<p>PASSAIC, New Jersey (Reuters) -- Believers are flocking to a rundown street in New Jersey to see a tree stump they say has the form of the Virgin Mary and is a divine sign of hope for the impoverished neighborhood.</p>

<p>After weeks of pressure to drop out of the recall race, state Sen. Tom McClintock is about to feel the pinch in an unlikely place: a gathering of faithful Republicans who agree with him about issues and revere him as one of the party's truest members.</p>

<p>As state Republicans head into their weekend convention in Los Angeles, pressure continues to build on the party to pick one candidate in the Oct. 7 recall election, party leaders and activists said Wednesday.</p> <p>Foremost in their minds is the compelling electoral arithmetic laid out in a Field Poll released this week. Actor-turned-candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger trails Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante in the race to replace Gov. Gray Davis if he's recalled. But without Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Northridge, in the race, Schwarzenegger and Bustamante are in a dead heat.</p>

<p>BELLS, Texas — At least 25,000 young Christians sprawled out over much of a 400-acre ranch here during the weekend to pray, listen to spiritual guidance and share their religious beliefs.</p> <p>One area man said the convergence of OneDay03 on this small town 70 miles northeast of Dallas seemed "sorta like Woodstock, without the drugs, sex and deviant element."</p>
