Two paintings previously thought to be fake Rembrandts were actual works by the Dutch master, Copenhagen's National Gallery said yesterday. International art experts have re-evaluated 10 canvases that bear Rembrandt's signature but were kept in storage for years because they were thought to be copies by his students. The five experts concluded that two of the paintings were by Rembrandt, said the director of the museum, Allis Helleland.

Two oil paintings purported to have been the work of Rembrandt have been shown to be fakes, the director of the museum where they are kept has said. The works were donated to the municipal museum in Faro, southern Portugal, in 1944 and were displayed for 25 years despite doubts over their authenticity. Tests have now shown the 17th Century Dutch master could not have painted them, Dalia Paulo told AFP news agency. This was because they used pigments not available until the 19th Century. Anniversary plans The paintings, one a supposed self-portrait of Rembrandt and the other said to...

A report by Mark Russinovich has raised serious concerns about the seedier side of anti-spyware. He investigated a number of programs that claimed to be spyware removal tools, and found that some of them not only do a poor job of detecting spyware, but may in fact be hazards themselves. Spyware has become big business in recent years, bringing in as much as US$1.6 billion in 2004. As spyware proliferates, the market for anti-spyware also grows, and many products such as Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy have arisen to combat this threat. However, it appears that some programs are...

SCIgen - An Automatic CS Paper Generator About Generate Update Examples Code Donations Related People About SCIgen is a program that generates random Computer Science research papers, including graphs, figures, and citations. It uses a hand-written context-free grammar to form all elements of the papers. Our aim here is to maximize amusement, rather than coherence. One useful purpose for such a program is to auto-generate submissions to conferences that you suspect might have very low submission standards. A prime example, which you may recognize from spam in your inbox, is SCI/IIIS and its dozens of co-located conferences (check out the...

One more thing about the arrogant Rather and the ongoing spin that "it was all just an innocent mistake". This two-man SeeBS "investigation" of Documentgate or Memogate is most likely going to try to inform America that it was merely a "mistake", an "oversight", Rather and Mapes "didn't do their homework". I don't believe it for a second (they were working on the story for years). All the talking heads and old time-reporters (Bernard Kalb, etc.) have been dragged out and have telling us for weeks what a great, dedicated, truly involved hands-on editor Rather was, and that he never...

I stood up against Hollywood before Bush went into Iraq and to this day I believe thay are responsible for buying Saddam more time!!! Didn't notice this before, Janeane Garofolo's proposed ABC sitcom was dropped. In this article she blames me and makes a few outrageous statements in the process. Janeane Garofolo:"It was also helped along by this nut woman named Lori Bardsley, who has a group called Citizens Against Celebrity Pundits, who is a born again Christian, Bush fanatic, who believes it is her divine calling to support President Bush and also make sure that actors who disagree with...

How Biased is CBS and the Mainstream Press? Written by JB Williams ©2004-09-23 CBS has committed five years of effort and resources by senior producer (Mary Mapes) and her staff, to digging through 30 year old service records of George W. Bush in search of any evidence that would help them remove him from the oval office. When CBS failed to unearth any damning evidence concerning Bush’s Guard service after five years of in depth research, they became party to disseminating forged evidence needed to pursue their agenda. CBS claims that it was a BIG story worthy of pursuit, having...

In case it's has escaped your attention, Dan Rather and the MSM, at least based on my review of it, has marched on. The forged documents have become yesterday's news. What sould have been a defining moment in this year's presidential election is being ignored by the MSM, and by default, the general population. We know, beyond a reasonable doubt, that CBS news used forged documents in its politically driven attempt to discredit President Bush's Air National Guard service. And we know that, to their credit, bloggers not only identified those documents as forgeries, but exposed them as forgeries. Initially...

WASHINGTON - Documents unearthed by CBS News that raise doubts about whether President Bush fulfilled his obligations to the Texas Air National Guard include several features suggesting that they were generated by a computer or word processor rather than a Vietnam War-era typewriter, experts said Thursday. Experts consulted by a range of news organizations pointed to typographical and formatting questions about four documents as they considered the possibility that they were forged. The widow of the National Guard officer whose signature is on the bottom of the documents also disputed their authenticity. The documents, which were aired Wednesday night on...

Shocking photographs splashed across the front page of a widely circulated anti-war daily in Britain showing coalition forces abusing Iraqi prisoners may be fakes, the BBC is reporting. BBC defense correspondent Paul Adams revealed Sunday that sources close to The Queen's Lancashire Regiment - which allegedly perpetrated the abuse - are suspicious of some details in the photographs, which were published by the Daily Mirror under the headline "VILE." One picture showed a British soldier urinating on an Iraqi prisoner while holding him at gunpoint. But according to the BBC, the photos may have been taken outside Iraq, since the...
