Investigators are searching for dozens of teens reportedly involved in mob assaults on two consecutive nights in a Southeast Portland park. The Portland Police Bureau reports that a little after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, responding officers found several groups of teens roaming the park. As they were telling the teens to clear out, a witness directed them to a 14-year-old boy who had sustained facial injuries in an alleged attack. As WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya reports, around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man was beaten up on the CTA Red Line near the State-Lake stop Saturday by a group of about six teenagers. The teens had just stolen the man’s 24-year-old wife’s iPhone 4S. She had dropped the phone, and a teen had picked it up and taken it for himself. Last week THE FACTOR reported on a bias assault in Norfolk that left two newspaper reporters injured. Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on April 14th, 26 year-old Marjon Rostami and 31-year-old David Forster were coming home from the theater when someone threw a rock at their vehicle. Police are looking for 12 female suspects wanted for allegedly taunting two teenage girls on a subway before hauling them off by their hair at a Bronx station and stealing one of their phones. Police say two 16-year-old girls were riding a southbound 4 train March 31 when another group of girls approached them. The dozen suspects began to taunt the victims, cops say. There’s outrage in Norfolk, Va., today after a white couple was attacked by dozens of black teenagers, and the local newspaper did not report on the incident for two weeks, despite the victims being reporters for the paper. Even today, the Virginian-Pilot did not cover the crime as news, but rather as an opinion piece by columnist Michelle Washington.

MOBILE, Alabama -- Mobile police need your help to catch a mob that beat Matthew Owens so badly that he's in critical condition. According to police, Owens fussed at some kids playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive about 8:30 Saturday night. Police are investigating the “racially motivated” beating of a 27-year-old man who was walking home from midtown bars early Saturday when he said he was jumped by five to eight men who shouted “Trayvon” before the attack. A man charged with a hate crime in Oak Park this week told police he was so upset about the Trayvon Martin case that he beat up a man because he was white, authorities said. Alton L. Hayes III, of Oak Park, and a 15-year-old Chicagoan — both black — walked up behind the 19-year-old victim and pinned his arms to his side early Tuesday, police said. A Forestville teenager pleaded guilty Tuesday to fatally stabbing a 92-year-old neighbor who had acted like a grandmother to him and then making off with her credit card and cash last summer, authorities said. William Fitts, 16, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree burglary and theft in the killing in August of Thelma Steele, authorities said. Prosecutors said that Fitts stabbed Steele several times with a pocketknife after the two argued about family issues and that he then left her for dead on the couch in her home.
