejia-Rivera, a student at an undisclosed elementary school in Revere. Autumn Harris pleaded not guilty to charges of motor vehicle homicide and negligent operation of a motor vehicle in Chelsea District Court on Monday. Harris was held on $10,000 bail and ordered to remain drug- and alcohol-free...

Police in the Northern California town of Redwood City arrested a man who was traveling on Highway 101 early Friday morning while sleeping behind the wheel of his Tesla Model S. Officers first spotted the electric luxury sedan driving south at about 70 mph around 3:40 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel told Business Insider on Friday night. Montiel said the officers took action when it became clear that the driver, 45-year-old Alexander Samek, was sleeping. "The driver wasn't responding to lights and sirens," Montiel said. The officers believed the Tesla may have been operating on Autopilot, a semi-autonomous-driving...

Amazon is hiring its own fleet of full-time drivers to deliver packages to Prime customers. Amazon will manage these drivers directly, meaning the company will set their wages, provide them delivery vehicles, and schedule their routes. Amazon has previously relied on delivery services provided by UPS, FedEx, and the US Postal Service, as well as contractors employed through its Flex delivery program and third-party courier companies it calls delivery service partners. At a recent Amazon training for the new program, drivers were told the company "didn't want people peeing in bottles," a source told Business Insider. Amazon is launching a...

(CNN) - If you see Barbra Streisand driving on the streets of Los Angeles, you might want to get out of the way. "Late Late Show" host James Corden switched things up on Thursday night's episode of "Carpool Karaoke" by having the music legend be the one behind the wheel, while he sat in the passenger seat. Within minutes of getting into the car, Streisand told Corden that she recently had to retake her driving test in order to renew her driver's license. But the caveat is that she failed the test three times before finally receiving the green light...

While some men may brag about being better drivers, women are officially superior behind the wheel, a new study has found. Confused.com research analysing everything from insurance claims to court proceedings for speeding suggests that female drivers are less likely to make a claim and also less likely to commit an offence. And on average, men have paid £3,327 more for their car insurance over the past decade, the report says. While the gap has narrowed following an EU gender directive banning insurers from rating on a driver's sex in 2012, there is still a difference - with the current...

Only two Idaho drivers have been cited for driving too slowly in the fast lane since the state’s new “slowpoke” law took effect July 1. Three other drivers got warnings that they better go the speed limit in the left lane or scoot over. Those numbers, current as of July 27, are from the Idaho State Police, which patrols the state’s highways. Tickets for speeding during that time frame — numbering 2,495 — far surpass these five cases of impeding fast-lane traffic. Even so, the new law gives troopers another tool to keep roads safer, said bill sponsor Rep. Lance...
  • Steer clear of Omaha! Home of America's most dangerous drivers revealed - [tr]

Drivers in Omaha are the worst in the nation, while Orlando is home to America's safest motorists, according to a new study. Summer is the busiest and most dangerous time of year for driving, as road-trippers and people on family vacations take to the streets along with the usual commuters. More drivers overall amounts to more bad drivers on the roads, making it more dangerous for everyone. The new study by QuoteWizard.com analyzed 2017 statistics based road incidents, including accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs and citations for things such as running a red light or using a cell phone while driving.

A 10ft statue of a bear has been ordered to be removed from a roadside - after a scared woman driver blamed it for causing a crash. The wooden grizzly bear has guarded Britain's smallest town of Llanwrtyd Wells, population 850, for more than 15 years as a roadside landmark. But safety chiefs demanded it be taken away from the Mid-Wales town after a woman feared the wooden animal was real - and she careered off the road into a signpost.
  • Saudi Arabia's ban on women driving about to end

Saudi women are to be allowed to drive from midnight local time (21:00 GMT) after a ban comes to an end. The change was announced last September and Saudi Arabia issued the first licences to women earlier this month. It was the only country left in the world where women could not drive and families had to hire private chauffeurs for female relatives. However the move comes amid an intensified crackdown on activists who campaigned for the right to drive. At least eight women's rights activists are being detained and could face trial in a counter-terrorism court and long prison...

Is the foundation of our revolt against the elites – which the liberals and the Fredocons call “Trumpism” because they don’t want to face the fact that Normals are tired of their corruption and incompetence – merely trolling by a bunch of malcontents? True, we do enjoy messing with them. You look at the avatar of the movement, Donald Trump, and he’s the Trollmaster Level XII Emeritus. This guy lays down the smack, and a lot of Americans are delighted by his antics. But is that all this is? Is our movement simply about slamming the people we’re annoyed at and...

We spend a lot of time and words on what autonomous cars can do, but sometimes it’s a more interesting question to ask what they can’t do. The limitations of a technology are at least as important as its capabilities. That’s what this little bit of performance art tells me, anyway. You can see the nature of “Autonomous trap 001” right away. One of the first and most important things a self-driving system will learn or be taught is how to interpret the markings on the road. This is the edge of a lane, this means it’s for carpools...

Four Ohio teens face murder charges after allegedly throwing a sandbag from a highway overpass. Three of the boys charged are 14 years old, and the other is 13. They had already been charged with felonious assault, reports CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan. Around 10 p.m. last Tuesday, a woman was driving with her friend, Byrd, under an overpass when something came crashing through the passenger-side windshield. She pulled...
