Florida has been flirting with licensed open carry for several legislative sessions. Some of the flirting has become rather provocative, to the point of teasing. Last legislative session, open carry passed the house with large margins, but was blocked in the Senate by Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, a "moderate" Republican committee chair from Miami. Portilla lost his seat in the 2016 election. Some have suggested the Republican leadership was using Portilla to accomplish what they wanted. A joint terrorism task force is investigating whether a 21-year-old man has connections to terrorism after he was arrested at the New Port Richey, Florida home he shares with his parents. Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said on Twitter Wednesday it would be foolish for him to say the case is "definitely not connected to terrorism." Paramedics were called to the home Wednesday morning after Sherif Elganainy's father became unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital. Greg Steube was recently elected to the Florida Senate from the Florida House. Donald Trump and his wife Melania are spending the Thanksgiving holiday at the business mogul's Mar-a-Lago resort.  Trump bought the estate for $10million in 1985 for his then wife Ivana. A person with a concealed carry permit shot a man who was attacking a police officer in Florida. The person who was blocking open carry in Florida was Senator Diaz de la Portilla (R) of Miami Dade.  Senator Portilla refused to let the open carry bill out of committee in 2015.  Then he repeated the performance in 2016. Political statistician Nate Silver officially projected that Republican nominee Donald Trump will win the highly influential swing state of Florida, according to an analysis published Sunday. Trump has a 52 percent chance of winning Florida, compared to only a 48 percent chance for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the polls-only forecast published on 538. Trump made incredible progress in the state, coming up from a 22 percent chance as of Oct. 15. Clinton has fallen from a 78 percent chance of winning the state since Oct. 15.

More than 3.7 million people have voted in the 2016 election statewide. That's approximately 29 percent of Floridians that are eligible to vote. So far, almost 2 million voters in the state have returned mail ballots. Another 1.7 million Floridians have cast ballots at early voting sites across the state. Sumter County in western Central Florida leads the state in turnout. 29,000 voters have already cast ballots where turnout has surpassed 50 percent. More than half of those voting are registered with the Republican Party.
