All the President's votes? 14 October 2003 A quiet revolution is taking place in US politics. By the time it's over, the integrity of elections will be in the unchallenged, unscrutinised control of a few large - and pro-Republican - corporations. Andrew Gumbel wonders if democracy in America can surviveSomething very odd happened in the mid-term elections in Georgia last November. On the eve of the vote, opinion polls showed Roy Barnes, the incumbent Democratic governor, leading by between nine and 11 points. In a somewhat closer, keenly watched Senate race, polls indicated that Max Cleland, the popular Democrat...

Jim Robinson is taking his supporters for a huge ride. Even though he's using this ancient perl/CGI format(that has changed 3 times in 6 years), there's no way in hell it costs $260,000 a year to run FreeRepublic unless Robinson is paying himself and his family at least $225,000 a year. https://secure.freerepublic.com/donate/budget Monthly Expenses Bandwidth $2,700 Technical Services 4,000 Administrative 7,500 Legal Expenses 3,000 Estimated Bank Fees, Insurance, Office Expenses, Maintenance and Repairs, Supplies, Travel, misc. 2,200 $2700 a month for bandwidth? What, he has his own dedicated T1/T3 lines? $48,000 a year for "Technical Services?" You could hire three...

So you think you accomplished something by stealing another election and putting that dummy goon "Ahhnuld" in as Governor. Well he's an idiot just like that other installed resident George (imbecile) W. Bush. The reason California's economy is so bad is the fault of the white house resident and his moronic economic policies. Also, his Enron buddies screwed California with the energy contracts. So after Ahhnie screws California royally and the nation sees what corrupt fools W and the repuggies are, the Democrats will take control of the nation again for 40 years. Hasta La Vista baybee

WHY DON'T WE HAVE ANSWERS TO THESE 9/11 QUESTIONS?By WILLIAM BUNCH bunchw@phillynews.com Firefighter looks out window at Ground Zero. Photo, Jim MacMillan, Daily News NO EVENT IN recent history has been written about, talked about, or watched and rewatched as much as the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 - two years ago today. Not only was it the deadliest terrorist strike inside America, but the hijackings and attacks on New York City's World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington were also a seminal event for an information-soaked media age of Internet access and 24- hour news.So,...

Stanley Hilton now figures his case is stronger because of a coalition of attorneys, victims' families and bipartisan legislators who gathered in Washington on Monday to condemn the government's lack of action in preventing the Sept. 11 attacks. Hilton is the San Francisco attorney who filed a $7 billion lawsuit in U.S. District Court on June 3 against President Bush and other government officials for "allowing" the terrorist attacks to occur. Among Hilton's allegations: Bush conspired to create the Sept. 11 attacks for his own political gain and has been using Osama bin Laden as a scapegoat. Hilton said he...

<p>We had a visit from another disruptor, who has decided to grace us with postings of a rather vulgar image (to put it mildly).</p>
<p>We have received a few mails from people asking if we could delete the picture from their "My Comments" page. At the moment, we cannot. In the interim, what you can do if one is in your "My Comments" page is to set the "My Comments" page to "brief" rather than "full". This will hide the content of the posts, thereby hiding the graphic. To switch the setting, just click on the word "Brief" near the top right of your "My Comments" page, or click here.</p>

<p>By LEO SHANE III NH Columbus Bureau ------------------------------------------------------------------------ COLUMBUS -- Democratic leaders want a major Republican fund-raiser blocked from becoming the state's new voting machines supplier, saying his presence puts in doubt the fairness of all Ohio elections.</p>

<p>July 31, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - Native New Yorker and Secretary of State Colin Powell spoke yesterday with his Bronx tongue, calling Saddam Hussein "a piece of trash waiting to be collected."</p>

According to contemporary political lore, the Bush clan exalts loyalty above every other virtue. Other politicians envy that inviolable code, whose power is reflected in the absence of leaks from the White House, in the lockstep obedience of politicians in Congress and around the country, and in the enormous cash donations from hundreds of wealthy "friends." This is how dynasties are built to endure. But at the highest level, in the inner councils, such feudal allegiances often require awful sacrifice and compromise. For those who now work for George W. Bush, loyalty means surrendering professional integrity and accepting public humiliation....

The plain facts are shocking. Nine thousand families are currently homeless in New York City, the highest number on record. Indeed, homelessness is rising across the country as jobs vanish, incomes shrink and families are forced onto the streets. Meanwhile, George W. Bush is spending the astounding sum of $4 billion a month in taxpayers’ money to keep 146,000 U.S. troops in Iraq—troops who are being murdered on a daily basis, with over 70 dead American soldiers since the war ended on May 1 and no foreseeable improvement. This confusion of priorities is an embarrassment to this country and Mr....

Did anyone happen to hear Mitch Albom's show today and his comments regarding Michael Savage? I do not like Mitch Albom's show but it is the only thing really on during my evening commute from work. He made references to Michael Savage, all very negative and making fun of him after Mitch Albom said he doesn't normally talk about fellow radio talk show hosts. If anyone can find a transcript or audio from Mitch Alboms show today, I would very much appreciate it. I think anyone who wants to let Mitch Albom know about what really hapend with Michael Savage.

Bob Foster, the rural Yolo County man who has taken to terrorizing TV and radio shows with prank phone calls, says his hobby "is all about getting a reaction." But this may be more than he bargained for. On Saturday, Foster called Michael Savage's live MSNBC show to mention a favorite radio duo, Don and Mike. Savage was apparently not amused and made a series of homophobic comments to Foster on the air. On Monday, news broke that the controversial broadcast personality had been fired by MSNBC. And it wasn't long before Foster began to feel the wrath of Savage...

I am happy to announce the WMD’s have been located. For months, we have been told WMD’s are out there. Because of WMD’s, our troops are still suffering casualties daily in Iraq. According to George Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, and Condeleeza Rice, WMD’s pose a great threat to the world. Imagine how surprising it is to learn the WMD’s have been prolifterating right here in the good old U.S. of A. Such weapons include psychological, political, and propagandizing devices. Those who launch the attacks know thousands could become more hopeless and apathetic, but their fundamental motive is...

I think there are many Freepers who are tired of this constant bashing of the Supreme Court for Lawrence v. Texas. I think they did a great job and stuck a knife in the heart of big government. Individual liberty is at the heart of what conservatism is all about - the individual having primacy over the state. It disturbs me that there are so many who wanted to see the state prevail in its desire to regulate private, individual freedoms. I say, good job, to a consistent, conservative SC! You did exactly what you're supposed to be doing.

http://www.moodynews.com/news/Articles/01.03.20SCIE.asp SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE AGAINST SODOMY The Supreme Court, which has agreed to hear a case on sodomy, must take a close look at new scientific evidence that shows why anal intercourse kills people. The Court has agreed to revisit the 1986 ruling that the right to privacy does not protect sexual relations between homosexuals practicing sodomy. The case they are considering is Texas' anti-sodomy law which was used against two Houston men caught having sex during a police raid of one of their apartments following a false report that an armed man was "going crazy." This case comes at a...

The University of Haifa and the Italian Trento Center for Scientific and Technological Research (IRST) signed a $1.5 million three-year agreement on Thursday to cooperate on software and artificial intelligence research. The deal ensures that a concrete financial agreement will exist between the institutions which established an informal relationship two years ago, said Oliviero Stock, former director of IRST and current senior fellow. According to the details of the agreement, IRST will supply $1m. or two-thirds of the finances for the research and the University of Haifa will provide the remaining $500,000. Stock will coordinate details of the program along...

I was flipping around the radio dial one afternoon when I heard a familiar voice. The last time I heard that voice was to the accompaniment of a leering grin and towels snapping in a locker room. "Gotcha!" the voice had been saying. Snap! "Gotcha good, didn't I, queer?" Snap! "That'll teach you to mess with Mike." Mike was the terror of my high school locker room. Snapping towels at young boys' private parts. Getting freshmen in a headlock and rubbing their faces in his armpits. Calling all the boys "queers!" and "wimps!" He was a class act then. Now...
