As the Republican presidential candidates gather this weekend in New Hampshire, they’re all chasing a midwestern governor. The latest survey of New Hampshire Republicans, by liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling, finds Wisconsin’s Scott Walker with a strong lead at 24 percent, followed by a rising Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Establishment favorite Jeb Bush is currently mired in fourth place, with 10 percent support, a drop from the last PPP poll of the first-in-the-nation primary state. Other polls show the race remains tight. The RealClearPolitics average has Walker at 19 percent, followed by Bush at 15 percent and Sen. Rand Paul at...

Syracuse University alumni are new additions to the lengthening list of people who can stop contributing to their alma maters. The university has succumbed — after, one suspects, not much agonizing — to the temptation to indulge in progressive gestures. It will divest all fossil fuel stocks from its endowment. It thereby trumps Stanford, whose halfhearted exercise in right-mindedness has been to divest only coal stocks. Evidently carbon from coal is more morally disquieting than carbon from petroleum. The effect of these decisions on the consumption of fossil fuels will be nil; the effect on the growth of institutions’ endowments...

The following contrasting videos should be enough to chill the bones of every Democrat sensibly worried about how good a candidate Hillary Clinton will be. Dan Calabrese, of Herman Cain’s CainTV.com website brings us the two videos of the same TMZ reporter walking up to both candidates at an airport as they arrive. First, here is Marco Rubio: All smiles and affability, Sure, the reporter is not hostile, but anyone could get annoyed at questions about a spouse's past. Instead, Rubio laughs, makes a joke at his own expense, and comes across as a totally likable guy. Hillary, not so...

A moat around the White House was actually under consideration but was quickly ruled out. You may recall in November 2014, a few months after a man jumped the White House fence, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) suggested to then-acting Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy that one solution to secure the grounds was a barricade of water. But when a federal agency voted unanimously Wednesday morning on a temporary fence plan, a moat wasn’t an option. The agency approved adding steel spikes to the existing fence to fend off jumpers.

Oxytocin is that feel good hormone that bonds a child to his or her mother. But never mind that. Researchers in Hawaii are recruiting girls as young as 14 to participate in second trimester abortions, where the preborn baby is 18-24 weeks gestation, in order to test whether or not oxytocin can reduce bleeding in mothers during and after abortion. The study is being conducted by the University of Hawaii and the University of Washington in Seattle – both public universities, which leads to the obvious question: is the government funding this study? A second trimester abortion is at least...

The Supreme Court issued an order today preventing the Obama administration from forcing religious groups in Pennsylvania to obey the HHS mandate that requires them to pay for abortion-causing drugs for their employees. This is the fifth time the Supreme Court has rebuked the Obama administration and prevented it from making such a mandate. In an order issued last night, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito prevented the federal government from enforcing its contraceptive mandate against a range of Pennsylvania-based religious organizations including Catholic Charities and other Catholic schools and social service organizations connected with the Diocese of Erie and the...

As Turkey’s leaders fume over Pope Francis’ use of the term “genocide” to describe mass killings of Armenian Christians a century ago, the country’s top religious figure invoked the crusades and said the furor would accelerate a controversial scheme to turn Istanbul’s most famous historical church into a mosque.“The statement that the Catholic world’s spiritual leader delivered three days ago, saying Armenians had been subjected to a genocide, is extremely spectacular,” Mefail Hizli, the mufti of Ankara, said in a written statement, Hurriyet daily reported.Hizli said the pontiff’s comment “reflected a modern color of the crusader wars launched in these...

Nigel Farage has been accused of "insulting" the audience of the final election debate by saying they had failed to understand the issues and were too left wing. During heated debate over the shortage of affordable housing in the UK, the UKIP leader said that "even by the standards of the BBC", the audience was too far left. He said: "There is a total lack of comprehension amongst this panel and the audience, which is a remarkable audience even by the left-wing standards of the BBC." The UKIP leader was jeered as he was told by Ed Miliband that it...

Former President George W. Bush is about to have another grandchild to boss him around. Jenna Bush Hager is expecting her second daughter with husband Henry Hager, she announced Monday on the “Today” show. The baby girl, due in August, will join almost 2-year-old sister, Mila. Bush Hager, 33, revealed that her father already takes orders from his first granddaughter, saying of the 43rd president, “He goes by ‘Jefe,’ which means ‘boss’ in Spanish.” “But really what happens is that Mila just bosses Jefe around. I mean, she’s bossy. She’s like, ‘Jefe, sit down. Jefe, tea. Jefe, coffee.’ ” Asked...

MATTHEW BOYLE15 Apr 2015Washington, DC254 What Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus calls former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s “fake and phony” populism apparently knows no bounds. In Iowa this week — in her first event as a presidential candidate — Clinton hammered CEOs. “There’s something wrong when CEOs make 300 times more than the typical worker. There’s something wrong when American workers keep getting more productive, as they have, and as I just saw a few minutes ago is very possible because of education and skills training, but that productivity is not matched in...

When it comes to foreign policy, the 2016 Republican presidential race is often presented as a contrast between Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and everybody else. As the narrative goes, Paul has a record of advocating for less intervention in foreign affairs, while the rest of the field has endorsed a more muscular posture. But this is an oversimplification. Though the differences Paul has with the rest of the party deserve attention, a far more interesting — and important — debate is the one likely to emerge between Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas. On the surface,...

The San Francisco Giants fan beaten outside Dodger Stadium on Thursday threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the home opener for the San Jose Giants, a team where he used to be a paramedic before he was left brain damaged in the attack four years ago. "It's a comeback story," said Dan Orum, president and CEO of the San Jose Giants, who faced off against the Bakersfield Blaze on Thursday. "Just to see what he's come through, and to be able to give him something back like this — it's just the kind of thing that resonates with everybody."...

In a car park outside a block of flats in Moscow, a dozen Russian teenagers in camouflage are practising army drills. A young lieutenant barks out orders. They form a wobbly line and march up and down on the spot. Inside another group of kids are learning how to handle weapons - firing blanks down an empty hall way to improve their aim. This after-school club is ostensibly part of a drugs prevention programme: a programme of evening activities with a patriotic military slant, aimed at keeping local kids away from drinking and shooting up. But for the club's organiser,...

ESPN suspended reporter Britt McHenry for one week, hours after a video surfaced of the reporter dressing down a parking lot attendant in brutally ugly fashion. “I’m in the news, sweetheart, I will f—–g sue this place,” McHenry, a Washington-based reporter, says as the video opens. McHenry vented about getting her car towed in a since-deleted tweet (as caught and saved by ARL Now) on April 6, and that was the cause of her frustration. (snip) The video, which appeared on LiveLeak, shows McHenry relentlessly mocking the clerk in a nasty attack, bouncing from jabs at her intelligence to insults...

Liberals haven’t been able to ban all-purpose sporting rifles (or “assault rifles” as authoritarians call them), so they went after AR-15 ammo. But they encountered enough resistance that they had to back down for now. In the meantime, they are trying another tack: buying up the ammo with our money: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intends to solicit offers to Request for Proposal (RFP) HSBP1015R0025 for .223 Remington (.223 Rem) Caliber Training Ammunition for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) locations nationwide, including those in the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, the Northern Marianna Islands, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin...
