OAKLAND -- A crowd of as many as 100 protesters marched through downtown Friday, breaking car windows and a window at Barack Obama's local campaign office. Officer Johnna Watson, a spokeswoman for the Oakland police, confirmed in an email that a window of Obama's campaign office at 16th Street and Telegraph Avenue was smashed. Police also confirmed that several car windows were broken. The protesters began organizing about 9 p.m. and marched up Broadway. Police also said they were following the protesters during the march.

Vandals at a Chick-Fil-A in Torrance left a message on the restaurant Friday during a week of protests in response to the company president's comments regarding same-sex marriage. "Tastes Like Hate" and a cow with a paint brush appeared on the Torrance restaurant early Friday as same-sex marriage activists planned a "National Same-Sex Kiss Day" at Chick-fil-A locations nationwide. The kiss-in comes two days after a "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," which resulted in what the Georgia-based chain called a "record-setting" day. [photo at link] On a day that some gay-rights activists are planning a "National Same-Sex Kiss Day," a Chick-fil-A in Torrance was vandalized overnight with hateful graffiti. Chick-fil-A employees were greeted Fridays morning with the words "Tastes like hate" scrawled in large black lettering mimicking the chain's advertising across the back wall of the restaurant at 182nd Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance. With media helicopters hovering overhead and police officers on the scene, one employee said, "I'm just trying to sort everything out."

MARTINSBURG - Police and fire crews closed down the Chick-fil-A on Foxcroft Avenue in Martinsburg for nearly three hours following a bomb threat that was called in just before 1 p.m. today. The caller mentioned that a "device" had been placed within the restaurant. The building was evacuated, but was deemed safe at about 3:45 p.m. after no bomb or any other type of device was discovered. Martinsburg City Police and the Martinsburg Fire Department personnel investigated the scene, along with Berkeley County Sheriff Kenny Lemaster. A federal court in Washington, DC, held today that political appointees appointed by President Obama did interfere with the Department of Justice’s prosecution of the New Black Panther Party. The ruling came as part of a motion by the conservative legal watch dog group Judicial Watch, who had sued the DOJ in federal court to enforce a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents pertaining to the the New Black Panthers case. Judicial Watch had secured many previously unavailable documents through their suit against DOJ and were now suing for attorneys’ fees.
